Hello and welcome to Vinyl-O-Matic. I am your old pal will, here to present you with Season 4, Episode 43 in which we travel through the rest of singles with a-sides that begin with the letter M and embark upon singles with a-sides that begin with the letter N.
Let's get things rolling with a one time member of The Cookies and The Raelettes.

Welcome back. That was indeed Arthur Lee and his band Love stripping down Burt Bacharach's "My Little Red Book" and taking it that extra miles, along with the flipside Byrds-esque song "Message to Pretty". That is on Elektra Records from the year 1966. That was preceded by Darlene McCrea and a fine fine song called "My Heart's Not in It" which some listeners may be familiar with from being covered on Yo La Tengo's Stuff Like That There. The b-side is entitled "Don't Worry Baby", on Tower Records (no not the the former big yellow unit shifter but the label) from 1964.
Up next, 16 year old Betty LaVette tells us about her man.

Oh hey, it's me your old pal Will. We got that set started off with Betty LaVette and her single "My Man - He's a Lovin Man" back with the killer b-side "Shut Your Mouth". That is an Atlantic Records release from 1962. That was followed up with yes, The Knack and their smash hit "My Sharona" and another killer b-side "Let Me Out". That blasted through the charts in 1979 on Capitol Records. If your the sort who like rock documentaries, there's a pretty good one out there about The Knack that is worth checking out.

Dang, now that is an a-side, "New Orleans" by Gary US Bonds, backed with "Please Forgive Me". That is on Legrand Records from 1960. And we heard from Bobby Weinstein fronting as The Lovin' Cohens and his spoof on The Lovin Spoonful's "Nashville Cats", except instead of Nashville studio musicians it's about a fine delicatessen. That is backed with a Mercy-beat-esque tune called "Shoilly Klein", released on MGM Records from the year 1967.
And now, let us journey back into the early years of the 21st Century.

We made it! If you cast your minds back you will recall that we kicked that last set off with Fluke Starbucker and their lovely limited edition release on Isota Records from 2002. The a-side consisted of two tracks: "New Parade" and "Carwash", and the b-side was a piece entitled "Cumulous to Nebulous". Finally, we heard from The Strangeloves and their single "Night Time" with the flipside of "Rhythm of Love" on Bang Records form 1965. And if you haven't watched the Bang Records documentary, you should. Children of the 80s may recall that the J Geils Band covered "Night Time" on their Love Stinks album.
