Madelyn (00:00) Hello, happy Monday. Welcome to The Unscripted Files. This is our Monday mini-sode with Emily Wilson, who's giving us all the insider industry TV news. Welcome, Emily. Emily Wilson (00:11) Thank for having me back. It's exciting to be here as always. Madelyn (00:14) Every time I see you, I'm like, has it been two weeks already? It's crazy. It's wild. Last time we talked about how Monopoly is in a bidding war for Netflix between a couple of different production companies. And now we have another board game that's coming to the zeitgeist. Tell me about that. Emily Wilson (00:17) I know. We do. We have Clue, which is also being developed at Netflix and in partnership with Hasbro, obviously, who owns the game. So it will be interesting to see as well as Monopoly whether Netflix can balance these two formats. Madelyn (00:48) Yeah, big undertaking for them for sure. It also looks like there is a scripted series that is hitting the TV marketplace. lots of lots of board game nostalgia, I think we are going to be seeing in the next couple of years as we continue to double down on known IP and brand familiarity when it comes to our unscripted entertainment. Emily Wilson (01:15) Yeah, I mean we've seen it with guess toys for years so it's exciting to see it with games and I would really be excited if some less generic games were also part of this because I feel like there's so many out there that we just haven't seen on screen at all. Madelyn (01:31) Okay, tell me what's next. We've got a nice little ABC-HGTV crossover here. Emily Wilson (01:36) We do. So we have a renovation series on H2TV, but it's focused on the Bachelor Mansion, which is an iconic set piece really. So we have some Bachelor alum coming back specifically for this renovation format. Madelyn (01:53) Yeah, I think this was really smart. The Bachelor Mansion is so iconic, I think it could use a little update. Bringing back those old cast members, some of the more maybe infamous cast members, it'll be really cool. We also have Tyler Cameron, who was on Hannah Brown's season and also went on to have his own Amazon home renovation show. Tyler will be judging along. Tasha Adams and in the end only one bachelor alum will win a $100,000 cash prize. So that would certainly be a lot of fun and good move by Warner Brothers Discovery. Emily Wilson (02:31) And it's pretty much a free renovation for them along the way. Madelyn (02:35) Yes, for future seasons of this franchise. It's a win-win for everybody, right? All right, so Instagram's already taking over our phones, but tell me now what they're up to. Emily Wilson (02:47) mean, Instagram is now looking at building a dedicated TV app, which is not surprising considering YouTube's dominance within the TV space. And Instagram chief Adam Maceri said at the Bloomberg Screen Time Conference that he really wants to get in on this as well. Madelyn (03:05) it's not a surprise, right? We've already seen this with X. TikTok has started allowing longer and longer videos for longer form content. So it'll be interesting to see how they capitalize on their creator economy for sure to bring entertainment in the form of their own app. Emily Wilson (03:26) I think that Instagram are in an interesting position where they can lose their creators to YouTube or to even Netflix in some form. So it will be interesting how they will try and keep their creators in-house and maybe even develop some formats. We'll see. Madelyn (03:44) I just keep thinking about the first time I had Instagram. It was my senior year. It was prom and filters were everything. it's so funny to seeing Instagram go through like phases of what is. cool to post on Instagram. It used to be heavily filtered, now it's the monthly carousel dumps. it's just, it's so interesting Emily Wilson (04:03) completely and with video as well. I mean IGTV did not work out. They got rid of that very quickly. Reels are now massive. So maybe IGTV is making a comeback in a new way. Madelyn (04:17) rise of verticals I think. Some big news over the pond, MIPCOM, a lot of news coming out of there. That's your neck of the woods. Tell me more about some updates we're hearing. Emily Wilson (04:28) Yeah, I mean, there's been so many international sales, some new formats coming to the forefront as well, which is always exciting. Something like Pandora's Box, which is coming out of Fremantle and is, I think, being made in three different countries at the moment. Banajay has bought the Rites to Werewolves from Studio Canal, and I think they're looking to develop that in three or four different territories. Just some really fascinating formats. I actually saw a post today. about an advent calendar themed dating format from Canadian sphere media, which I thought sounded quite genius. Madelyn (05:02) Yes, as soon as you said that, I'm like, what? Why didn't I think of that? Just when you think that there can't be any new ideas were proven wrong, again, by some of those companies that are known for just bringing forward a ton of ingenuity, Advent calendar themed dating show. I love it already. Well, it'll be exciting, I'm sure, in the next year or two to see the rollout of some of these. Any other major news we want to cover? Emily Wilson (05:28) I think that's all for this week. Madelyn (05:30) Okay, alright, Emily, thank you so much.
