Nadine Dyer (00:01) Beautiful sisters, welcome back. We are so excited to be here. I am on with Ms. Zanna Foley. For those of you who caught the last episode, we were talking about fruitfulness and fruit was kind of the theme and Zanna shared her story so beautifully. For those of you who were not on, Zanna is the owner of Sweat Houz in both Carmel, Indiana and Broad Ripple Indiana. If you don't know what that is, check it out. We'll include the link in the links below or on the side or on top or I don't know. But Zanna, welcome back. Excited for episode two where we really get to talk about fruit. Zanna Foley (00:34) Thank you! Yes, I'm excited to be here. Nadine Dyer (00:41) And you know, your story last time was lovely. And I love how this picture came to mind for me of the garden and the weeds and the healing and the pruning and how you really spoke so beautifully into that. I could relate to it for my life. But today we're here to talk about fruit, producing fruit and how you know when you're producing fruit. What does that even mean? And what is the difference between being fruitful and being productive? And I don't know, all these things are coming up for me. So I just want to like toss it over to you and go Fruit! Go! Zanna go! Zanna Foley (01:14) Yes, yes. Well, I think for me, this was really just about identifying productiveness in my life, meaning things that actions that we were taking, things that were filling our schedule that were producing good fruit and then eliminating those, that productivity that was just noise or chaos. Nadine Dyer (01:42) Hmm Zanna Foley (01:44) And again, it was just this idea that we really needed to streamline everything and we just have no more room for things that aren't producing good fruit because we're adding these new businesses to our already existing big busy schedule and jobs. We already have two jobs. Now we're opening up two more businesses and probably more after that. it's like we just really had to streamline and get super serious about what actions activities and things were producing fruit and if it wasn't it just needed to go. So for me it was mostly the definition of fruit was productivity but not in the sense of being busy but what it's actually bringing us. And sometimes the most productive thing that we can do is rest. You know so it really does it really does require such an intentional spirit behind it of like Is this fruitful? Because I don't know about you, but sometimes when I take a 20 minute nap or even an hour nap if I need it, that's like so fruitful. But in the world's definition of fruitful or productive, I should say, maybe it wouldn't be. But if I take a 20 minute nap, I can see a lot of fruit from that because I'm much more productive in my tasks for the rest of the day, much more patient with my kids. It's really just putting a spin on what really is producing good fruit and what's not. And that takes like an intentional, a really intentional space in your life. Nadine Dyer (03:25) And what I'm hearing you say is the question, is what I'm doing producing good fruit? Zanna Foley (03:31) Yeah, and it really takes wisdom even to get to that answer because I'm in sales prior to Sweat Houz I was in sales. And the business that I'm in the fruit comes like 90 days later so I could spend several hours At a networking event or something and I couldn't just get in my car after that and be like was this fruitful because I wouldn't like make a sale at that event necessarily, right? It really required wisdom and a relationship with God to be like, God, was this fruitful in your eyes? And sometimes it's not even about why you went, right? I might go to a networking event and not have any fruit come to it for my work, the reason that I went, but there was a fruitful conversation because I was able to pour into somebody else, encourage somebody else. You know, there's fruit in so many different ways. So sometimes that's why I think it takes wisdom and a relationship with God to really discover what is fruitful because fruit doesn't always look the same. Nadine Dyer (04:39) Yeah, and I hear that it takes I'm hearing you say it takes wisdom, but it also takes seeking God's way and not the way. And what I love about this is there's a there's a ton of that the Bible has to say about fruit, but there's a verse that talks about what the fruit of the spirit are. I think there's nine of them, nine or 11. I always forget my my 11 year old can sing it. He knows all of them. Zanna Foley (04:47) Yes. Yes. Nadine Dyer (05:08) And I think we talked about that. Do you have that first handy? Zanna Foley (05:11) Yes, it is Galatians 5 22 through 23. But the fruit, but the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. There is no law against these things. Nadine Dyer (05:20) Okay. So beautiful. And you know, there's another verse and I don't know where it is in the Bible. I'm sure we could Google it quickly if we needed to, but I don't think it's necessary. That says, you will know them by their fruit. And you know, it's like, Zanna Foley (05:49) Yes. Nadine Dyer (05:54) people who have love and joy and peace and patience and kindness and goodness and self-control and faithfulness, like, that is fruit. That is the fruit of the spirit versus... Yeah. Versus chaos and stress and anxiety and, you know, whatever. Anger, anguish, depression, that is not the fruit of the spirit. Zanna Foley (06:04) And you know it. When you're in their presence, you know it. So good. Nadine Dyer (06:21) Yeah, it's so good. It's just a good check, right? It's like, because we can get so distracted. We can just be so productive and moving on and doing this. And then it's like, oh my gosh, I'm so stressed out. Wait a minute. That's not even a fruit of the spirit. Hold on. Zanna Foley (06:32) Yeah. Well, I went through, I went through each of these fruits and one of the things that struck me so patience is actually one of the fruits of the spirits. By the way, we all, I know, right? If we are, if we're walking with God's spirit, we have the fruit because he gave us the fruit of the spirit. So we have patience. Nadine Dyer (06:48) It's my least favorite one. Zanna Foley (07:01) We have self-control. I mean, I come from a fitness background, a health background. I talk to people all the time. They're like, I have no self-discipline. That's what self-control is, right? No, you do. You have the fruit of the spirit. It's whether or not we're exercising it or maybe we're, God's fine tuning it, right? Because we're always gonna be working on something, but patience can be, patience with my kids, but it can also be this, like long suffering or this patience with, you know, God. I've been praying this prayer for 14 years, for eight years, for, you know, and it's this patience and this trust that like he's working it out. And Romans 5, 1 through 5 says that tribulation produces perseverance, which produces character and character produces hope. Nadine Dyer (07:47) and Zanna Foley (07:59) And so it's interesting that some of this fruit, if not all of this fruit, it comes through tribulation. It comes through trials. We have the fruit, but we don't always have to exercise patience when our kids are just acting right. We don't have to exercise patience with God when all of our prayers are coming to fruition at that moment, right? So we have the fruit, but we only really have to exercise the fruit during trials, during tribulations. And so it's like, it makes sense when you look at it like this, why we have to go through things in order for our fruit to really flourish. Otherwise it's just there, it's easy. Nadine Dyer (08:43) Yeah. Yeah, that's Wow, that's such a good point. I know one of my, you know, patience where I got to exercise patience is I prayed forever for a baby, 10 years, literally 10 years. And then, you know, in my mid 40s, there's a baby and I'm like, wait a minute, what are you talking about, God? But like prayer years upon years upon years, right? It's just so crazy. And that is, that is true. You know, what also is coming up for me, Zanna, that I'm really hearing you say is you need to be clear on like, what are you trying, like what you were saying earlier is what I'm doing producing good fruit, but what is the objective? Like, what are you working towards, right? And so I think there's this clarity piece of like, what fruit am I planting? Am I planting a lemon tree? I don't even know. Do lemons grow on trees? I don't know. Am I planting an apple tree? Like, there's this like, what fruit am I looking to produce? And then the other part that keeps coming up for me is that it takes time to produce fruit. It's not like I plant it and it blooms. It's like, no, there's work, there's patience, there's watering, there's sunlight, you gotta feed the fruit. Zanna Foley (09:42) Bush? I don't know. Yeah, I trees. think trees. I think you're right. Yeah, that's good. Nadine Dyer (10:09) yeah, it is good. Anything else coming up for you as far as fruitfulness versus productivity or some like actionable, practical ways that women can activate fruit in their life or activate fruitfulness? Zanna Foley (10:28) Yeah, sure. I mean, I can just speak to the, I guess, three main things that I'm focused on, the toolkit, kind of, if you will, because again, a lot of this, I think, takes just so much intentionality. And it doesn't take a lot of time. It just takes intentionality, right? And so the first thing that I would say that is the most important thing is to have an active and healthy prayer life. because when you say, is the objective? What is the goal? What am I doing here? I think so often we want to present our own goals, our own objectives. There's nothing wrong with that. But the problem with it is that we don't always get what we want. We always get what God wants. And so the power in prayer comes from knowing what God wants and coming into agreement with that and praying his will above our own will. And I think we all in a hurried, rushed, frantic, desperate prayer usually bring, God, this is what I need. I need this XYZ to happen right now. Nadine Dyer (11:40) So hard sometimes. Zanna Foley (11:56) And that's not always gonna produce fruit because that's what we want. But if we have an active, healthy, consistent prayer life where we're sitting before the Lord and saying, this is what I feel like I want God, but if this isn't also what you want, show me what you want. And then surrendering our will to that and coming into agreement with it, I mean, he changes our heart, right? He gives us the desire of our heart. Nadine Dyer (12:01) Right. Zanna Foley (12:25) the Bible tells us that. our heart, know, prayer changes the person who's praying. It doesn't always change our circumstances, but it changes the person that's praying. So even if I do come to God with the heart of, God, make this happen for me. This is my desire and my wish. If I do that every day, he will eventually, you know, start to shift that prayer to align with his will. And before I know it, I'm praying his will. And so that's where our prayers become powerful because when we're praying what we want, we don't always get it. But when we pray what God wants, we always get it. And so a healthy and active prayer life, I think allows us to shift those prayers to be his will and alignment with his will, which always manifests reality, right? Like God always has victory in the things that he wants. Nadine Dyer (12:54) Mm. Zanna Foley (13:23) That's the first thing. I don't know if you want to touch on any of that there. Nadine Dyer (13:26) I have so much I want to say. It's crazy because you had me like, I don't know if you noticed, but I like got lost for a minute. And that was me looking up a Bible verse that I read this morning. I'm in Hosea right now. So my husband has encouraged the way he reads the Bible is like front to back, right? And this is like his fourth or fifth time going through it. I've never done it that way, which is crazy. And so I'm always trying to catch up to him because he's always like a couple of chapters just ahead of me. OK, there's been seasons where he's been a couple of books ahead of me, but I had a baby. Zanna Foley (13:35) yay! Nadine Dyer (13:55) And I'm in Hosea right now and the verse that I read and I was looking it up and here's what it says. I'm reading it in Good News Translation. It's Hosea 8:4. It says, people chose kings, but they did it on their own. They appointed leaders, but without my approval. They took their silver and gold and made idols for their own destruction. And it kind of speaks to like, if we're not praying, if we're not connected to God, We can just go build our own whatever, but it's going to lead to destruction. It's not going to lead to fruit. We're just going to go appoint leaders and go do this and go do that and be it about our own agendas. But if we stay connected to God, he's going to align us with what his will is for us. And I love that. It's so 100 % what scripture says. So I love that you've spoke to that. And then it was what I read this morning. So I had to, I got a little excited because that's always. Zanna Foley (14:50) love that too because as we're getting ready to hire people for our new business, I'm like, okay, Lord, don't let me appoint anyone that's not from you like Nadine Dyer (14:56) That's what I prayed this morning. That was exactly actually what I wrote in my prayer was, Lord, help me to only appoint leaders with your approval, your discernment and your direction. Yeah. OK, so I got to I got a recap because there's so much and then I want to hear the last two. Here's what I'm hearing. Fruitfulness takes clarity. Zanna Foley (15:09) So good. Nadine Dyer (15:22) Fruitfulness takes intentionality and guarding against just busyness. Busy isn't fruitful, productive isn't fruitful. Fruitfulness takes staying connected to God, being in prayer, being in communication with him. So we're producing fruit in accordance to his will and not wasteful or I don't know. Zanna Foley (15:30) Mm-hmm. Yes. The opposite that's so good, the opposite of fruitful is wasteful. That's so good. Because you're just wasting energy, wasting time, wasting worry. So good. I'm writing that one down. Nadine Dyer (15:53) yeah. Yeah Yeah. Yes. Okay, but I want to hear your last two. I'm like, we can't, we can't wrap up this podcast without hearing the other two. Zanna Foley (16:07) Yes. Yes, so the second kind of tool in my toolbox would be a daily self-care routine because prayer requires time, right? And you can pray in your car, you can pray while you're cooking dinner, you can pray wherever you are. But when I position myself and poise myself before God in a quiet space, that's where I am able to hear more clearly from him. And so I think, you know, having a daily self care routine just for prayer is awesome, but also moving your body. I'm, Sweat Houz is a cold plunge business. So cold plunging is a part of my daily routine. It takes two minutes to cold plunge. Like there's nobody that can't do two minutes of something for themselves. Nutrition, know, nourishing your body. When you're filling your body, you know, your body's a temple of the Holy Spirit. If you want to hear from the Holy Spirit, you better not be filling your temple with all kinds of junk because it's going to cloud the noise. It's going to create the noise and cloud his voice. And, you know, supplementation. You know, just creating some sort of a self-care routine, even if it's not long, just something for yourself to get right in the morning before the chaos begins. I think that's critical for most people. Nadine Dyer (17:43) Zanna, I think you're so spot on and that goes back to intentionality, but I can't produce my best fruit if I'm not as my best self. And I can't be my best self if I'm not healthy, if I'm not taking time for self care. So self care isn't selfish. Self care is actually the best way I can be in contribution and service in this world. Zanna Foley (18:05) Yes, you know, and even in my hardest, I think now I have a helpful husband, my kids are older. I'm thinking about the woman who's like, I've got little babies and I am not sleeping. You're like me. they're like wanting to stab me in the eyes right now because they're like self-care, like what's that? I'm trying to go back and I want people to be Nadine Dyer (18:19) me. I literally just got two and a half hours of sleep last night. I'm not joking you. Yeah! Zanna Foley (18:34) you know, encouraged with what they have. when I was even at my worst, it's like I told you in the beginning, I went to church because it was free childcare. Like I sat in the back and just cried. You know what, that was actually self care, you know? And I didn't see it that way then, but that's what it was. you know, I also, I belonged to a gym that had free childcare too. Nadine Dyer (18:49) And that was self care. Yeah, That's exactly what that was. Zanna Foley (19:02) And so sometimes I would go and I wouldn't work out. I would literally just sit in the cafe and like answer emails in peace or, you know, just whatever. But it's like, sometimes we have to get creative with our self care because I realized that everybody has an hour in the morning. You know, it's just not reality sometimes, but it's like just looking for those pockets where you could possibly build in just, you know, a couple of moments if that's what you got, you know. Nadine Dyer (19:08) That's such good self-care. That's so good . Thank you for speaking into that. I needed to hear that. That's so true. And every season is different and self care is different. That's so good. Okay. That is my self care is actually making sure I shower every day. Like that is like non-negotiable. yeah. well that wasn't supposed to be here. You guys, I swear I had to not disturb. Okay. I want to hear the last point because we're almost at the time and we can't miss it. Zanna Foley (19:35) Yes. Or honey, can I go take a shower? Yes. Yes. Okay. Last point, community and accountability. Because I was reading Proverbs this morning, 21 :2 every way of a man is right in his own eyes. We all have this tendency toward pride. We think we know better. We also forget the things that God has told us so easily. And so When we're in community with other women, when we have accountability, someone that we're sharing these prayers with, these dreams with, these intentions, these goals, this fruit that we're wanting, that accountability person, that community is able to help us to have a different perspective at times when we need a perspective shift. They're able to call us out when the things that we're doing are not in alignment with the fruit that we said we wanted, they're able to add wisdom and tools and advice. They're able to encourage us and pick us up when we're down. If it's another woman of God, then they hear from God. So they're able to deliver words of wisdom, deliver words of knowledge. they might have something really powerful for us, but when we're walking all on our own, it gets really dangerous because that pride can start to come in and we think that we know best. And then they can also just remind us of what God said. So I had the most incredible, you ever had like heard something and you don't even remember who it was that said it, but you never forgot it. yes, so this is an example of this. I went to... a prayer session downtown Indianapolis years ago. And I don't even remember who the pastor was. I probably should, because I tell everybody this. he was some sort of like scientist or mathematician. So he loved numbers. He loved formulas. He was also a pastor. And he said, I prayed and asked God for a formula for faith. And he goes, I fasted for it. I prayed for it. And one day, God delivered me a formula for faith that would work Nadine Dyer (22:06) Mmm. Zanna Foley (22:16) every time and here it is. He said equals R plus E squared. equals R plus E squared. So stands for manifestation. This is the manifestation of whatever you're praying for. R stands for Rhema. Rhema is a word from God. E stands for expectation. So the way that he broke this down and it just, I never forgot it. I just love this so much. If we want to manifest fruit, which is really just answered prayers, really in our lives, just, we want our lives to be fruitful. We want these prayers answered. We have to first have a Rhema. Otherwise we're just praying our own desires, our own will, right? So we have to say, God, what fruit, what is your prayer? What fruit do you want in my life? What prayer is your prayer? What do you say? Rhema is just what God says. So God, what do you say about this? And we have to wait for him to tell us what he says about that circumstance, about that situation, about that person. And then we have to square it by getting with someone else. So we have to take the Rhema. Nadine Dyer (23:22) Mm. Zanna Foley (23:38) and then we take our expectation of that Rhema because it's what God said, so it's gonna happen. We take that expectation, we square it with someone else, with another believer, right? And then the prayer can happen, because it's God's prayer, it's not our own, right? So if we wanna manifest a prayer, we first need a Rhema, then we need to take our expectation and square it up with someone else. So we've got now times two. That is the formula for faith. It'll work every time. Nadine Dyer (23:48) So good, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Zanna Foley (24:06) And I love that because what happens is if I share a Rhema, something that God has told me about any situation, any person, anything with another friend, she's gonna remind me of that Rhema. When I start to doubt, when I start to get defeated or discouraged and I'm like, I have been praying for this for so long, when and am I going to see the fruit? My friend is gonna remind me. Nadine Dyer (24:10) Yeah. Zanna Foley (24:34) Remember the time that he told you this and all of a sudden, I can't believe those lies anymore. Cause I remember the Rhema. So accountability and community is so key for all of those reasons. But I think that it's really important to help keeping you on track with the prayers that you're praying and the fruit that you're wanting in your life so that you just don't forget. Nadine Dyer (24:58) Wow, that's so powerful. Thank you so much for sharing that. So we're at that time. We're ready to wrap up. Zanna, is there anything else that you'd like to leave us with today? Zanna Foley (25:09) I don't think so. Nadine Dyer (25:10) Hey, this was so rich and so fruitful. Ladies, thank you for being here. We love you so much. Whatever season you're in, know you are exactly where you are supposed to be. God loves you. We love you. You are not alone. You have a community here that will come alongside of you. And we'll catch you next time. Bye! Zanna Foley (25:14) Hi! Bye.
