0:00 today what we're going to be working on 0:03 is discovering what is actually holding 0:07 you 0:08 back from being confident in your sport 0:11 and your life so don't go anywhere 0:14 that's what we're going to focus on 0:16 [Music] 0:21 today hey there Tiff here from ambition 0:25 habits welcome to today's episode so 0:28 that's exactly right what we going to be 0:30 working on today is actually 0:32 uncovering what is actually going on for 0:35 you with that lack of confidence and 0:37 then once we've discovered on what's 0:40 going on for you then we'll develop some 0:42 strategies on what we can do to actually 0:44 build 0:46 confidence so what actually is a lack of 0:50 confidence well what I really believe a 0:53 lack of confidence is really a lack of 0:55 belief in yourself in whatever it is 0:59 that you're doing so you might not be 1:02 confident in general day life so that 1:07 really means is that you really 1:09 black any um lack sorry black lack any 1:12 belief in yourself um in everyday life 1:16 you may think that you're not good 1:18 enough at anything you may feel like a 1:20 failure in things you may feel like 1:22 you're not as good as someone else and 1:24 you know have that 1:26 comparison um thing where you're you 1:29 know compare in yourself to other people 1:32 um that can actually you know filter 1:35 through everything that you do so I find 1:37 that in life if you tend to have a lack 1:40 of confidence is really a lack of belief 1:43 in you which then filters into other 1:45 things like you have a lack of belief 1:47 whether you're able to perform in sport 1:49 you have a lack of belief of whether 1:51 you're able to perform well in your work 1:54 you have a lack of belief in whether you 1:57 can um you know uh 2:00 do General things like you know training 2:03 at the gym exercising working in the 2:05 garden I'm not good enough at anything 2:07 you know I don't you know those 2:10 kinds of things of that lack of belief 2:12 is really what it is what then 2:14 affects yourself confidence because when 2:17 you have a lack of belief in yourself 2:20 that means you don't trust yourself that 2:22 means that you don't feel that you're 2:24 good enough at anything that means that 2:27 you're not living up to what you think 2:29 you're expectation should be of 2:31 yourself that means that you're not as 2:34 good as what someone else is that means 2:38 that you're not good in any other skills 2:41 that you perform so really if we really 2:45 look at like a lack of confidence it's 2:48 really that lack of belief in yourself 2:51 and that can really stem from things 2:53 that has actually happened in your life 2:56 growing up believe it or not so I went 2:59 and participated in a course 3:01 number of years ago CU I wanted to 3:03 discover what was holding me back in my 3:05 sport as I was getting older because 3:08 when I was playing tennis as a junior an 3:11 early adult and so on you know I had a 3:14 lack of belief in me I didn't trust 3:16 myself I didn't think I was good enough 3:18 I had fear of failure um so there was a 3:20 lot of fears that I'd never be good 3:22 enough and so that filtered out into 3:26 everything else that I did in life so 3:28 later on when I discovered that it was 3:30 like what was going on in here that held 3:32 me back I went and did a participated in 3:34 a course and this course that we um 3:37 were participating in it was about 3:39 stripping back the layers because what 3:40 actually happens is over time and 3:43 life does that to us and experiences 3:45 does that to us we build up layers so 3:49 what we're actually doing is um 3:51 stripping back the layers and really 3:53 what I discovered was that um my lack of 3:55 belief came from like fear of failure um 4:00 fear of not being good enough and also 4:03 having this bar I used to blame my 4:04 mother I love my mother to bits but I 4:07 used to blame my mother growing up that 4:09 I could never reach this level like this 4:11 bar I always felt like she had this bar 4:13 set for me and that I could never reach 4:15 this bar and it wasn't her at all it was 4:18 me it was me having this bar feeling 4:21 like that I could never reach this bar 4:23 this level of success and so what I saw 4:25 that I should have been able to and I 4:28 could never get there so um the thing 4:31 with regards to what we're going to be 4:33 focusing on today is then discovering 4:36 what is that that's actually 4:38 holding us back from moving forward 4:40 because if you're aware of it or not 4:43 it's actually a lot of it is to do with 4:45 what's happened to you over time your 4:48 beliefs as you were growing up things 4:50 happened as to you as a child and then 4:52 you and I yeah I'm not good enough oh 4:54 yeah I'll never make it yeah see um such 4:57 and such is better than me or there 4:59 could be comments you know um you've 5:01 heard from other people friends could 5:04 have been adults and so on oh yeah 5:06 they're right yeah I'm never going to 5:07 amount to anything and then over time 5:10 there's been experiences as you've gone 5:12 into um teenagerhood when you're quite 5:14 vulnerable you know things were said to 5:16 you and because you're feeling a bit 5:18 vulnerable anyway certain comments that 5:21 are made just reinforces what your 5:23 thinking is that in that sense that 5:25 you're not good enough or you're fearing 5:27 of making a mistake and having that fear 5:30 of failure and then that filters in 5:32 again through to early adulthood and 5:34 that process happens again someone says 5:37 something You're vulnerable in that mode 5:39 anyway in that 5:40 mindset and that just reaffirms to you 5:43 yeah I'm not good enough now the thing 5:44 is like it's all about perception 5:46 anyway but over time whether you've 5:49 realized it or not your perceptions have 5:51 been you know that I'm not good enough 5:53 or I have this fear of failure or um I'm 5:56 never going to reach this level of 5:58 expectation that I have myself or 6:00 someone else puts on me or whatever that 6:02 thing is so those are the things that 6:05 you can find that actually have been the 6:07 things that have been holding you back 6:09 so the thing that I discovered was two 6:12 things for me one was that fear of 6:14 failure I was terrified of failing 6:17 terrified of never being good enough um 6:20 and that was actually the second thing 6:21 was terrified of never being good enough 6:23 and so when I didn't perform in my sport 6:26 like when I was playing tennis if I 6:27 didn't win a match that reaffirmed to me 6:29 yeah you're never going to be good 6:31 enough right or oh that would be right 6:33 of course you fail cuz you're just not 6:35 good enough that kind of kind of thing 6:36 so that's started to filter through to 6:38 my teenage years and through to my early 6:41 adulthood so then obviously I've been 6:44 working on that ever since uh once I 6:46 discovered what that was so that's what 6:47 we're going to be looking at today I'm 6:49 going to share with you um an Insight 6:52 from my book and an exercise from my 6:55 from my book called Focus how to reach a 6:56 potential in sport business and life 6:58 we're just going to work through um a 7:00 part of a chapter in that and then 7:02 you're going to go off and do that 7:03 exercise and then um we'll see what you 7:06 come up with okay so that's my book 7:09 Focus how to reach potential in sport 7:11 business and life it's really based 7:14 around um my lessons learn from sport 7:17 but I'm we're going to go into this this 7:20 chapter um and uh in this particular 7:23 chapter I'll just tell you what chapter 7:24 we're actually going into because if you 7:26 end up having to purchase a copy of this 7:29 book uh you may want to go through this 7:32 so the chap we're actually going through 7:34 the f um one of the pages in chapter one 7:38 going after your ultimate dream okay and 7:41 it's actually on page 26 so um this is 7:45 what we're actually going to be looking 7:46 at the seven level wise so I'm just 7:49 going to read this out to you and then 7:50 we're going to work through an exercise 7:52 in this book so what are the seven level 7:55 y's the seven level y's are very 7:57 powerful as they identified by how you 8:00 think and feel at your core about what 8:02 you are about to embark on I discovered 8:06 this questioning through a book I read 8:07 called millionaire success Habits by 8:09 Dean 8:10 graziosi when I did this questioning of 8:13 myself it really uncovered that at my 8:16 core I felt like I wasn't good enough 8:19 and that was this feeling stem back to 8:22 when I was playing a tennis tournament 8:24 when I was about 10 years old I remember 8:27 it clearly I said to myself what if I 8:31 give it my all I try as hard as I can 8:34 and I still lose it will prove that I am 8:38 not good 8:39 enough I carried that deep feeling in my 8:42 core from that moment I wasn't aware of 8:45 what I was instilling at the time how 8:47 are you supposed to know that when 8:49 you're a kid but from that moment it did 8:52 affect every decision I made at a 8:55 subconscious 8:57 level when I did lose tennis matches I 9:01 could justify losing by saying that I 9:03 didn't try that's why I lost but really 9:07 what was happening deep within was that 9:10 I was terrified of losing if I lost that 9:13 meant I was a 9:15 failure if I was a failure then I wasn't 9:18 good enough and little did I know it at 9:21 the time I was planting a seed that will 9:23 hold me back from everything I wanted in 9:25 my 9:27 life in hindsight I actually achieved 9:30 quite a lot I represented the school in 9:33 every sports team I ever tried out for I 9:35 had the opportunity to play professional 9:37 tennis I got a University degree 9:40 established three successful businesses 9:42 became a qualified tennis Sport and golf 9:45 coach plus played golf off scratch I 9:48 achieved all of that with a deep-seated 9:50 belief that I wasn't good enough imagine 9:53 what I could have accomplished had I 9:56 believed I was good 9:57 enough okay so that's what we're looking 10:00 at with the seven level wise so what 10:02 we're going to be doing now is we're 10:04 going to look at your seven level wise 10:06 and I'm going to talk you through that 10:07 so we're going to go through three 10:09 questions so it's time to get out the 10:12 journal and work through this exercise 10:14 so if you have a notebook grab it out 10:16 we're going to write down these 10:17 questions I'm going to ask you these and 10:20 then we're going to go through a process 10:22 okay so number one ask yourself why do I 10:26 want to achieve this Ultimate Dream 10:28 write down your answer so we want to be 10:30 looking at is what is that ambition that 10:33 you have that you'd like to accomplish 10:35 so what kind of what sport are you 10:38 actually participating in what level are 10:40 you at are you beginning are you wanting 10:42 to um go to a particular level in that 10:45 sport doesn't matter how old you are 10:47 okay I'm 54 so I've got all these still 10:51 these big aspirations to I'm planning on 10:54 going to the Commonwealth Games I'm 10:55 going to win a gold medal you'll see but 10:58 I don't want you to be limited by your 11:00 age okay so it doesn't matter if you're 11:02 20 50 70 80 more you still have dreams 11:08 okay you still have those dreams that 11:09 you want to accomplish so what we want 11:11 to look at is what why do I want to 11:14 achieve this Ultimate Dream okay what is 11:16 the ambition for that number two write 11:19 your answer oh sorry number two with 11:23 your answer you will find reasons why 11:25 you want to achieve this dream so with 11:29 those reasons ask the question why okay 11:33 so that's the second part of this 11:35 exercise number three is each time you 11:39 explain the reasons why ask the question 11:42 again 11:44 why do this until you have the question 11:47 why seven times okay so we're going to 11:50 work through this process so we want to 11:52 ask why we want to accomplish this uh 11:54 Ultimate Dream what the ambition is 11:56 around that with that answer you want to 12:00 ask yourself why do I want to accomplish 12:02 this and then what you'll start doing is 12:04 you'll start asking your yourself 12:05 questions why do I want to achieve this 12:08 and so on as we go through the deeper 12:09 levels so I'm going to give you an 12:11 example here so why do I want to achieve 12:15 this Ultimate Dream so this is a dream 12:18 that I had a while 12:19 ago my ultimate dream is to have an 12:22 academy that is designed to help Young 12:24 Girls teenage girls and women achieve 12:26 their goals and dreams it will help them 12:29 to work on their mindset and show them 12:32 that nothing can hold them back it will 12:35 be designed to show them the steps and 12:36 the systems that they need in place to 12:38 go after their ultimate goal in life so 12:42 then we ask the question why why do we 12:44 want to accomplish this I want to do 12:47 this because I know what it is like to 12:49 not know how to get that dream that I so 12:52 badly wanted so over the years I've 12:55 learned systems and structures plus I 12:58 have the EXP experience of life to teach 13:01 others how to get there it is important 13:03 to me to guide my nieces through 13:06 their lives too so that they can grow up 13:08 to be confident women why do I want this 13:11 to happen because I wish I'd had someone 13:14 to show me the way when I was a teenager 13:18 to show me how to set goals how to 13:20 reverse engineer them how to 13:23 structure my days to set myself up for 13:25 Success what type of questions to ask 13:28 myself how to control my emotions and 13:30 what to do when I hit a wall a 13:33 barrier why do I want to do that 13:37 because I felt lost and frustrated as a 13:40 teenager and as an adult I didn't 13:42 achieve my Ultimate Dream and just fell 13:44 into things along the way I felt as that 13:47 I was always trying to reinvent myself 13:49 into something because I had always let 13:52 myself 13:53 down why do I want to do that I had 13:56 let myself down because I didn't a my 13:59 dream of becoming the number one tennis 14:01 player in the world why did I why 14:04 did I let myself down I didn't become 14:08 the number one tennis player in the 14:09 world because I didn't try hard enough 14:11 to figure out how to get there why was 14:14 that why didn't I figure out hard enough 14:16 how to get there because I didn't 14:18 believe in myself and I thought I wasn't 14:20 good 14:21 enough right so that's where it came 14:23 from was that I actually didn't believe 14:26 in myself and I didn't think I was good 14:27 enough 14:31 so that's an example and that's an um my 14:34 original inability to achieve my 14:37 dream to 14:38 [Music] 14:40 um not believing in me okay and 14:43 therefore I wasn't good enough so 14:44 therefore all those decisions that I 14:46 actually made from that moment was the 14:49 foundation of the idea that I wasn't 14:51 good enough so that's what we're going 14:53 to be working through today we want to 14:55 um understand actually what's actually 14:58 going on up in here so we want to 15:00 go through those exercises okay so again 15:03 I'll just quickly read out those um uh 15:06 what you've got to do that process all 15:08 right so number one is ask yourself what 15:10 do I want to achieve in this Ultimate 15:12 Dream write down your answer number two 15:15 with your answer you'll find reasons why 15:18 you want to achieve this dream with 15:21 those reasons ask yourself the question 15:24 why okay so as we go down through those 15:26 levels we keep going why do I want to 15:27 achieve this why do I want to achieve 15:29 this and three each time you explain the 15:32 reasons why ask the question again why 15:35 do this until you have done it seven 15:38 times and let's see what you come up 15:40 with this answer so just to finish off 15:42 this chapter the last paragraph of this 15:45 chapter I just talk about now that you 15:47 have gone deeper into your core in order 15:50 for you to understand yourself better 15:53 and what decisions you are going to make 15:55 from this point forward once you 15:58 understand what is much deeper inside 16:01 you are more aware okay and that's what 16:03 we're focusing on we're focusing on 16:05 those awareness's once you are more 16:08 aware you will make better 16:10 decisions once you make better decisions 16:14 you will have better results once you 16:16 have better results there will be no 16:19 stopping you and no holding you back 16:21 okay awareness equals better results so 16:25 that's what we're going to be focusing 16:26 on today we're going to go through that 16:27 seven level y Pro process because we 16:29 want to understand what's actually 16:31 holding us back why we're lacking 16:33 confidence within um and like you might 16:36 find that there's lack of belief and 16:39 um you know not feeling that you were 16:41 good enough because of series of events 16:42 that happened to you in in your life so 16:45 let's see if we can uncover that first 16:47
