Madelyn (00:06) Hello, welcome to the unscripted files. This is our mini sode with none other than industry expert Emily Wilson, Welcome Emily, how you doing? Emily Wilson (00:13) Good. How are you? Madelyn (00:14) I'm doing really well. did you catch the Emmys Emily Wilson (00:17) did. I'll be honest, it was very late. So I got through the first half and I have to catch up on the rest. but yeah, across the pond it's in the middle of the night virtually. But honestly, brilliant in memoriam segment. and so many incredible winners. Madelyn (00:36) Absolutely. I happened to get home and turn on the TV right as Alan Cummings was coming up to win for Traders. And I thought this is absolutely perfect. I mean, we know that Traders just sweeps every time, but and I agree with you on the in memoriam segments as someone who is literally from Dolly Parton country. I thought her I thought her dedication was really incredible. But talk to me about some other winners in the unscripted world. Emily Wilson (01:00) Yeah, so as you mentioned, reality competition was taken by the traitors for the third year running. Alan Cumming also won for host. We had Stephen Colbert win in the variety category, Love on the Spectrum in Unstructured Reality, Mr. Scorsese in the documentary category, and Antiques Roadshow in structured. Madelyn (01:23) it's great to see, it's really wonderful to see reality and these producers and these creators like up on the Emmy stage and really getting recognized. And it's incredible that. I don't know. I just I just love to see it. Emily Wilson (01:36) Speaking of the traders, we have Maura Higgins and Rob Raush announced to host the US version of I'm a Celebrity, get me out of here for Peacock. this is coming after Maura has just been announced for a reboot of Blind Date. but this is such a pinnacle format in the UK. The UK have just announced another spin-off based in Canada. I'm a celebrity, the Wild Frontier. So this was last on ABC in 2003, and I'm really excited to see what Peacock does with this format. Madelyn (02:08) I was so excited to hear this news. First of all, the link up with Mara and Rob, if you're a Traders fan, you saw the chemistry and the I guess alliance is the right word on the last season of Traders until the very, very end. When he absolutely shattered her world. and but then he got her a Birkin and he made up for it. So I love the fact that they're coming back together again. They're so different, but they work. And I think that their chemistry as co-hosts will be amazing. And I mean, knowing that this format hasn't been on our screens in twenty plus years and that Peacock, who is so incredible at formats is taking this over. I totally share your enthusiasm. I can't wait to see what this looks like. Emily Wilson (02:53) Yeah, I mean Maura herself was on the British edition of the show. So she definitely has some insights there. It will be through IT V America, who has so much success on Peacock with Love Island. So yeah, excited. Madelyn (03:05) Love it. Speaking of early two thousands, we're gonna get some early two thousands nostalgia on on Roku, right, with Paris Hilton. Talk to me about it girls. Emily Wilson (03:15) Yes, so the It Girls inside the Two Thousands is being executive produced by Paris Hilton for Raku, alongside Eleven Eleven Media and Everwonder Studio, who were notably behind reality check inside America's Next Top Model, as well as Hi Mum Productions. the documentary which is now in pre production will explore the time when paparazzi tabloids and reality TV transformed celebrities into commodities and fundamentally changed the relationship between fame, media and pop culture. Madelyn (03:46) Interesting. I mean that really was an unbelievable time to be a celebrity. It felt so unhinged that there were no boundaries and that ultimately We didn't really feel like they deserved boundaries. It was just a completely different time. So along the lines of retrospectives, America's next top model, the biggest loser, you know, it's only right that we look back at this time. So I'm I'm really excited for this. And I'm a fan of Paris Holton. I think people just thought that this character she created was who she was and in reality she's a super smart businesswoman who is still relevant twenty years later. So super exciting to see what Roku does with this. I mean, after their Hills reboot and everything else, they're really doubling down on this two thousands nostalgia for sure. Emily Wilson (04:29) Speaking of nostalgia, we have a Netflix documentary announcement premiering next month called The One About Matthew Perry, a three part a three part docuseries about the Friend Star's life and career. Madelyn (04:42) that'll be really nice to I mean, I think there's so much there, such an iconic character, so close to so many people's hearts. I imagine that we'll get to hear from a lot of his incredible co stars, or I hope that we do. So that'll be that'll be a nice one to come around. Emily Wilson (04:58) So speaking of Netflix, they've had lots of news recently. I was wondering if you have any news that you may like to share. Madelyn (05:07) Isn't it so fun that that we've we've been doing this for so long and now it's fun that we get to talk about a deadline headline that has to do with one of us? Emily Wilson (05:16) Yeah. Madelyn (05:17) yeah, so it was really exciting. A format that I sold to Netflix was announced in deadline since the last time we spoke. I'd had the idea for a while, and I'm a big fan of partnerships. I've always as an independent producer, I always partner. My projects are always enhanced when I work with someone smarter than me. And as soon as I met Nikki, I thought I just knew there was so much she could bring to this format. And we developed it, brought it to Netflix, and they partnered us up with some incredible Incredible legendary producers out of the UK. We're working with Metal Mouse, which is headed up by Sarah Tykeef and Sean Perry. Sarah was an OG showrunner on Love Island. She also EP'd I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, which we were just talking about. And Sean is, you know, was on Big Brother for years and has a ton of other incredible credits. So just creatively, it's been so amazing to work with them and to learn from them. And, you know, as a young independent producer, it's tough to break through. So really grateful to my execs at Netflix for wanting to, bring a fresh voice through. And we'll be on screens in in late twenty twenty seven. So I'm really thrilled and as much as I can share here as we continue to develop, I certainly will. But thank you so much. Emily Wilson (06:31) it. I can't wait to see this play out. I can't wait for the world to see it. It's so exciting. Madelyn (06:37) Thank you. Thank you. It's pretty surreal. It's really cool. and you know, just a testament to you get a hundred no's before you get a yes. So it's just a testament to like keep pushing, talk about your work, partner up with people who are better than you and smarter than you. and and sometimes it can all work out. So it's it's it's fun to be able to talk about that here. And I'm excited to see what happens. So thank you so so much for coming on. We're both traveling. I'm literally in the car right now. You just got back from the airport. and so thank you for always being willing to hop on and share the news with us.
