10 - NewsLog === [00:00:00] Tiffany: Welcome back everyone. Today is day 10 of GBA's 12 days of GBA and we are highlighting the NewsLog. This is GBA's biweekly email that keeps members informed and connected. [00:00:18] Ryan: We're not just talking headlines. We're breaking down the categories of information you'll find in every edition, some exciting examples, a little gossip, and even some breaking news. [00:00:28] Tiffany: That's right. Every NewsLog starts with a brief announcement or two followed by the GBA news section. It says, any hot topics that GBA wants you to be aware of. So if nothing else, read this opening section, but really don't stop there, 'cause they list the GBA events right after this with links to sign up or get more information. Basically, it's your calendar for staying plugged into all things GBA. [00:00:57] Ryan: For example, recent editions highlighted speakers [00:01:00] for the upcoming spring conference in Phoenix in April, and encouraged nominating one of the awesome projects that you have for the Woodward L Voght Project Excellence Award. [00:01:09] Tiffany: And it's not just dates, it also includes registration links, PDH opportunities and committee information. If you want to network or stay in the know the NewsLog is your guide. [00:01:23] Ryan: Next up Member News. This is where the Gossip Lives, promotions, new hires, acquisitions, office openings, you name it. [00:01:32] Tiffany: Ryan, I think this is what the kids would call the tea. Basically. It's really cool news about things going on with member firms like acquisitions and major position announcements. It's your spot to stay connected to the industry and trends. [00:01:51] Ryan: Like UES acquires GME testing in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It's a big move. Kleinfelter opens new laboratory in Houston. That's expansion in [00:02:00] action and leadership changes too. VHB Announces new president and CEO, Bill Ashworth, these updates tell you who's shaping the industry. [00:02:09] Tiffany: Hmm, those were good ones. So Ryan, doesn't each edition also feature that super cool content that the multimedia committee puts out? [00:02:21] Ryan: Yes, I'm glad you mentioned that, Tiffany. Every edition also links to the latest GBA podcast episodes, so maybe that's the Case History series or GeoHeroes right now. [00:02:32] Tiffany: Yeah, hopefully everyone listening has heard some of our case history episodes where we share real lessons learned like maybe environmental or geotech issues that can lead to costly consequences. [00:02:45] Ryan: And NewsLog celebrated a milestone. The GBA podcast hit 20,000 downloads. Actually we're at 24,000 now. [00:02:53] That shows how much members value these stories. [00:02:59] Tiffany: [00:03:00] Love that. Had to do that for you, Ryan. Another, since that's my catchphrase. Another thing that's always included is the industry headlines section. This includes different trends like regulation changes, tech trends, and innovations. [00:03:18] Ryan: Some recent examples, AI adoption in geoprofessional practice, climate risk modeling for infrastructure and seismic engineering challenges for San Diego International Airport's New terminal. These aren't random links. They're handpicked to keep you informed and current. [00:03:35] Tiffany: Those sound awesome. All right. Next we have community features. That's the fun stuff like photo contests, book clubs, and tributes. [00:03:48] Ryan: Like the photo contest that had everyone showing off their best project shots or the book club featuring leadership reads our own Tiffany Vorhies helped facilitate the last in-person book [00:04:00] club meeting. You wanna give us a little bit about that? [00:04:03] Tiffany: It was honestly awesome. We had probably 25 people and we talked about the ideal team player. It was very cool to hear people's stories, takeaways, and insights on how much the book had impacted them. [00:04:20] Ryan: I was there. I enjoyed it. And this section also includes things like heartfelt moments, like the tribute to Jim Schnabel, honoring decades of contributions. [00:04:31] But wait, there's more. We've got some occasional extras, so beyond the regulars. Some additions bring special treats. [00:04:40] Tiffany: Yeah, some recent ones were new GBA products and documents like the updated mentoring program best practices definitely have to keep that current. They also had crane pad and working platform best practices. I [00:05:00] actually wanna read that one 'cause it sounds awesome. From what I had heard the committees saying about how they partnered together between CoMET and Geo. And then there was also recently an internship conversion guide that digs into getting your interns to turn into full-time employees. Love it. [00:05:20] Ryan: Or program announcements. Calls for emerging leaders, program nominations. That's where Tiffany and I met AW and early professional class opportunities, which has been an awesome experience, not just for those participating, but also for the SMEs who've had the opportunity to do some of that training. [00:05:38] Tiffany: Yeah, some great stuff there. We did meet at Emerging Leaders. I love that program. It's amazing. And my exposure to early professional class. I was one of the subject matter experts recently. Pretty pumped about that program as well. GBA is doing great things. So also though, back to the NewsLog, don't forget there's special [00:06:00] campaigns and videos. [00:06:01] Like they recently had some promo videos featuring some of us as amazing actors. [00:06:09] Ryan: Oh, those were great. Shout out to Tim Rodriguez for creating the Fall Leadership Summit video and helping make those promos shine. Who knew engineering types could be so creative and funny? [00:06:21] Tiffany: Yeah, feel free to judge my acting. It's okay. I'm, I'm better for podcasting and I know [00:06:28] it. Alright, Ryan. Alright, Ryan, let's wrap this up. Essentially, the story here is that everyone needs to be reading the NewsLog again. It's every other week packed with member news, podcasts, industry insights, and new resources or leadership programs. [00:06:45] It is packed with value and great information. [00:06:49] Ryan: Bottom line, if you're not reading NewsLog, you're missing out on the tools, updates, and opportunities that keep our profession moving forward.
