Episode 163 — John 6:35–40 — I Am the Bread of Life Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s amazing to be here with you today.
Today is June 12. Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin. Slow Down Jesus is glad you’re here. He longs to spend time with you. He loves you deeply and wants to be in your presence.
Take a moment to pause, quiet your mind, and turn your attention toward Him. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, You are the bread of life.” As you exhale, pray: “I come to You — hungry and trusting.” Do this three times, then rest in silence. Read Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me. However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them. For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.  And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.”   (John 6:35–40, NLT) Notice What hits you most?
Is there a phrase that jumps out to you?
Hold that phrase gently before the Lord. Reread Hear these words again — especially the promise Jesus makes to everyone who comes to Him and believes in Him.. Meditate I am the bread of life. This is one of the seven great I AM declarations in John’s Gospel — and it lands directly in the middle of a conversation about hunger and provision and what it means to truly be fed. Jesus makes two promises in this passage that deserve to be held slowly. First: whoever comes to Me will never go hungry. Second: whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty. These are not promises about physical food and drink. They are promises about the deepest human need — the longing for meaning, for belonging, for life that doesn’t run dry. And then Jesus says something that is among the most comforting words in all of Scripture: All those the Father gives Me will come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will never reject them. I will never reject them. Not — I will receive you if you are good enough. Not — I will keep you if you perform well enough. Whoever comes — I will never drive away. The door is not just open. It is guaranteed not to close on you. And the will of the Father, Jesus says, is that He should lose none of those given to Him — but raise them all up at the last day. Your security in Jesus is not contingent on your grip on Him. It is contingent on His grip on you. Take a few moments to reflect on this question: Am I truly coming to Jesus to be fed — or am I trying to feed myself on things that cannot satisfy? And do I believe that when I come to Him, He will never turn me away? Respond Jesus, You are the bread of life — I come to You today. Feed me with Yourself — and let me be satisfied in You alone.. Exercise The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits. Habit: Coming to Jesus
Today’s habit is a practice of reorientation: identify one thing you have been turning to for satisfaction, comfort, or meaning that ultimately leaves you empty — and today, every time you feel the pull toward it, turn to Jesus instead. It might be food, social media, entertainment, approval, busyness, or any number of other things that promise to satisfy but cannot deliver. You are not giving it up forever today — you are simply practicing the turn: away from what doesn’t satisfy, toward the One who does. Each time you make the turn, pray: “Jesus, You are the bread of life. I come to You. Feed me with what only You can give.” I have one ask of you before you go, would you please consider supporting this podcast? Click the support the podcast link and give a simple gift. That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard…share it and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
