Madelyn (00:00) Hey, hey, welcome to The Unscripted Files. This is our Monday mini-sode with none other than Emily Wilson. Welcome, Emily. Emily Wilson (00:06) Thank you for having me back. Madelyn (00:08) We were just going through our run of show and we were surprised at how much news we have here. So let's dive right in. Looks like we have another large format competition that just got green lit at Netflix. Emily Wilson (00:20) We do, it's called Win The Mall. I'm surprised that there hasn't been a shopping format more recently than this, to be honest, because it's something that everyone relates to. So I'm excited to see where Fremantle takes this one. Madelyn (00:35) I agree, feels like this has probably been, something like this has probably been pitched around quite a lot and it just wasn't the right time, partners, packaging, but you know, Fremantle with so many incredible formats under their belt brought it through and it's, you know, perfect timing news as we enter into our retail Black Friday season. So it's said that it's a mix of being a savvy shopper but also some social skills. So really interesting to see how this is gonna play out. Emily Wilson (01:03) And we've seen a lot of different things in the reality space being renewed or being spun off. So there is a summer house spin-off in the world. Madelyn (01:11) it looks like Summerhouse is doing a spinoff called In the City. And then I also saw some rumors that Hulu is exploring spinoffs of Mormon Wives, which is a surprise to absolutely no one. So I'm sure we'll continue to see that. Emily Wilson (01:24) Yeah, I mean, spin-offs seem to be everything at the moment. Love is blind in the UK. Just ordered one this week as well. So yeah, more spin-offs. Madelyn (01:36) Speaking of spinoffs, Versant has now designated USA Sports as the brand for their sports programming on Golf Channel and USA Network. I also saw that the Golf Channel just announced that they're picking up a video podcast from Chad Muman, well as Adams called Vanity Index. They have rights to, looks like golf, stock car racing, Premier League soccer, WWE, WNBA, college basketball, and a few other sports. So they're planning to air more than 10,000 hours of original sports programming on USA Golf Chaminal and CNBC next year. Emily Wilson (02:11) There's a lot of other sports formats as well which have been commissioned this week. We have Hometown Eats which is produced by NFL Films as well as Eva Longoria. Madelyn (02:22) Yeah, it looks like Eva Longoria is a long time Dallas Cowboys fan. She's gonna host an executive produce. it's a partnership between NFL Films, Alfred Street Industries, Hyphenate Media, Skydance Sports, and will be Roku's second deal with the NFL. So it's going to be a three-part show that's going to follow a die-hard celebrity fan and an NFL star as they take to the streets of their team city. We live in game day glory diving into local traditions and devouring its most legendary eats. This feels like a really smart move on Roku's part. So excited to see this come together. Emily Wilson (02:53) Completely. And that's not the only celebrity sport format we have in the news this week. We have Kevin Hart and Keenan Thompson leading a sports talk show at Prime Video, which is coming at the end of the month. Madelyn (03:06) Yeah, it looks like they got a nice little 12 episode order called good sports with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson So they're gonna bring together sports superfans and comedy superstars and put a news spin on sports commentary according to prime video it'll be really fun to sort of see how they put more of an energetic comedic spin on this. Emily Wilson (03:26) I'm excited to see what happens. we have a YouTube creator showcase this week which really focused on both late night and stand up comedy. We've seen Trevor Noah go over to YouTube as well. And a big creator slate coming. Madelyn (03:43) Yeah, it looks like they hosted their first ever creator premiere showcase this past week in New York to launch a slate of new titles including Being able to snag Trevor Noah, which will be really cool And this just confirms that this is more and more our creator economy and where they're choosing to spend their time. Emily Wilson (04:01) Yeah, definitely a lot of execs at all of the Indies, at all of the broadcasters talking about YouTube and creator relevance. So it's not surprising to see them hitting the main headlines and attracting the big stars as well. Madelyn (04:16) Absolutely. think we had a exit of an exec as well. What's the news there? Emily Wilson (04:22) We did. We had Tim Davey leaving the BBC as well as the BBC head of news Deborah Turner. so the BBC has been accused of bias with this Trump interview that they edited as well as over a recent Gaza documentary and some transgender issues. So it's not surprise that this resignation has gone ahead. Madelyn (04:41) the last thing here, it looks like the Critics' Choice was held last week in New York, and most notably, The Perfect Neighbor, which is the Netflix documentary, won five awards, including Best Documentary Feature, and kind of swept the awards, and for good reason, too. They got Best Director, Best Editing, Best Archival, and Best True Crime Doc. This is a documentary about a very fraught, turned violent neighbor relationship in Florida that was told mostly through police body cam footage and was really wonderful. So happy to see that that got the praise it deserves. Emily Wilson (05:16) think we've covered as much as we possibly can this week. I mean, so much is happening, which is really exciting to see for the industry. Madelyn (05:24) I agree. Yes, I feel it too. I feel things kind of ramping up. So it's nice to have that energy as we move towards the end of the year. Well, thank you, Emily, so much as always. Don't forget you can follow Emily Wilson on LinkedIn.
