Jonathan Wier (00:07) Hey, welcome to the show all 11 of you. It's me, Jonathan. I'm a good buddy, Cody Aikens from AikensVCRepair.com. Hey Cody. Sounds sad. Cody Akins (00:15) Hi, what's going on? I mean, frustrated like most of Kansas City. Jonathan Wier (00:23) Really? That's not my vibe here at all. Like at all. I'm not even kidding. Maybe it's the difference between your side of the state and my side of the state. A bunch of rich feet dirtbags over here are just like, my life's great no matter whether the Chiefs win or lose. Sure, I have season tickets, but who cares? Whereas maybe your side is like, I need them to win because it's the only good thing in my life. Yeah. Cody Akins (00:45) Yeah, see, the Chiefs lost. Right, right, right, man, like, my numbers sucked this year because of the snow and the ice, like, now I gotta be reminded the Chiefs lost and I'm poor. Jonathan Wier (00:58) This year. You mean the one month that we've had so far? Okay, let's get into it. Let's get into it. Cody Akins (01:03) Okay, first off, January lasted like 368 weeks, alright? Jonathan Wier (01:09) Yeah, obviously the Chiefs lost us tonight in the Super Bowl 40 to 22. I'll just give you a quick story about what it was like watching that game for me. I did all of my sulking in the first three quarters and then literally enjoyed the last quarter because I was like, oh, you know what? It's garbage time. I've never seen garbage time in my homes. I don't think anybody's seen garbage time homes because I was trying to think of how many times there's actually been garbage time of homes Tampa Bay, that, that super bowl, but I turned that off. I couldn't, I couldn't watch the rest of that game and it didn't matter anyway, cause they weren't scoring. They came close and then that's when the Superman throw happened and all that stuff. I genuinely can't think of garbage time of a garbage time of homes. The Titans game in 2021, where they got blown out by the Titans, he was pulled in the fourth quarter because he got hit in the need in the head. Which weird, the guy who was the king of roughing the passer calls need in the head and nothing happened. But he was pulled in the game. And that I think is one of the few losses that they've had by more than 10 points in his career. So not seeing garbage time of homes. And I got to tell you garbage time of homes is fun. If you can't enjoy garbage time of homes, then you don't deserve it. Cody Akins (02:28) If garbage time- Hey, if Garbage Time from the Homes had played the whole game last night, we might have won. Jonathan Wier (02:37) So that's that was where I was at. I did all my sulking in the first three quarters. I actually I was surprised at this. I got I honestly got honestly got tears in my eyes when he had that pass and it was still early in the game early enough that we could have caught up. I think we're down by 14 points at this point. He had a pass to the Andre Hopkins who was wide open. would have at least taken it to the red zone, to the Eagles red zone. And D hop did something he so seldom does. He dropped the ball and that's one where I was like, it's over because that's the kind of play that the chiefs when they're going to come back, like against the Texans, right? That's the kind of play that has to get made. And if it doesn't, it's not happening. So I teared up for that. And I also teared up because I love Deandre Hopkins. His life story is so inspiring and he seems like such a great dude. And I really wanted them to win the Superbowl for him. He's a hall of fame player. This was probably his only shot at getting a Superbowl. I don't think he's going to be on the team next year unless he takes a huge cut just to be part of it. And that was probably his, his, his chance at immortality and he dropped it and it That's when I really, I was shocked. I was like, I had tears in my eyes. And then I was like, eh, fine. Cody Akins (04:09) Man, did you see Chris Jones's reaction when he dropped that pass? Yeah, he went like Chris Jones was sitting on the bench and he just like fell to his knees and started just beating on the ground, man. Jonathan Wier (04:14) When D-hop dropped it? No. Well, what'd he do? Okay, so I'll just tell you also what it was like in my house last night. Katie and I are just sitting there in disbelief at one point, and this is like in the third quarter. And they're down, I can't remember, it's 34 to nothing at one point, right? And just sitting there going like, what is this? What is even happening? And I look over on the couch and Finn is over on the couch, but he hasn't like said anything for like 10 minutes, which is odd for him. And he's covered up in his chief's blanket. And I can see the chief's blanket kind of shaking just a little bit. And I go over to the blanket and I peel it back. Just the biggest tears just rolling down his face. Just absolute. agony agony and I scooped him up off the couch and he wasn't like bawling but he was just like he didn't know what was going on I Scooped him off off the couch. I sat him down between me and Katie on the loveseat and I looked at him and went This is the rest of your life I Was like it just occurred to me this has never happened to you So for those of us who have kids who have only known, like, cause the first time the Chiefs won the Super Bowl against the Eagles last time, kid was six. How many memories do you have of anything before six years old? Cody Akins (06:07) Dude, struggle remembering what I had for breakfast half the time. Jonathan Wier (06:09) Right. So his first memories of watching Chief's games are all victories. They're all wins. He doesn't remember the Tampa Bay game from 2020, 2021, he was in bed at halftime. He didn't remember that game. And he was three when that game happened. Or four, I guess. And I was just like, yeah, it has to suck so much worse for him because we're the opposite. We got to experience the agony first and then the bliss. And then last night when the agony hits again, it's kind like, oh yeah, that's right. This is what that feels like. This is the typical feeling of, and I'm not saying as a Chiefs fan, I'm saying of a fan of anything. I'm saying as a fan of not even sports. I'll say a fan of, if you're a fan of Marvel movies, you had a great run and that ended with end game. And then you're like, oh, they all suck now? God damn it. Cody Akins (06:48) Yeah. you Jonathan Wier (07:08) If you're a fan of anything, eventually that thing is going to break your heart and crush your soul. But it's worth it because it pays off. It's always the promise of it paying off. And for him and probably all the kids in his class around his age, they have no idea what it's like to lose yet. So it's gotta be so much worse for them that they are not, that they, and I asked him today, like when I came home, was like, hey, how was school today? He was like, everybody was so sad. And I was like, yeah, I guess so. Like you guys don't know how to deal with this. Cody Akins (07:53) No, forget the fact that they're not even sure how to handle the loss. Remember, these kids have never experienced anything worse than an AFC Championship loss. Could you imagine telling some of these kids that we've... Yeah. Jonathan Wier (08:03) Yeah, yeah. Yeah, they still. You're right. This is this is a Super Bowl loss. Super Bowl loss. This is nothing compared to what you're supposed to be feeling what 30 other teams feel every year a loss at least in the playoffs. How half the league doesn't even get to the playoffs. Cody Akins (08:18) Yeah. Yeah, tell these kids what it's like to have a season where we don't even make the postseason. Like, by week 14 our dreams are over. Like... Jonathan Wier (08:34) Yeah, what it's like to hope that your team loses the last couple games so you get a better draft pick and then they get Eric Fisher, who by the way, after last night, I would kill for and I'm not talking about 2013 Eric Fisher. I'm talking about goddamn 2025 Eric Fisher. What was he doing? Where is he at? Who was the last team he played for? Was he available? Could they not have him out there? Jesus Christ, that was bad. Cody Akins (08:38) Yeah! Admit, our O-line couldn't stop a cold last night. Jonathan Wier (09:04) They I'm not look, I'm not an X's and O's guys. If you listen to this podcast and you know anything about me, you know, I most more speak to vibes and feelings. But I was noticing this. And if I notice it, then other people are picking up on this, too. Every single pass rush that they had, it was obvious that they were passing the ball. Because every single time the linemen, especially Tooney, got into what's called the vertical set, meaning he stands straight up and runs backwards. That's what they're doing. was that move. And I was like in the first quarter, was like, okay, obviously we're passing. You didn't need an empty backfield to know that we're passing. You know they're passing based on the fact that he stands straight up. And I mean, they were getting pressure with four. They didn't blitz. Once? It was an absolute abomination on the offense. here's where the hoping your team is so bad that you get good draft picks. Here's how that works for a modern day Chiefs fan. You want me to explain how it works for a modern day Chiefs fan? Here's how it works. If you're gonna lose, lose so badly that you have to fire Matt Nagy. Cody Akins (10:21) right ahead. Jonathan Wier (10:32) lose so badly that maybe we're gonna trade, I don't know, somebody, I don't wanna say, I don't wanna say anything, because I don't wanna lose any these plays, I love all these guys, but we're gonna trade somebody to get better draft picks so we can have a good left tackle. Cody Akins (10:51) Can we try it, Jawan Taylor? Jonathan Wier (10:54) He wasn't look, I'm not I'm not. I think I've established myself as a decent as a Jawan Taylor defender. He needs at least one. He wasn't the problem last night. We all know what the problem was is Caliendo and Tooney. It was. I'm not saying Taylor was great, but almost every time there were so many play at one point, Patrick Mahomes got sacked because he ran into Caliendo's ass like not. butt fumble type of thing, but he was trying to escape the pocket and Caliendo is just standing there going, no, was absolutely that that's what that's for a chiefs fan. That's tanking for two. that's, that's what you're doing. You're like, okay, hopefully this is so embarrassing that this is losing to the bangles after being up by 21 embarrassing. And we all were horrified when it happened, but it's trading Tyree kill and getting the draft picks that built this defense. Cody Akins (11:56) Speaking of embarrassing, did you see the post that was put on Instagram from a former Chiefs player who thought he would have had an impact on the game last night if he had still been there? There's this turd ball by the name of Tony. I'm not sure if you remember him or not. This dude straight up Jonathan Wier (12:16) No wait, wasn't he on the field? That was Tony and DeAndre Hopkins. I think actually Tony somehow had cloned himself and turned himself white and gained five inches because he was also Travis Kelce out there. If you wanted to see what Tony was like out there, you saw him every damn pass play. Cody Akins (12:30) So anyways... This idiot goes on Instagram and posts a picture of Batman next to the Bat-Signal. dude, you think you're Batman and you think you're gonna come in and save the Chiefs? Like, you had a good punt return in the Super Bowl. I'll give you that one, man, but... Jonathan Wier (12:43) Dude, no. And he did the corndog play. He did not. Cody Akins (12:54) Yeah, yeah, but... Jesus, ugh... I can't... Jonathan Wier (12:57) Kaderrius Tony, there's a great and I encourage everybody to watch this. There's a great documentary by Secret Base, which is a YouTube channel that I love. It's run by John Boyce, who's a Kansas City native and a Chiefs fan, but he doesn't lean too heavily into that. But he has this whole documentary on and it's called the Kaderrius Tony Fan Club. it's part one and part two. It's about like an hour. I it might be two hours long, but it's fascinating. because it's how all of us feel about Kadaria Sony where it's like, he could have been one of the greatest wide receivers of all time. And instead he had the worst season for wide receiver by EPA ever, ever. Like, no, it's not even close. If you look at his stats for 2023, he had the worst season for a wide receiver ever. With that in mind, again, garbage time of homes. In garbage time Xavier Worthy. Nobody's going to remember this. Xavier Worthy's stats by the end of the game were the best stats in a Super Bowl for any wide receiver, not named Jerry fucking Rice. I'm not kidding. That is a real stat. It was the second best game by any wide receiver in the Super Bowl ever besides Jerry Rice. And they did it in one quarter. Cody Akins (14:11) Hey. Dude, think Xavier... I think he's the only one who hit one of those legs on that six-leg parlay I had yesterday. I think the five receptions was the only thing I hit on that entire deal. Jonathan Wier (14:28) Hahaha. You know what's funny? why did what? Well, let's just talk about this. You had me put that in for you because I'm in Kansas and you're in Missouri. Why couldn't you put that in? Cody Akins (14:43) because it's still not active in Missouri yet. They approved it, but it's not active, which is stupid because DraftKings was advertising. Jonathan Wier (14:45) I thought it was active in Missouri. Okay. I thought legally Missouri had to enact anything within 21 days or whatever. Cody Akins (14:54) Well, I guess they're putting all the systems in. It's been officially signed into law, but they don't have all the systems in fo- I don't know, dude. It's the- It's the government. Jonathan Wier (14:59) I'm telling you that took forever in Massachusetts. It was legalized for three years in Massachusetts before it went live. Anyway, yeah, so I put the bet in for Cody in Kansas and I'll tell you Cody, it wouldn't let me do it the first couple of times where I hit it and it like started cycling, know, the screen was spinning. I was like, okay. And I tried it again. I really think that was like the universe going, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Cody Akins (15:06) Well, what- Jonathan Wier (15:29) Don't. Just don't. Don't. Cody Akins (15:34) I wouldn't have been mad if you had been like, hey man, the universe is telling you to save a hundred bucks. Jonathan Wier (15:38) I thought about it, okay, let's talk about this because I worked today, you worked today. I'm sure you talked with people about the game. Every single person I talked to, again, I'm in Kansas, I'm in Overland Park, I'm in Hoity Toity Cake Eater Town as Rod used to call it. Nobody was sad, but we all talked about how our kids were sad. We all talked about how our kids were devastated. A guy said that his son and his nephew, both eight and 10 years old, were literally hugging each other and crying. And I was like, yeah, they're not used to this. And I still feel like that's worse. I think it's better to go through the lowered expectations and then be blown away by, and having like, you know, a cynical mindset than it is to just expect victory every time and then get humiliated. But everybody I talked to was like, yeah, I'm not that depressed. And when I think about it, I wasn't nervous yesterday. And if you're not nervous about the game, then you can't be depressed about the outcome. Because if you're not nervous going in, that means you're like, legacy is intact. Like people today are trying to say, Patrick Mahomes, never gonna catch Brady. Yeah, what was Brady's record after five Super Bowls? Do you know what it was, Cody? Cody Akins (17:01) No. Jonathan Wier (17:01) It's three and two. three and two. And you know who his two losses were to do? Eli Manning. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Patrick Mahomes. Which is funny, I feel for the goat debate, I feel like this is funny because I hear people making this point all the time. He'll never be as good as Tom Brady because Tom Brady beat him. So he's not the goat. It's like, wait, hold on a second. If the only person who's ever beat him is the guy that you think is the goat, then oddly, that makes him more likely to be the goat. Cody Akins (17:08) The Giants? Jonathan Wier (17:34) because the only time that he was beaten other than now by Jalen Hurts, but he was beaten by Tom Brady and Jalen Hurts, two much better quarterbacks and Joe Burrow than Eli Manning and definitely better than Nick Foles. So if the only person people he's lost to is the guy that you considered to the GOAT and two other elite quarterbacks, then I think that's a better case for him being the GOAT than Brady, who by the way, I'm sick and tired of hearing about this shit too. Because I heard this all night, Brady never got blown out in the Super Bowl. Yeah, he just got blown out in AFC Championship games. He only got blown out by Mark Sanchez. He only got blown out by Jake Cutler. Do you know why the Patriots didn't three-peat in 2006? They won in four and five. You know why they didn't three-peat? You know what stopped their three-peat? First of all, they went 10 and six in 2006. Worse than the Chiefs were last year when they won. And then in the divisional round got their asses kicked by Jake Cutler. And the Denver Broncos by the pre manning Denver Broncos. think Mike, I think Mike Shanahan was still the guy. I don't remember who the coach was. They didn't have anybody anymore. They weren't good anymore. They were like seven years removed from being good. And then the Broncos got the crap kicked out of them by Peyton Manning in the AFC championship game. Yeah, that's, that's who Tom Brady lost to Mark Sanchez, Jay Cutler, obviously Peyton Manning and Eli Manning. Not good quarterbacks. mean, the last Peyton Manning, obviously a good quarterback, but not, but not a good playoff quarterback to be honest with you. So yeah, I don't know. Again, just going on vibes. I don't feel as bad. And great YouTube channel. How about those chiefs ask this question. Here's a question that I didn't want to ask, but I'll ask it anyway. Which Superbowl loss felt worse? This one or Superbowl 55, which was Tampa? Which one felt worse for you, Cody? Cody Akins (19:51) Dude, I feel like... I feel like this one. Yup. Jonathan Wier (19:56) Really? I'm gonna tell you right now, that's recency bias. That's recency bias. That is not accurate. No. I mean, I'm not gonna tell you how you should feel, but go ahead. You give me your reason. Cody Akins (20:02) No, no, look, here's the- Okay, look going into Super Bowl 55 It was against Tom Brady Tom Brady was the first quarterback to ever play a Super Bowl in his home stadium Even though it was supposed to be a neutral site the fact that the Buccaneers and it was Tom Brady There had been any other quarterback. I feel like it would have been a different story, but the NFL had to take care of their then golden boy So I Jonathan Wier (20:35) come on. Cody Akins (20:38) I felt an expectation that we were going to lose 55. Like I kind of went into this one. I had hopes that we would beat the Eagles. Like we looked good this whole season and Nick Sirianni is just a turd. I mean, the records, the record says we were good. All right. And again, we've had this conversation before. We just don't like Nick Sirianni. So. Jonathan Wier (20:51) Hmm. That's not what anybody else would say. We were looking good this season. Maybe towards the end. Maybe again. Yeah. Yeah, I hate it. I hate him. It sucks. The fact that he is now a Super Bowl winning head coach. But you know who else is Doug Peterson. So let's not act like you have to be a great head coach to be a Super Bowl winning coach. Okay. Cody Akins (21:08) losing to him is just... But I walked into Super Bowl 55 with the expectation that we were probably going to lose. So I didn't feel as bad about that one. And we were just coming off of a Super Bowl victory, which was the first one in 50 years. So we were still kind of hyped about that. And. Huh? Jonathan Wier (21:44) We're coming off back to back wins, what are you talking about? Cody Akins (21:46) Right. Well, see though, the Chiefs had so much pressure going in to that three-peat. And this is where I want to tell people that are upset about the loss. Is it frustrating? Yes. Is it sad? Yes. But we are still witnessing something that has not been witnessed in a long time. The Chiefs were the first NFL team in 20 years to win back-to-back Super Bowls. The first NFL team ever to go back to the Super Bowl after winning back-to-back Super Bowls. Jonathan Wier (22:19) After winning back to back. First to only, the first to ever have a chance at a three beat. Yeah. Cody Akins (22:24) Yeah, so it's... Yes, we lost last night, but it's not the end of the world. There are teams out there that have never even played in a Super Bowl. There are teams that have never even played in a Conference Championship game. And the fact that we had the opportunity to play in three Super Bowls in a row and won two of them. I was reading some stats somewhere like Mahomes makes the Super Bowl. He's made the Super Bowl 71 percent. Jonathan Wier (22:33) Okay. Cody Akins (22:53) of the thesis. Jonathan Wier (22:53) Yeah, he makes the Super Bowl more often at a higher percentage than his completion rating, which is one of the highest of all time. Okay, here's the thing. I'm going to argue with you about which is worse, this loss or Tampa from this perspective. One, the Tampa thing, you're right, that maybe we should have known for... Cody Akins (22:57) at a Right. So... Jonathan Wier (23:19) The same reason here and I'm going actually make this comparison in a second. So hold on for that. We should have known, no, not the refs. So refs were not the reason we lost 31 to nine. Going into that game, the offensive line was even more banged up than this one. Going into that game, Mahomes was hurt. He had turf toe, remember? And he was literally walking, running around with his He said his feet or his toes curled up underneath him because it hurt so bad to run, right? Going into that game, I hate bringing this up, but on that Friday night before the game. Cody Akins (24:05) The Accident. Jonathan Wier (24:05) Andy Reid's son maimed a little girl in a car accident and all we saw for two days after that going into the Super Bowl was pictures of a little girl clinging to dear life. We because we didn't know going into the game whether she was going to live. She did live. Thank God. But we didn't know going into the game whether she would. And that was a dark cloud hanging over it. On top of that. Losing to Tom Brady is... You say going in of Brady's the golden boy and everything, but losing that super bowl is a much better case from a home's not being the goat for people than him losing this super bowl, losing the Jalen hurts and whatever, but losing, even though I believe the reverse, you and I mean, most people believe that because he lost to Tom Brady, now he's never going to be the goat because they went head to head and Brady beat him twice, which is bullshit because Eli Manning beat Brady. So it's, it's a dumb argument, but People made that argument. On top of that, we had won one Super Bowl in 50 years going into that game. It was, I know the whole three-peat thing was exciting, but remember, going into that Super Bowl, no team had gotten back to back in over 15 years since the Patriots had done it, right? We were going to be the first ones to do that. And who knows, maybe the next year we did the three-peat. When we lost to Tampa, I wasn't sure that Mahomes would ever win a Super Bowl again. And the reason why was because I wasn't sure Andy Reid was gonna come back. His son may have killed a little girl after leaving our stadium. I don't know how you deal with that. I don't know if you consciously can rectify that going into, and I'm sure Andy's great at compartmentalizing like any great head coach is, but I don't know that you can do that. So I was like, Andy might retire after this game. That's so bad for him. So no, I felt way worse after that Tampa Bay game, way worse. And also I feel like, Two things. I feel good coming out of this game. One, because we got to see garbage time of homes and it was fun. Scored, let's, hey, scored three touchdowns in a quarter. That's pretty damn good. And two, I know. Well, it helps when the other team isn't playing as hard. I mean, that touchdown to Worthy was awesome, but it was against backups. I'm just saying it was, it was, okay. But three touchdowns in a quarter. Cody Akins (26:31) Dude, garbage times from home should play more often in the regular season. Jonathan Wier (26:50) Haven't seen that since like 2021. So that type of offense, just seeing that again, I don't care. We've all wanted to see it for years and we got to see it last night, just for a quarter at the end of the game. The other reason I feel good coming out of the game is even, know, I honestly think Kelsey might retire. I don't know if you saw him in my homes, but they were on the sidelines crying and like hugging as bad. the other reason I feel good coming out of the game is because I know this team, I know Andy Reed's going to come back. I know my homes is going to come back pissed off and determined. And I also know Brett Veach and the way they do things, the way they do things is however, if they didn't win the super bowl, then however they lost. And the reason they lost the year before is their entire Focus the next year. And here's what I mean by that. Um, when they lost in 2021, it was because, uh, when they lost to the bangles, right? It was on a pass to Tyreek Hill that should have been caught. And instead he bopped it up into the air and it got intercepted. What did they do? They offered him a decent contract, but they said, yeah, kind of cost us the game in two ways. Cause I've also that play before halftime. Maybe he's not worth the money. What can we get for him? I guarantee you he catches that ball. He's still on the team. They would offer him anything to give him. Cause we would have gone and played the Rams and we would have beaten the Rams. The how did we lose in 2020? We lost the Tampa Bay because of the offensive line. What did they do? Went out. and got the best interior offensive line that I think any team has outside of maybe the Eagles. They got Creed, they got Trey, and they got Caliendo. No, they got Tuni. And I ain't saying this, they got Orlando Brown, who seems like actually we all bitched about him, but I would love to have him back. Cody Akins (29:09) Well that's kinda like what I was telling you last night, all the bitchin' about EB that I have done man, but I'd take him over naggy any day of the week right now. Jonathan Wier (29:20) What, okay, in 2018, we lose the AFC championship game. What costs us the AFC championship game? Defense. Bob Sutton, Bob Sutton not getting out of base. Bob Sutton not bothering to change his game plan at all. D-Ford lining up on sides, lack of discipline. We get rid of Bob Sutton, fire him into the sun and we get spags. This, that's why I'm not. Cody Akins (29:30) Yeah. Jonathan Wier (29:49) Coming out of this, I'm not worried. I was worried coming out of that Tampa Bay loss because I genuinely was like, I don't know if Andy's going to be back. Like I think that he might retire. Like that was such a human. And the reason they lost that game was, you could say the offensive line. Let's be honest. That game at Tampa, that's a Brit read game. This game, I will say no idea. I had no idea what they were doing. Cody Akins (30:12) Well, there wasn't, there was a, I'm not gonna say a dark cloud, but there was a cloud hanging over my homes. He has a grandparent that was in hospice. Jonathan Wier (30:24) That's true. And let's just, I think I texted you this last night too. between free agency, salary caps, and just the natural parody of the league where they, if you do well one season, then guess what? Next season, you're gonna have the hardest schedule possible, right? It is incredible that any team made it to a three-peat. Absolutely incredible that any team won two Super Bowls in a row and then made it to a third one. I think that the Cody Akins (30:44) Yeah. Jonathan Wier (31:00) NFL just has a natural ceiling on something like that. And the Chiefs broke their necks on it last night, tried to break through, couldn't. Just happens. There's just a natural ceiling to that. In baseball, it's winning in free agency, it's winning four World Series back to back. The Yankees had a shot at that. I think about this series all the time because it was the one time ever that the Yankees were considered the good guys. In 2001, after the September 11th attacks, right? The Yankees were going for four Pete. Now, some teams have done three Pete's in free agency. They're going for four Pete. And they lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a series that went into November because of the 9-11 attacks, because they had to delay baseball for like a week. So all that to say, I think there's just a natural tendency. within the NFL that a three-peat isn't supposed to happen. Now, I'll also say this. I love the Andre Hopkins. He said last night in his press conference, Hey, there's a lot of talk about how we get the favoritism from the refs. Anybody going to be writing about that? No? Okay, cool. Cool. There were some touchy calls. Nobody's, nobody's talking about that, right? Okay, cool. I think that that played a part. And I'm not, I'm not saying that you sort of won the game if not for the refs, but we've all watched and I've watched enough football. We've watched, we've all, if you're a chiefs fan, you've been longer, been a chiefs fan longer than Andy Reed was the coach. You've watched a lot of bad football. How many times you see holding calls when a team's down by 34 points? Never, never. And they were calling them against the chiefs. There was, and I, I knew this would happen. I predicted it earlier in the year. I didn't say what happened in the Superbowl, but I said that all this talk on social media, all this talk by other players and coaches about the refs favoring us is just game planning. It's, just gamesmanship. They're just doing it so that the refs think twice about either holding a flag or throwing a flag and giving the chiefs any benefit whatsoever. And we saw that last night. For Christ's sake, the one controversial call that Tom Brady was bitching about was AJ Brown grab, I think it was, was it Watson or was it Humphrey or McDuffie? I can't remember. But grabbing the Chiefs player by the face mask. I got an OPI call and Brady's like, come on, just let him play. Are you out of your mind? It's face masking. I mean, maybe it's that OPI, but it's definitely, you know, what is it? Unnecessary roughness. Cody Akins (33:38) Yeah, hit him in the face! Jonathan Wier (33:53) face mask penalty. You cannot grab the guy by the face mask and move his face. Like that's not a thing that's okay in the NFL. And we had to hear three minutes of bitching about it anyway. Cody Akins (34:04) And of course, it couldn't have happened at a worse time because it was a third down conversion or fourth down conversion and they converted it and of course it got called back for penalty. And dude, the internet just went ablaze. Well, here we go, here we go. Chief's getting the calls off. Like, he pushed him in that it will get called. Well, let me tell you, it should get called 100 % of the time. Jonathan Wier (34:11) Third round. It was fourth round. That's right. It was a fourth round conversion. Cody Akins (34:31) but the refs completely turned a blind eye to it on that fumble against Mahomes when he's getting shoved in the face. Jonathan Wier (34:35) Yeah, what the fuck was that? Like you can literally punch him in the face now and not get it right. And there's shot of it that I saw it literally you see the shot. The ref is standing there staring at it unless he just took a really like, these lights are really bright. God, I didn't see that. Literally got punched in the face. No call. No call. And it's always like, well he dropped the ball at that point. That doesn't matter. You can't punch. Cody Akins (34:52) You Jonathan Wier (35:05) You cannot punch anybody in the face. And then somebody else will go, well, there was holding on that play. There was holding. Okay. So then offsetting penalties. So what are we talking about? It would have been offsetting penalties then. And the play would have been redone. But instead it was a fumble for the Eagles. Look, again, refs aren't the reason at all that the Eagles won. But here's that's another reason why I feel good coming out of this game. That narrative is dead, right? Cody Akins (35:07) Yeah. No, I don't know. Nah. Jonathan Wier (35:33) No, that, no, that narrative is dead. That narrative is that nobody is going to complain about the chiefs getting all the calls next year. Right. They can't possibly not after that game, they can't possibly Hey Cody, what's going on at AkinsPCRepair.com? Cody Akins (35:46) you know, same ol' same ol'. At least that's what I'd like to say, but, you know, if you've been living under a rock lately, you didn't know that we moved. I'm still unpacking, but our shop in Belton is up and running to pretty much full capacity now. And, you know, we don't get political on this show, and I'm not about to get political, but I am going to talk about something we've all felt, and it's the inflation. We've all felt high prices, especially with eggs. But... Want to help battle inflation so actually starting today February 10th I have lowered all my screen repair pricing on our cell phones by $25 and that is an everyday deal now This is not this is not some special where you come back in March and I've jacked everything up This isn't something where I've artificially raised the price and dropped it down No based on my my pricing structure. I have started charging $25 less on screen replacements than I have been the last year and a Jonathan Wier (36:44) Bad ass. That is awesome. And that you, know you do a lot of business from screen repair and it amazes me how many, I deal with the public now, how many broken screens I see people having and just dealing with it. And I'm like, Hey, go to Cody Aikens at Aikens PC. It's just across the line in Dalton. He can fix that and make sure it doesn't break again. So yeah, $25 off screen repair. Cody Akins (37:14) Yep, yep, we've lowered it by 25 bucks on every screen replacement. We're talking iPhones, Galaxies. If it's a mobile phone, I've dropped $25 off the repair price of what they used to be. take that 25 bucks you save and buy some screen protection. We have cell phone insurance now. So yeah. Jonathan Wier (37:14) that. So while everyone else is jacking the prices up, you're actually leaving them alone and dropping them. Yeah. Take that 25 bucks embedded on the chiefs to win the opening game. I don't know what the props are right now, but I guarantee you probably get the best price before, before the draft and before a combine and all that stuff. Yeah. Get your 25 bucks in right now. All Go to my computer guy, Cody Akins at Akins, PC repair.com in Belton, Missouri. That's Akins PC repair.com. So here's some, I was thinking about this last night, some comparisons between the 2020 team that lost to Tampa and the 20, 24 team that lost to Philadelphia. You want to hear him? Okay. In that 2020 season, just as the season. Cody Akins (38:15) Sure. Jonathan Wier (38:20) We rested our starters. We had the one seed and we rested our starters and got the crap beat out of us by a divisional rival, though that's not a coincidence because you always on the season against a divisional rival, against a divisional rival in both seasons, our O line was banged up going into the game. Right. And both times, who do we beat going into the Superbowl? Yeah. You know what it is? It's the absolute stench. Cody Akins (38:45) bills Jonathan Wier (38:50) the karmic stench of the Bill's curse. It sticks to him. It will stick to you and then you can't help it, but blow the Super Bowl. It's almost like the Bills, even after two weeks, you're playing them and you're like, oh God, now it's all over me. The four losses in the 90s, it's all over me now. That's what happened. Hmm? Who? Cody Akins (39:14) You know who else we can blame? You know who else we can blame? There's a lowest common denominator in both those Super Bowl losses, even though a lot of people don't realize it. That asshole by the name of Tom Brady. He was at both games! I mean... Jonathan Wier (39:27) I know. Yeah. Yeah. Actually, I don't think he's a bad announcer. don't have a problem with Brady. I actually kind of like him in the booth. I'm not a Brady fan. I'm not, but I'm just saying, I don't think he's that bad. I just like being fair to people. Coming from broadcasting, I understand the pressure of doing that correctly in live time. I thought he was fine last night. Honestly, the thing that was annoying me the most about the announcer is when we were down 34 to six at one point and they're like, is the fourth quarter guys like shut up this isn't gonna happen. want you stop giving me hope. That's like that's like literally you're on your deathbed. The monitor is starting to flatline and they're like, hey, you know, they're they're working on cures for this all the time. You never know what might happen. What's that beeping noise? So yeah, I mean, it was a fun season. I'm not gonna lie. I enjoyed being, I felt like the, you know, most optimistic chiefs fan of, of anybody. Cause everyone else was so frustrated with how they were winning close games. So many other podcasters were just spending all the time. It's like, remember after the Browns game, everybody complaining about them. And I was like, are, why are we complaining about a game where we got like six turnovers? Like, I think that's awesome. Cause the offense didn't produce very well. Okay. Well my homes were injured his ankles. So I don't really, yeah. And here's the other thing. I'll end on this question. We'll end on this question. at 38 minutes right now. I'll end on this question. If they retool in the off season, they find a good left tackle, say Kelsey decides, I'm gonna come back for one more. And really Taylor was like, hey, you're not gonna embarrass me like that again. You're getting in shape, buddy. If they go back to the Super Bowl next year and they win, say they play the Eagles, that'd be amazing, and they win, and say they blow the doors off of the team finally. Would that make up for this loss? I think it would. Yeah, because again, I feel like not getting the three Pete is like, I was searching for Bigfoot and I didn't find him. I thought I saw him, but it was just, you know, just my dad with his shirt off. He has a hairy back. You know, I just feel it's like mythical. It's falling short of that is not anything to be ashamed of. So I think that, you know, Cody Akins (41:55) It goes against the Eagles? Absolutely. Jonathan Wier (42:25) Not getting that, it's not that big a deal. Getting to four Super Bowls and winning three out of four, I think the dynasty, if they can do that, I know, I'm not, you know, I have hopes that they will. I think if any team could do it, they could do it. If any quarterback could do it, my homes can do it. I think every year, you know, we go into the off season going, what's the team even going to look like next year? And then we go into the season and go like, God damn, look at this team. This is going to be a great team. I don't think that we've ever gone into a season, even in 2022, when they're like, well, we don't have Tyreek anymore, but we got Juju and, um, I don't know the Skymore guy, whatever, but, uh, yeah, Juju. And I think Clyde Edwards, Alair might be kind of good and They ended up having a great offense that year. They were the number one offense in football that year. I just, trust this front office to fix it. And I trust this team more than any other team to make it back to the Super Bowl next year. And if they do, I think that we'll look at this and go, yeah, that's right. We went to four Super Bowls in a row when we lost one. Three and one. Is that anything to be ashamed of? No. And that's the luxury that we have as Chiefs fans right now that no other team has. Cody Akins (43:46) Nope. Well, let's be real, man. Three and two in the Super Bowl. Is that anything to be ashamed of? That's five Super Bowls you've been to. Jonathan Wier (44:02) No I mean, would you or would you not be shocked? Or would you be shocked if they went to the Super Bowl next year? No, nobody would. Would you be shocked if they won the Super Bowl next year? No, nobody would. Would you be shocked if Mahomes has the same kind of season next year as he had in 2022? Absolutely not. So what's there to be sad about? Again, after we lost to Tampa, I was like, I have no idea what next year is gonna look like. I have no idea. We don't have an offensive line. Cody Akins (44:17) No! Jonathan Wier (44:33) Tyreek and Kelsey actually had a good game in the Superbowl in 2020, but Tyreek was terrible. Nobody could catch the ball. Mahomes is hurt and Andy Reid's life is in tatters. I don't know what we're going to do. I was seriously at the end of that going, is Eric Vienneme going to be the head coach next year? I can't take that. think I can take that. So anyway, I like Matt Nagy, but they... They need, they need to get rid of them. And I'm not even saying it's his fault. They just, they need to shake things up. They need some fresh blood. They need some new ideas. They need somebody, and you know, as Reed is getting older, it probably wouldn't hurt to have somebody with some newer ideas, some fresher ideas to come in and maybe challenge them a little bit. read a great article in Sports Illustrated about how the play calling works with the Chiefs. And basically it's Andy making like the call. And then like just basically Andy going, I want that. And then Nagy's job is to kind of put the ingredients together and hand it to my homes. So that that's, that's kind of how it works is it's almost like Andy is the diner. Nagy is the, chef and then my homes is the waiter. Yeah. So chef. Yeah. Cody Akins (45:50) He's the sous chef. Nagy's the sous chef and my home's the head cook. Jonathan Wier (45:58) So anyway, it's going to be great. It's going to be a great off season. And here's the other thing. I never looked forward more forward to the beginning of an NFL season as I did to the beginning of the 2022 season. don't know about you, but I could not. I was so excited. Why? Because revenge. Because let's go out there and kick some ass and prove that we're still the best team in football. Because you, if you win the Super Bowl, have nothing to prove anymore. We're going to do it. All right. Love you guys. Bye. Hey Cody, what's going on at AkinsPCRepair.com? Cody Akins (46:32) you know, same ol' same ol'. At least that's what I'd like to say, but, you know, if you've been living under a rock lately, you didn't know that we moved.
