Episode 17 === Brian: Hello, and welcome back to quest exploration. Our podcast series, today, I'm joined by my co-host Matt Jennings, Matt: Brian, how are you today? Brian: I'm doing well. And we're joined back again with a special guest Jordan temple. How are you doing? Jordan: Doing good gentlemen. Brian: Great! Today we are going to be talking about ATM networks and how our members can take advantage of the benefits of not only being a quest member, but also the benefits of what that means in terms of having access to your money when you're away from home and or your, your local branch. So, Jordan why don't you kick us off with a little bit about what we, what we do, what we offer and where we offer it. Jordan: Yeah, we have ATM's at each of our office locations, all five offices. And then I believe 18 ATM's offsite, different businesses, factories, whatnot in the communities we serve. These ATM's are also linked through a credit union shared branching network. So any affiliated credit union that it's in that shared branching network, has the, their members have the ability to come in and use our ATM's. To access their accounts, their monies check their balances and whatnot. Brian: Absolutely. Matt: So if let's assume that's part of a credit union network, their members can use our machines. Our members can use their machines in return, correct? Jordan: That's correct. Matt: Excellent. Brian: Yeah. So the branch ATM's do they differ from our off-site ATM? Jordan: Yeah. So our branch ATM's are full service. ATM's you have the ability to make deposits, withdrawals, check your balance. You can do cash, withdraw cash deposits, and check deposits in both ATM's funds will be in your account upon deposit. Brian: Okay. Very good. And what about the offsites? What can, what are those do? Jordan: Basically you can check your balance and withdraw cash. No deposits on those at all. Brian: Okay. And do for the, for the members. Away from home. How can they take advantage of other ATM's off you know, away from home and off network, so to speak. They're not on the, on, on the quest credit union network. I guess, can they find those close to them when they're traveling? Jordan: Yes, you can either get on our website. It's the shared branching co-op or get on the shared branch. Co-op a website itself and you can. Type in a zip code city you're nearby and it will show either branches that you are affiliated to go in and do shared branching or ATM's that are accessible for members that are in the shared branching network. Brian: Very good. And I'll also add this because we haven't really touched on it, but we also, because of our card processing service provider we also participate in another network, the money pass ATM network, and that also offers. Our members surcharge free ATM's outside of just other credit unions, as far as co-op and shared branching type credit union relationships go. So that link is also provided on our website. I'll be sure to include that in the show notes. But money pass is a very widespread network of ATM's. Matt: Yeah, and I think it's really cool. You know, credit union really is a financial cooperative meaning. Every member of quest is an equal owner and we get to vote on a board of directors and have some say in the direction of the credit union. And, and, and all federal and state credit unions operate that same way. And out of the spirit of cooperation, which we are cooperatives have mostly all across the country. Agree. That Hey, if you're a member of quest, but you're head, you're traveling in Florida vacationing or you're off to the military and your base is located in Texas or California that, Hey, it's all right for you to use Navy fed or, you know, any of the, any other credit unions ATM for free and in exchange, we allow those folks to use ours for free as well. In the spirit of cooperation and to help our membership nationwide. Brian: Yep, absolutely. I was just looking at the money pass as well as the co-op share branching ATM locations. And if you or your family is going to be visiting Chicago, Illinois, just to pick a random city that I know a lot of people visit there are, literally 100 plus credit or CRA plus ATM's available to you in the downtown Chicago area. So you should have no trouble accessing your money and doing so without a fee. I mean, obviously there are ATM's on virtually every corner, but are you going to have to pay a fee to the ATM provider as well as possibly to, to quest for accessing your money? Be sure to look up those locating tools on our website. Matt: Always good to be prepared when you travel or sending your kid off to school or the military or whatever the case may be is do a little research and know in advance and, and it's you know, it's really a sense of security when you leave home, knowing that, Hey, if I'm going to be visiting this town or this city or this state I know where to go. So, Jordan you know, you talked about how our ATM's meaning our in branch ATM's are really full serve. I mean, it's like an after hours branch eh the offsites are really cash dispense only, but when you're using those, you can use any one of those with an ATM and or a debit card, correct? Jordan: That is correct. ATM or debit will work in either all of our ATMs. Matt: Okay. And if you're a member of ours and having a debit card, and I know this has happened to me before where I've traveled and I haven't thought about letting the ATM network or request know that, Hey, I'm going to be in this particular geographic area. And then my card gets paused or whatever, because they don't know I'm there. Does that work the same way with ATMs? Jordan: As far as when your card is used at an ATM? Matt: Right, say three states away? Jordan: Yes. That does track fraud department will track if there's something out of the ordinary and it does trigger that yes, it will warm your card as a possible fraud, potential fraud, kind of protect yourself. Brian: I'd add in addition to fraud and that network of, of You know, looking at red flags, potential red flags and warming your card or saying, Ooh, this might be fraud. It may not. Let's reach out and talk to members. There are a couple of things that just off the top of my head that I overhear a lot of in the office; the first thing is keep all of your contact information up to date, right? So if I change my cell phone number, should I inform you Jordan that I've done that? Jordan: Absolutely. If we don't have a correct contact number worked in it, it's going to be hard for us to. Try to get ahold of you to see if that was you making that purchase transaction. So your account can be a safeguarded. Brian: Yep. And same thing with email addresses. I would imagine because we can inform members of potential fraud, multiple ways, multiple avenues, not just a phone calls, but also via text and email. Is that correct? Jordan: That's correct. Brian: All right. And the other thing I was thinking of is that in addition to letting the credit union know about your kind of travel plans is that you can also utilize an app, a free app that we provide called MobiMoney. Do you have any notes about that real quick? Jordan: MobiMoney is great. You can hook your debit card up to it. Basically say you're using your card to go to McDonald's. You basically give them your card. And a lot of times I use it all. You'll get a text message or an alert sent to your phone that, Hey, your card was used at McDonald's for X amount of dollars, and you'll usually get that notification before they even give the card back to you through the window. Just something to kind of protect yourself. You do have the ability to turn your card off and on. As well, but just to make sure there's no fraud that comes about that, you're not aware of all debit card transactions will send you an alert message. Brian: So I know that's not specifically related to ATM's or ATM networks, but it is a it's all plastic card related. Right. You got to know what you have the ability to utilize and, and definitely letting the credit union know Where you might be traveling and utilizing those free services just a complete benefit to the member. Matt: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it is. And again, always wise to be prepared if you're taking a trip or, you know child has headed off to college or whatever the case may be is make a call into one of our branches and just say, Hey, from this Saturday til the next Friday, we're going to be gone. And this is where we're traveling to great. We turn the card on. We make sure that it's working in all the right locations. And then we can set basically that end date on it, where it says. Three days after you returned someone tried to use it in Florida. Well, that's not such a good thing. So now it's going to get shut off. But but that's for your protection. So plan ahead talk to one of any, one of the member service representatives at our offices, Jordan, and his counterparts that manage our different locations. And we can get you set up and direct you to the right website or app so that you can locate these ATM's while you're on. Brian: Absolutely. I maintain the website. So I'm going to ask myself a question, Brian, where can you find out about all of these. In a quick and easy way to get links. And I will tell you that the address on the website that is the quickest and easiest to, to talk and look for all of the things we've talked about so far is quest fcu dot com slash access. That link will take you directly to a page on our website. That includes many of our. Mobile features, all of which are free mobile apps, such as our Android or apple and Android supported credit union mobile app for online banking, access mobile deposit, our mobile wallet features. So if you prefer to pay with your phone, you can access that there, but you can also access the mobi money that we've talked about. ATM networks. There's a page that we can link to from their shared branching. Our locations and other ways to get in touch with us, but that's quest fcu.com/access. Yeah. Matt: Excellent. Thank you beyond, and I guess this is a question for either of you Jordan or Brian beyond the TM, our cards will work with like Google pay, apple pay type of thing. Yes, sir. Jordan: Okay. Yep. You just need to call into the offices and they can get you set up if you have any questions to set that up with Google or Apple Pay. Yep. Brian: Yep. Just a quick little authentication message as required. And just, we verify that you are who you say you are and, and, and do that to, to further secure your funds. Right? Matt: Okay, very good. Jordan, what else are we missing about the ATM networks? What, what, what do you hear on a day-to-day basis that Brian or I may not because we're not elbow deep in it. Jordan: lot of our members are really pleased, especially with our full access. You can almost do as much business through our ATM's that are full access at our branches. As you can, on the teller line, you can deposit money, withdraw money checks, cash deposits. And then if you need to make a loan payment over the weekend, you can get on your online banking and make that payment if you need to make a deposit prior to that. So that makes it very handy. And all of your deposits show up in real time. None of those funds are held excellent. Matt: So I'm going to ask myself a question much like Brian did earlier, and that is, will the new office at Indian lake habit, full access ATM. And the answer is yes. So we're building currently just came from there this morning. If you notice, you can't tell on the podcast, but Brian and Jordan could that I've got muddy boots on because it's been raining like crazy and it's just a mud pit at the moment. But when that is up and running, hopefully late spring, early summer of next year, it will have that. Full service ATM that all of our other offices do as well. Brian: Fantastic. All right. Well if there's not anything else we'll wrap this up. We do like to keep the episodes short and you know, succinct to the point and get everybody on their way so to speak. So Jordan, any final thoughts? Jordan: No, I appreciate the time.. Brian: Very good. Matt, any final thoughts? Matt: Thank you for having me. Yep. You're welcome. And everybody listening. Thanks for joining us. We'll see, on the next, you'll hear us on the next episode of quest exploration. That's.
