Episode 122 — Luke 7:27–35 — Wisdom Vindicated by Her Children Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s wonderful to be here with you today.
Today is May 2. Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin. Slow Down You are stepping into a sacred space with the intent of meeting with Jesus.
He wants to meet with you and spend time with you. Take this moment to slow down, quiet your mind, and prepare your heart to connect with Him. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it. As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, You are wisdom itself.” As you exhale, pray: “Let my life be evidence of Your truth.” Do this three times, then rest in His presence. Read John is the man to whom the Scriptures refer when they say, ‘Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way before you.’ I tell you, of all who have ever lived, none is greater than John. Yet even the least person in the Kingdom of God is greater than he is!” When they heard this, all the people—even the tax collectors—agreed that God’s way was right,* for they had been baptized by John. But the Pharisees and experts in religious law rejected God’s plan for them, for they had refused John’s baptism. “To what can I compare the people of this generation?” Jesus asked. “How can I describe them? They are like children playing a game in the public square. They complain to their friends, ‘We played wedding songs, and you didn’t dance, so we played funeral songs, and you didn’t weep.’ For John the Baptist didn’t spend his time eating bread or drinking wine, and you say, ‘He’s possessed by a demon.’ The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by the lives of those who follow it.”  (Luke 7:27–35, NLT) Notice What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment. Reread Hear these words again, and notice the contrast Luke draws: those who received John’s baptism recognized God’s plan — and those who refused it couldn’t see what was right in front of them. Meditate Luke’s version of this teaching ends with a slightly different phrase than Matthew’s: wisdom is shown to be right by the lives of those who follow it. The proof of wisdom isn’t argument — it’s fruit. It’s the transformed lives of the people who received what God was offering and said yes. The tax collectors and sinners — the ones everyone had written off — heard John and responded. They were baptized. They came to Jesus. And their changed lives became the vindication of the wisdom they had received. The Pharisees, meanwhile, had refused. Not because they lacked information — they had more theological knowledge than almost anyone. But they had rejected the posture that both John and Jesus required: humility, repentance, and the willingness to be led somewhere new. There is something quietly stunning here. The people the religious establishment had dismissed as unworthy became the very proof that God’s wisdom was right. Their lives — their hunger, their honesty, their willingness to be changed — spoke louder than any argument. Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Is my life becoming evidence that God’s wisdom is right — or have I received the truth without letting it actually transform me? Respond Jesus, make me someone whose life says yes to You in ways that others can see. Exercise The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits. Habit: Living Proof
— Ask God to Make Your Life a Visible Expression of His Wisdom Today’s habit is a prayer of availability: ask God specifically to use your life this week as visible evidence of His wisdom and grace — through one relationship, one conversation, or one choice that others might notice. You don’t need to announce it. You don’t need to perform it. Just make yourself available: “Lord, let my life speak today. Use me as proof that Your way is right and good.” Then pay attention to the moments He gives you. A conversation where you respond with unexpected patience. A choice where you act with integrity when no one would have known otherwise. A relationship where you show up with love that doesn’t make sense apart from God. Wisdom is vindicated by her children. Be one of them today. I have one ask of you before you go, could you please share this podcast with one person today? One person at a time will grow this podcast to help more people walk with Jesus. That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard…share it and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
