Episode 236 — John 10:31–33 — Stone’s Throw Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s amazing to be here with you today.
Today is August 31. Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin. Slow Down Jesus is here.
He’s sitting in your favorite spot, waiting for you to join Him. You have a million things on your mind that need your attention, but right now it’s time to be with Jesus. Set those things aside, relax, and calm your body. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it. As you inhale, whisper: "Jesus, you have done good works.” As you exhale, pray: “Thank You.” Do this three times, then rest in His presence. Read Once again the people picked up stones to kill him. Jesus said, “At my Father’s direction I have done many good works. For which one are you going to stone me?” They replied, “We’re stoning you not for any good work, but for blasphemy! You, a mere man, claim to be God.” (John 10:31–33, NLT) Notice What jumps off the page to you in this passage? Is there a word or phrase that stops you in your tracks? Hold it before the Lord for a moment. Reread Hear this story again — and notice the tension building as Jesus reveals who He truly is. Meditate "For which one are you going to stone me?" It's one of the most striking questions Jesus ever asks. The crowd has picked up stones — again. And Jesus doesn't run. He doesn't hide. He stands there and asks them, calmly, which of His good works has earned this response. The answer reveals everything: "We're not stoning you for any good work. We're stoning you for blasphemy. You, a mere man, claim to be God." They understood exactly what He was claiming. That's what makes this moment so significant. Jesus wasn't being misunderstood. He wasn't speaking in riddles that they misinterpreted. They heard Him clearly — and they rejected Him clearly. He claimed to be God. They believed He was merely a man. And that gap — between who Jesus claimed to be and who they were willing to accept — was the stone's throw that divided everything. This is still the central question of human history. Is He who He claimed to be? The crowd said no. They picked up stones. But you're here. You've been walking through the Gospels for 236 days. You've heard His teaching. You've seen His works. You've watched Him heal the sick, raise the dead, forgive sinners, and face death without flinching. And now He asks you the same question He's been asking all along: Who do you say that I am? Who do you say He is? Because the answer to that question changes everything about how you live, what you fear, what you hope for, and where you place your trust. Take a few moments to sit with this question: Have I truly accepted Jesus as God — not just as a good teacher or a moral example, but as the living God who came in the flesh? Respond Jesus, You are God. You are the living God who came in the flesh, who did good works at the Father's direction, who claimed to be one with the Father — and proved it. I accept You. I worship You. You are King. Exercise The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits. Habit: Sitting With I AM Today's habit is a contemplative practice: set three reminders on your phone today — morning, midday, and afternoon — with a simple prompt: I AM. When each reminder goes off, stop for sixty seconds. Don't scroll. Don't rush. Just whisper the name: "I AM." Let it land. Let its weight settle over you. You can sit with it. You can let it change you. You can let the eternal I AM be the foundation your day is built on. Whisper His name today. And let it be enough. I have two asks of you before you go, could you please share this podcast with one person today and check out the review of this podcast on Elevate Society? That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard…share it and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus
