Episode 73 — John 5:39–40 — Coming to Jesus Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s So cool to be here with you today.
Today is March 14. Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin. Slow Down Jesus is glad you’re here. He longs to spend time with you. He loves you deeply and wants to be in your presence.
Take a moment to pause, quiet your mind, and turn your attention toward Him. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, draw me to You.”
As you exhale, pray: “Free me from empty striving.” Do this three times, then rest in silence. Read “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.  (John 5:39–40, NLT) Notice What hits you most?
Is there a phrase that jumps out to you?
Hold that phrase gently before the Lord. Reread Hear the passage again, listening for what Jesus wants you to hear from him. Meditate Jesus speaks to people who know their Bibles well. They search the Scriptures, thinking that in the words themselves they find eternal life. But they’re missing the Person the Scriptures point to. They’re willing to study but not to come. Willing to analyze but not to receive. Jesus makes it clear: the point of Scripture is to lead us to Him, the Source of life. It’s possible to be around the Bible and still resist Jesus’ offer of real, living relationship. Take a few moments to reflect on this question: In my own life, where am I more comfortable with information about Jesus than actually coming to Him to receive life? Respond Jesus, thank You for Scripture that points me to You.
Guard me from treating the Bible as an end in itself.
Teach me to come to You—to trust You, talk with You, and receive life from You. Exercise The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits. Habit: Share Today’s Truth
Today, choose one verse or truth from John 5:39–40 that grips you.
Share it with a friend, family member, or small group—by text, in person, or online—and briefly say what it means to you.
As you share, silently pray: “Jesus, use this to draw us closer to You, not just to information about You.” That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard… and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
