Hello mystery contestant would you care to introduce yourself tell us who it is that you are and what is it that you do okay. 02:02.82 Sam Are. 02:09.78 Sam Hi ah, thanks for having me on here. Ah I'm Sam Rusk I'm a tattoo and an illustrator and I like to play d and d. 02:21.44 sidekqpodcast Awesome! Yes I think I had seen some of your work on Twitter and you know as an owner of 2 pieces of tattoo art on my skin. You know I don't want to come off as a total new but the style that you tend to draw at least the critical art. Ah. Critical role artwork that I see is is that that's kind of like the sailor jerry americana eque sort of ah style of design right. 02:44.86 Sam Um, yeah, very ah American traditional inspired. Ah I like to call it um pop traditional or it has more of a a murty pop culture reference but still the bolt. 02:53.16 sidekqpodcast Okay. 03:00.41 sidekqpodcast Okay, yeah, because yeah, because every because I think the one ah tweet that I've seen pinned is it looks like a big like a big huge shit. But then of course it's got the ukatoa. Eyes going throughout it So you're like wait a minute that does that doesn't look like a normal tattoo like I've seen before. 03:13.34 Sam Um. 03:15.87 Sam Um, yeah, yeah I like the ah the if you know you know, kind of thing. Otherwise it looks like a traditional classic tattoo. 03:24.98 sidekqpodcast Awesome and for you what what came first. The illustrating the tattooing because you know my my tattoo artist that I know came into it from a whole completely different sort of angle. So I'm just kind of curious what your journey into the art tattoo. Art world was like. 03:44.96 Sam Ah, well the art world I think I've always been drawn into that. Just naturally I've always been inclined to drawing and painting as a kid and you know I think as you're encouraged to do that. You just get better. Ah, you know as you get older. But as far as tattooing i. Got interested in it when I was around like 13 or so when I kind of realized like oh my gosh you can do that you know for a living like I want to do that. Ah so I kind of pursued that a little bit and was always interested in it and then ah yeah d and d came a little later but I've always been into. Fantasy and fantasy inspired art and things like that. 04:25.61 sidekqpodcast Okay, cool. Um I was just trying to think because the time that I remember back in college when I first started with D and D was fourth edition and that was ah that was when like all the tattooing like shows were super popular on some of those Networks. So um. I Guess what I'm trying to formulat a question about is is there like a particular artist that you like to draw inspiration from that that gives you like inspiration whenever you're creating your your pieces of original artwork or maybe their critical role inspired or you know, ah another client comes to you and just says. Hey I Want this thing and you're like cool, let me go into my ah my references and you know the people that I like and you know what? what can I do that brings my creative outlook to the project. So. 05:15.69 Sam Um, Okay I yeah I I think I as my tattoo career has gone on I've been more into like going back towards the traditional. Ah um, you know Americana style like when I started I really wasn't. Ah, you know super drawn to that I kind of like liked more illustrative things and like ah a little more whimsical and then I guess I progressed as a tattooer I was like you know these are the tried and true things. They they're just classic. They they stand the test of time. So I feel like I started to. Go back to that and you know make designs more influenced by that I guess but yeah, like. 05:58.65 sidekqpodcast Okay, and I know you've alluded to it with the tattooing and the D and D so I feel like it's a pretty good segue into. Do you currently or have you ever played dungeons and dragons before. Yeah. 06:12.40 Sam Ah, yeah, ah, we me and my friends and my wife we've been playing for ah four five years now ah so ah, look a relatively new I feel like to the the d and D World ah but yeah, we play 2 campaigns that we kind of switch off. Ah, usually every other week from my wife Dm's one and then my friend ah Jose Dm's the other one. 06:35.20 sidekqpodcast And all interesting. So how is that dynamic I guess switching between the campaigns if it's like a cliffhanger and you're like oh man we have to wait like two weeks before we can come back to it. 06:44.36 Sam Um, I know it's ah it's good and terrible. Ah for the the players but I think it's it's a good break for the Dms you know so they get a little break in it to play. Um, and then you know. 06:53.69 sidekqpodcast M. 07:00.44 Sam It's not too long of a wait I feel like two weeks generally 07:04.41 sidekqpodcast It sounds better than when I started in fourth edition. It was whoever thought of a cool idea for an adventure. It was their turn to be the Dm So ah because our original dungeon master got tired was like okay I think one of you needs to come up with something so then that kind of forced us. 07:19.71 Sam Um. 07:20.30 sidekqpodcast Have to be like okay someone will think of a venture and so we rotated Dms throughout the entire group which was that was an interesting exercise as well. But I like the idea of like okay this week it's adventure a and this week okay it's adventure b and um. 07:25.17 Sam Um, walls. 07:35.40 sidekqpodcast Wonder if it helps with the the planning and the dynamics of the group as far as like when you don't have to stress about campaign a while you're playing Campaign B and maybe that helps you think of like oh well this is a lesson that we learned in Campaign B I Wonder if it's something that we could try when we go back to the other campaign or something right. 07:51.86 Sam Yeah I feel like as a player sometimes I'll you know be thinking of the other campaign you know and then like oh maybe I should try this with you know this character or you know, but yeah I think that it gives the Dms a little break and to to think about stuff. You know an an extra week. 08:09.98 sidekqpodcast Okay, and so then as you were saying ah you know within the last you know four or five years is when you started playing d and d um I guess how soon into it since you were starting to become. Part of the culture as it were a part of the hobby how long was it before either that inspired you to start designing flash or pieces and putting it up in your shop and saying hey now I do this kind of style of tattoo or. Ah, you know you started sharing your stuff maybe on Twitter and Instagram and suddenly all the nerds in the area were like well this looks cool. You need to be the one that tattoos it on me. So. 08:43.19 Sam Um, yeah, ah, well funnily enough. My ah you know intro to D and D was from a client who I was doing a D and D tattoo for so we did like a little. 08:53.95 sidekqpodcast Okay, okay. 08:57.52 Sam Like a d twenty with a little wizard hat and a wand and it was super fun and I was like ah you know I had a blast tattooing it but she's telling me about d and d and critical role and all these things and I'm like you know I never have been introduced to that before like my 12 year old self was like oh my gosh. This is so cool. But I you know never had anyone tell me about it before. Ah, so then I started watching critical role and then we started playing d d and d with our friends. Um, and then yeah of course you know like when you get stuck listening to you know the hours and hour hours and hour hours and hours of critical role I started doing flash designs based on those and. Yeah I just kind of snowballed and very quickly became ah ah either my whole personality and my career I don't know like just very no turning back. 09:45.90 sidekqpodcast I was going to say have any of the cast or crew come your way being like hey we saw the designs that you've done I want you to and blazon that on my skin as a memorial. But. 09:57.47 Sam Um, ah no, no celebrity tattoos yet. Ah I've been ah you know I've I've gotten comments from you know Matt Mercer on Twitter and Sam Riegel and like a couple you know it. 10:01.39 sidekqpodcast And. 10:13.49 Sam It's very encouraging I think that's actually like that was one of the first ah pieces I put up was the ukatoa one that's pinned on my Twitter and then Travis commented on it and I was like oh my god like it just kind of went a little crazy I'd never had any ah art piece that I made kind of get that attention before and I was like oh my gosh. 10:20.78 sidekqpodcast So. 10:32.53 Sam You know the the nerd sweat has begun all. So I think that was also a little encouraging just to see like how you know cool The D and D Community is and it's just it's just fun to you know, make art for you know. My campaign other people's campaigns, critical role. You know all that stuff. It's just been a blast. 10:51.94 sidekqpodcast Yeah, yeah, no I think ah the the tattoo art style is it's very vibrant. Um you know because in you know, ah. You might draw associations with like Vegas or you know the the west coast and the californias and I guess even to a degree on the East Coast and biker culture and all these things but as we're you know, getting now into the 2020 s it's like becoming even more ah pervasive. Ah for just. Everyone from all walks of life like even my mother and my my her mother you know had tattoos and stuff like that you know, just like oh you know, maybe get my eyebrows done and then maybe get like a nice piece here on the wrist or there elsewhere and so like yeah everyone from like you know, ah you know the baby boomers to jen. Alpha is like getting tattoos. So I mean I suppose um business is is good for you and no no shortage of ah of clients I would I would reckon. Okay. 11:51.89 Sam Um, yeah, no, it's been it's been great you know I feel like you know in the 70 s and eighty s it was very you know very very taboo and as we yeah like you said into the twenty twenty s I feel like you're kind of the rebel if you don't have a tattoo you know where it was vice birth. 12:04.47 sidekqpodcast Well, that's awesome and of course on this podcast being sidekicks and side quests. We always like to ask the questions about who happens to be your favorite sidecake or your favorite npc whether they're from. A video game or maybe 1 of your games that you play campaigning campaign b or if not maybe ah film television, literature etc and why is this character your favorite sidecake your favorite npc. 12:37.51 Sam Um, okay, ah sidekick I would have to say I mean it's the only right answer for me is ah Sam Wise Gam G is the the best sidekick ever. Um, you've probably gotten the answer before because best. 12:47.40 sidekqpodcast Yeah, oh yeah, he's a favorite. 12:55.19 Sam Ah, as far as ah, Npc I I wish I played more video games. Um, but I I have recently started replaying Ah Majora's mask ah Zelda and I I do love Skul kid ah in that game I think he's a great. 13:06.41 sidekqpodcast Okay. 13:13.50 Sam Mpc Just very mischievous and ah yeah I Just I love the little low key kind of characters like that. 13:23.16 sidekqpodcast Yeah I know zelda's not ah, a franchise ah that I'm readily familiar with I I skipped that Nintendo game I played a lot of other ones but that was that was the one I skipped but who knows maybe 1 of these days I'll get a switch and work my way through the back catalog of all the great zelda classics and. 13:28.21 Sam Are. 13:35.23 Sam Um, yeah, there you go? Yeah, that's what I've been doing replaying it on the the old Nintendo 64 ah you know, converted to the switch. It's just it's the graphics are awful. It's it's the best. 13:44.10 sidekqpodcast Um. 13:50.73 sidekqpodcast Ah, and then same thing with the side quest question. What's been one of your favorite side quests either from a video game 1 of your tabletop games movie film literature etc and why is this side quest been your favorite side. Quest. 14:06.81 Sam Um, okay, ah, definitely my most recent favorite side quest was ah so our campaign that my buddy Jose runs he has this this character in a town that we were in and ah. They were head of the city watch and they told our party that like he needed us to come right? away. There was a like commotion in a dungeon like ah something really important. So we've rushed over and like long story short. It just turned out that he wanted us to prank his buddy. Into coming out and having a drink with him and it just turned into the most like the stakes were so low and it was so silly like I think all of the players just had an absolute blast. Ah, and like after the session I remember I was like. 14:46.10 sidekqpodcast Mm. 15:00.70 Sam Jose that was the weirdest thing I've ever experienced playing d and d like it just was so out of left field and he was like yeah I just wanted like you know he was very like took a step back and just let us go crazy and he's like I wanted to just see what you guys would do in like a very low stakes. Situation and it was I I think it was it was awesome like if I were ran ah know but we almost destroyed like a whole ah like so the the character's friend was like a ah like a um. 15:21.19 sidekqpodcast You didn't set the whole town on fire in the process or anything like that. But. 15:38.69 Sam Like a scientist kind of guy who's like building these ah like robots for the the King like for for an army. Um I'm doing a really bad job at explaining but ah it was just. 15:45.19 sidekqpodcast Sure classic thing you know the Robot army for the King Of course. Yeah, so. 15:53.96 Sam Yeah, yeah, you know? Ah, but yeah, we almost destroyed his entire life's work just to have him come out and have a drink with his bud I think we gave him like an existential crisis at one point just questioning all of his life decisions and ah yeah, it was. It was really good. 16:05.67 sidekqpodcast Ah, yeah. 16:09.50 sidekqpodcast Awesome! awesome. 16:11.90 Sam I Don't know if I count as a side quest but it was ah a like a little side misadventure. 16:15.17 sidekqpodcast There We go sounds awesome to me and then we'll round out the personal interview section with the question of what are you passionate about and why. 16:28.10 Sam Um, ah okay I was I was thinking about this I I was just talking to my wife I was like okay I think I have 3 things coffee books and tattoos. And she was like why are why are those the 3 things and I was like okay so I think you know I have to have coffee in the morning. My friends know like when whenever we're on vacation Sam Eats her coffee in the morning before you talk to me so a good cold brew so that I can be awake to read the books so that I can have. The ideas for the tattoos I feel like. 17:03.00 sidekqpodcast Okay, pretty good order of operations. Yeah well wonderful. We've learned so much about Miss Sam that I think it's time we head into a segment that I like to call npc creation all right? And this. 17:16.40 Sam Are. 17:21.31 sidekqpodcast Npc creation is brought to you by you the podcast audience and our patrons from patreon so now is the time in the show where we give a shout out to our comfortable patrons and above with a loud hurrah. At the levitium platter in this demiplane in worlds beyond. Okay, so then this segment of the show is where we get to make up a character and so the question is are we going to randomly generate a character with some of the tables that I have or do you have an idea of a character and you'd like to go. Through the questions and unveil who this character is. 18:35.29 Sam Um I I thought it would be fun to basic character off of ah, an npc that we have in 1 of our home games. Ah that sounds cool to you. 18:43.82 sidekqpodcast Okay, yeah, okay, so we're just gonna go piece by piece through the questions and we'll discover who this character is okay, all right. And if you want you know if you feel like you need to spice it up a little bit. We can always you know do a random dice roll if you ah if you want some inspiration as well. But the first question we have here in the list of questions. What is the character's name. 19:05.26 Sam Um, sit up. 19:11.70 Sam Ah, so the character's name in the campaign that we have ah we we lovingly named her pumpkin lady and throughout the 20 or so sessions that she was in. Ah, never thought to ask her her name because we had just called her pumpkin lady. So I think we'll just stick with stick with pumpkin Lady. Oh. 19:32.80 sidekqpodcast Mm a mysterious figure indeed all right? and then what is the ancestry of this pumpkin lady. So. 19:41.32 Sam Um, but so the players aren't certain but I would say she's probably like an like an arch fay or something. She's definitely from a a plane that the players are not familiar with and have never. 19:59.39 sidekqpodcast Okay, interesting. So so then her Okay, so then her job or role in society it. So is so if she's an archvey but she is masquerading as a pumpkin lady so we like if we go to the town market and she's there like selling her gourds. 19:59.58 Sam Encountered someone like her before. 20:17.60 sidekqpodcast It's ah that's where we're going to find her most likely her job or role in society. 20:22.79 Sam Um, ah she's more of a ah she doesn't she has nothing to do with pumpkins. It was just the the instance that we met her was ah during a Halloween one shot and she was just very mysterious, very like ah. 20:34.46 sidekqpodcast A mm. 20:39.36 Sam Kind of spooky vibes. So one of our players. Our little halfling fighter just called her pumpkin lady I have no idea how it stuck so well. 20:49.31 sidekqpodcast So there was like so it was just the association with ah Halloween or a harvest festival. She didn't actually sell pumpkins or have pumpkin paraphernalia or anything like that that interesting. 20:55.61 Sam Um, exactly no no pumpkins to be found. Ah, actually the the name stuck so well that we one of our players thought that she had a pumpkin head the whole time but she she has no, There's no pumpkins anywhere. 21:13.14 sidekqpodcast Hm Okay, and then how old would you say this pumpkin lady is okay. 21:14.10 Sam So. 21:20.16 Sam Um, ah probably pretty ancient I I would say you know hundreds of years old. 21:28.56 sidekqpodcast Okay, pretty ancient but otherwise in her I'm assuming Humanoid disguise. Um, do you think she would just appear as like a normal adult middle aged older adult and. 21:40.61 Sam Um, probably yeah middle aged to older. 21:44.34 sidekqpodcast Okay, and let's see so if we did have I'm just circling back to the job or role in society. So the the pumpkin lady is just kind of like ah like an ironic sort of name. It seems like at this point for the character. So I'm just wondering if we're what. 22:01.81 sidekqpodcast The Npc that we're creating if we're to give her a job a role in society. What do you think that would be like when the when the when the player characters who are going to run into this character meet pumpkin lady. What is she going to be doing or what does she represent in society. 22:02.10 Sam Are. Are. 22:18.24 Sam So ah, ah her her role in the the campaign that we play. Ah, she is kind of our like the parties I dont want to like sponsors. Not the right word but ah she shows up kind of when we need her or when she needs us. And she is almost ah like overly powerful to the point where we're just ants to her but she needs jobs done so she kind of hires us for miscellaneous ah quests and like acquiring. 22:48.30 sidekqpodcast Um. 22:53.85 Sam Ah, you know things for her like teleportation spells and and things like that that she needs on this plane that she's on. 22:59.71 sidekqpodcast Interesting. Okay, so so she'll adopt whatever Humanoid Disguise fits her best. She goes by seemingly this ah nom depllore of pumpkin lady whether or not she decides to introduce pumpkins into her fashion. 23:19.16 Sam Um, what we offer are. 23:19.72 sidekqpodcast Or anything like that but she she stands as this mysterious figure who needs the help of ah adventurers and such to do her bidding. Okay, so if we're to describe her physical appearance. Ah, how are we to envision the pumpkin lady. 23:27.86 Sam Um, exactly Yes, um. 23:36.96 Sam Okay, though the way that we were introduced to her is ah she's very tall skinny um wearing very ah like thin ah not quite robes but ah. 23:53.62 Sam Ah, the Dm equated it to a a vaure track suit but make it medieval ah and ah, a hood. Ah so you can only see part of her face like her look like maybe just like her lower jaw and ah she has like a little bit of hair sticking out. 24:00.97 sidekqpodcast Mm. 24:06.79 sidekqpodcast Okay, okay. 24:12.27 Sam Um, and her hair almost looks like so like snakeheads. 24:17.00 sidekqpodcast Um, so just in the description alone I'm picking up like Morticia Adams I'm picking up the I guess the daughters of ah in the resident evil game. The ones that are like the vampire bugs or whatever. 24:23.46 Sam Um, the third. 24:33.89 sidekqpodcast Um, but then that last bit also threw in like Medusa sort of thing maybe like the Uma Thurman the Uma Thurman Medusa from the Percy Jackson movie is what I was thinking of so is that says so like a more Morticia Adams sort of a figure. 24:35.72 Sam Um, yeah, will survive. 24:44.50 Sam Um, okay, yeah, yeah I like that. Um. 24:52.63 sidekqpodcast But yet like with the the hint of a medusa but didn't actually say it was a medusa just as a Archfey sort of being. 24:58.46 Sam Um, no it? Well yeah, never clarified but I get kind of like like arch fay vibes of ah just the mischievousness and you know very gray Morals just has her own her own. Ah. 25:14.36 sidekqpodcast Um, okay, and is there any type of Pumpkin Imagery present for or does she just drop like. 25:16.41 Sam Needs in mind. Are. 25:26.98 sidekqpodcast Oh you can call me the pumpkin lady or something like that she steps like into a pumpkin carriage and disappears or something. So. 25:33.74 Sam Um, yeah, Ah, yeah, maybe maybe she could have like little like pumpkiny jewelry or like very subtle like yeah I don't know we can. We can even name her something else like you said you had some little. Ah. With a role for a name. Do you have a name. Ah one call the rebranding a pump media. All right. 25:52.48 sidekqpodcast Oh yeah, sure if you if you like this could be like the real name like her her ah her. Yeah, okay so if you need to name? Let's roll a D twenty. 26:14.73 sidekqpodcast And what did you roll? ah. 26:16.76 Sam Um, oh me I'm so sorry. Um I do advice and we see so. 26:28.62 Sam Um I wasn't prepared with my dice. Okay there we go. That's an 18 26:35.79 sidekqpodcast 18 ah, okay, well this answer is provided by previous guest Gary Barker Sun rivers master if you think that is an interesting name to use. Okay. 26:42.68 Sam Um I I like it. 26:50.32 sidekqpodcast So her code name or her her title that maybe she gives out to people is the pumpkin lady but in actuality she is the arch fay known as Sun Rivers master okay all right, very cool. So with that name does that give you like any other. 27:02.64 Sam Um I like it. 27:09.90 sidekqpodcast Hints or ideas as to how she might appear outside of her particular guise she might use. 27:18.54 Sam Um, um I don't know I Maybe maybe when she's not in like her Super mysterious. Ah Hooded Outfit. Ah, maybe something more like ah like fall colors like like ah you know Golden Rods things like that. 27:41.93 sidekqpodcast So kind of like loft warrioran elven sort of a figure. Okay, yeah, oh that that's like very start like yeah like Halloween it's like Halloween one second and then it's like Thanksgiving the next. 27:49.20 Sam Um, and we go Yeah there you go. 27:58.96 Sam Um, yeah, yeah, October thirty first to November first and 28:00.85 sidekqpodcast Yeah, there we go. Okay, interesting. Okay I like the vibe if you had to describe Sun Rivers masters a k a the pumpkin lady with 3 adjectives what 3 adjectives would you use. 28:15.94 Sam Um, oh um, okay, mischievous. Um, oh I don't know they're all. Like sneaky adjectives. Ah I would say ah oh my gosh like. 28:49.53 Sam I Know what's an adjective for like she's very ah selfish I Guess Ah so yeah, very very self-interest ah morally gray. Um. 28:54.26 sidekqpodcast Okay, selfish self-interested. Okay. 29:06.78 Sam Yeah. 29:07.17 sidekqpodcast So mysterious self-interested and morally gray. 29:13.87 Sam Um, yeah I think those would be accurate. 29:18.81 sidekqpodcast Okay, interesting I Wonder um well I mean because the stated lore as it says forra and you know being these elven creatures who come from the fay wild and have the ability to shift between seasonal covers I don't exactly know how all of this. Different seasons coordinate. But I wonder if that has anything to play into it or not as far as like does she act like you know. So if you were to meet like an autumn ain or something like that would that like I wonder if they would like oh the pumpkin lady like oh yes, we like her. Oh. She's like weird. She's not like the rest of us autumn Alaron and but then again, she's an arch facey so they kind of have to like respect her whatever but I don't know I'm just curious if there's anything you're thinking might be if there's something to that or I'm just speaking out of turn. 30:02.54 Sam Um, gotcha. Yeah, um. 30:09.94 Sam Um, no, no, no ah no I like it. Um I feel like I'm always you know, not the best at making characters. Um, so yeah, no I appreciate the ah I I like to bounce ideas off of friends and and stuff. 30:25.42 sidekqpodcast Oh sure. 30:27.81 Sam Oh yeah, no, that's that's super interesting. 30:32.45 sidekqpodcast Does she have like a cadre of autumn alain that serve her maybe like like hench henchman Hench Goons or something like that. She's like flanked by a but like like a squadron of autumn alarain that look all. 30:42.68 Sam Um, yeah I would I would. 30:49.90 sidekqpodcast Ah, you know, mysterious as her or something or just very brooding and serious or however, they're supposed to be. 30:54.59 Sam Um, yeah, yeah, sends them off to do her do her deeds. No I like that. 31:01.74 sidekqpodcast Suddenly I'm getting like ah like a mafioso vibe. She rolls up in a pumpkin carriage you know and then there's like Autumn Alara that are like operating the carriage and like you know their dark suits and sunglasses and they open the carriage to let the the players in and they're riding around town in a. 31:05.30 Sam Are. 31:20.64 sidekqpodcast Pumpkin carriage and she's giving them like a morally gray mission and then she drops them off and then the pumpkin just kind of like carriage just goes off 1 ne's like oh you were talking to the pumpkin lady who's serious business. So okay, okay. 31:20.92 Sam Um, yeah. 31:26.88 Sam Um, yeah, so yeah, no I like that. 31:39.50 sidekqpodcast So ideas some ideas some brewing. Maybe maybe we're going to get some ah Twitter Instagram tattoo ideas of the pumpkin lady in her carriage who knows but we always like to have our Npcs have something cool on them whether that is an item a piece of lore a secret. 31:49.20 Sam Um, yes, um. 31:56.71 sidekqpodcast Or maybe even an ideal or concept that the character ascribes to so what is something that the pumpkin lady Sun rivers masters would have whether that's an item piece of law or secret etc. 32:11.17 Sam Ah, one 1 item that she ah that is canon in our ah in our campaign is that she has access to this like ah teleportation dust so she doesn't necessarily like ah like. 32:26.80 sidekqpodcast Um. 32:28.85 Sam Cast a spell or whatever to to teleport and she like sends us ah different places when she needs to so at 1 point she sends us to actually retrieve more teleportation like this like rock that she turns into that dust. 32:37.58 sidekqpodcast Um. 32:43.58 sidekqpodcast Oh interesting. 32:45.85 Sam Um, so I thought that of a pretty cool ah kind of item that she had and 1 of our players tried to sneak some and not give it to her when we had acquired it and there were definitely consequences to that. 32:56.77 sidekqpodcast Oh oh is it was it in the astral sea or something like that as far as where this teleportation rock dust comes from. 33:10.63 Sam No, it was in ah so there was like ah a part of these I think it was outside of some ruins so it was like ah like a very old civilization that like no one had gone to a long time and we actually ran into. Ah, deceased party that she had previously sent there to acquire this same dust. Ah so it's just very Dangerous. So It's no one else really has access to it I think we have to be. 33:32.75 sidekqpodcast Um. 33:38.83 sidekqpodcast Interesting. Okay, so okay, so it's something from a dead empire long ago and so this was like in the age of our conm. Oh we just had teleportation dust that we could just use everywhere and then of course some great apocalypse or something happened and now the world's rebuilding. 33:47.61 Sam Um, yeah. 33:57.66 sidekqpodcast And no one knows like oh you just have to have like teleportation circles and teleportation magic dust that but that sounds too complicated or no one knows about it but she does because she survived the apocalypse or whatever. 34:06.60 Sam Um, yeah, yeah, it felt like yeah no, that's kind of the vibes we got and like we you know are relatively new new to you know, ah working with her so we don't really know. 34:22.92 Sam Like what her history is or like how long she's had access to this stuff. So I thought that was pretty cool. 34:25.11 sidekqpodcast Okay, so it's almost yeah, it's kind of like a tesser act like you know when the tesser act as ah as an infinity stone was introduced into the Mcu the ability to be able to use the power of teleportation to like do all this. Crazy stuff. So yeah, Okay I could see it. Yeah yeah, and with her being morally great. It's like what is she exactly doing with this stuff are we are we. The bad guys are we doing something good. Yeah okay, very cool. Okay, so she knows about so the the lore is she knows about this teleportation dust. 34:53.94 Sam Um, yeah, exactly. Um. 35:03.29 sidekqpodcast And just the fact that she has like stockpiles of it that she uses for her own mysterious purposes. Okay, all right? and then of course we like all of our Npcs to be able to offer up side quests. So. What is a particular quest that the pumpkin lady would be willing to recruit or hire player characters hire player characters to go and do on her behalf. 35:29.81 Sam Um, okay, ah yeah I feel. 35:30.76 sidekqpodcast And if you need inspiration. You can always roll a d 12 or you know you know the character better than us. Obviously so maybe maybe you tell us or share with us like a side quest she sent to you off on or something. Or maybe it's to go get more of this teleportation dust or something. 35:49.25 Sam Um, yeah, that definitely that definitely was one of the the side quests that she sent us on um, but ah, the first side quest that she ah kind of forced us into was she. 35:53.44 sidekqpodcast I. 36:05.69 Sam Ah, because she she has her own kind of ah like agenda that we're not really aware of um so I'm not sure like how it ties into everything yet. But ah she sent us to the town or the the capital of this. Ah ah, continent that we're on. They had like their version of the Olympics. So. It's like a very sacred event like these people like you know like train their whole lives to go and she somehow conned her way into letting getting us into the olympics and basically of. 36:24.75 sidekqpodcast So Ok. I. 36:41.49 Sam Ah, you know, kind of ruining ruining the event for whatever ends. Um, yeah, so I feel like she would she kind of just sneaks her parties into chaos ah to whatever whatever ends. 36:42.64 sidekqpodcast Oh okay. 37:00.97 Sam To acquire things or ah, you know set other things in motion. 37:08.40 sidekqpodcast Okay, so do you want the side quest that she offers up to be. She gives you an opportunity to sneak into some sort of a prestigious event or honor ceremony. But she needs you to ruin it or something like that instead of doing a good job. 37:26.45 Sam Um, yeah I know I feel like that would that's that's on Brand. Ah yeah, so yeah, it doesn't have to be like a like a sporting event or something like that. But yeah, maybe like ah like a prestigious banquet or. 37:27.95 sidekqpodcast Ok. 37:39.61 sidekqpodcast Yeah, a dwarven drinking contest and you spike all the drinks or something like that and then everyone it's like ipacac in the ale or something like that that'd be a bad time for everyone even with the dwarven constitution itself. 37:45.30 Sam Um, okay, yes, ah yes, yes. 37:57.29 sidekqpodcast Okay. 37:57.48 Sam Yeah, it always feels innocent in the beginning and then the the consequences Unveil themselves later on. 38:02.34 sidekqpodcast Okay, so then what's going to be the consequence of success if you go through with this side Quest and you you do the thing and you ruin and tarnish the name of set event. What's going to be the reward. 38:18.59 Sam Um, um I feel like whenever she rewards her party. It's always in a ah very um, ah I don't know if you've ever watched. Um I. 38:24.34 sidekqpodcast And. 38:35.94 Sam Sorry now I can't even think of the the name of the show but the here's $5 go see a star war very like she doesn't develop it? Yes, ah so very out of touch with like what? ah the value is to something to the party in on this like. 38:40.39 sidekqpodcast Oh arrested development. 38:55.28 Sam Lane or just reality in general. Ah so she show reward us with things but it it always feels like it's very either undervalued or super over the top. 38:59.55 sidekqpodcast Um. 39:09.17 sidekqpodcast Okay, so so could go either way. So some some pitalins or something that's super overpowered that you have no business having basically. 39:18.57 Sam Yeah I I feel like it should almost be like a roll of the dice of either just something so dumb or so like this it like you just acquired like a legendary weapon for ruining a drinking contest. You know. 39:25.51 sidekqpodcast Whoo. 39:36.58 sidekqpodcast So okay, yeah, that's pretty cool. Um yet that's a very fun mechanic as well. So like literally the dm sitting there rolling a dice and then like evens are odds. Okay, let's figure out what you get like here's five bucks go here's 5 gold pieces. Go see a nice play or it's like. 39:50.43 Sam Um, yeah, our yeah, yes, exactly yeah, that's that's pumpkin lady vibes. 39:53.34 sidekqpodcast Here's a varpal sword like okay and then of course probably also coming along with it. You. Probably get in her good graces and then she's more willing to give you perhaps other jobs and stuff like that and. 40:10.65 Sam Yes, yeah I feel like once you align yourself to her. You are stuck with her and you pretty much can't say no she doesn't like yeah her. 40:22.53 sidekqpodcast And especially with all the autumn elves. Ah the ah autumn sorry the opaladin squad that ah seems to flan her in you know, like secret service or ah or ah muscle or something like that trying to be like. 40:37.20 sidekqpodcast Stepping up to her. What's going on. Do it the break your kneecaps what's going on. Okay, but now we have to consider the opposite. What's going to be the consequence of failure. Maybe they get invited to this event and they decide. No, you know this is our opportunity to do something awesome. So let's win this thing and they end up winning it instead of ruining it. 40:37.66 Sam Um, exactly yeah. 40:56.49 sidekqpodcast What's going to be the consequence of that. 40:59.16 Sam Um, yeah, that's a good question I I feel like whenever we have done something that displeased her like our party. Ah she she has a weird sense of revenge. Ah. 41:06.75 sidekqpodcast M. 41:15.82 Sam And and likes we'll send you messages of like a don't you don't you don't mess with the pumpkin lady kind of mafia vibes like you were talking about. Ah she ah put it like a tracking bracelet on 1 of our party members to make sure that he. 41:21.79 sidekqpodcast And. 41:32.53 Sam Wasn't going out of line because he kind of sasses back to her sometimes um so I feel like she would do something like like act like she's not upset, but the consequence would be ah either like. 41:34.87 sidekqpodcast M. 41:52.51 Sam Know maybe like taking away ah like a power or an item that you already have or something something like that. So I I'm trying to think? Yeah yeah, maybe. 42:01.42 sidekqpodcast Oo I was going to say maybe like a low level curse or something like that like our charge phase I feel like are pretty good at being able to dole out like some low level curses I don't know about pretty hefty curses. But. 42:15.29 Sam Um, yeah, yeah. 42:19.34 sidekqpodcast So inconveniences the party in some way. Maybe that means like oh this ah this class. Well I don't know if I don't know how punishing a Dm necessarily wants to be but just something harmless enough that would be like oh this thing that you're supposed to be good at will. 42:28.85 Sam Are. 42:35.22 sidekqpodcast Suddenly you have to roll with disadvantage instead of ah, just ah, you know like your your regular advantage or whatever and then it's like oh what? why? Why does this keep happening. It's like I don't know you last person you spoke with was a pumpkin lady and she asked me to do this thing and. 42:39.70 Sam Um, yeah. 42:50.60 sidekqpodcast You didn't do it the way she wanted. So maybe maybe that has something to do with it. Okay, so something minor, but it's very annoying that will affect the party and then um, so obviously when they go to confront her about this does She give them like another opportunity to. 42:52.47 Sam Um, yeah, yeah, no I like that. 42:59.30 Sam Um, yes, yeah. 43:09.21 sidekqpodcast You know, try and make up for it and then if they succeed there. Okay now the curse is off and now we're sort of on an okay playing field and if you want more jobs then you can take them or if not that might be your opportunity to kind of exit out of the loop before you get drug in further. 43:14.79 Sam Um, yeah, um. 43:26.10 Sam Yeah, yeah, I feel like when you would ask like you know for for the other job or like ah you know sorry we messed up or whatever she would act like oh I I'm so sorry I didn't mean to put that curse on you or something like that you know like oh. 43:38.72 sidekqpodcast So okay, interesting all right? and then of course now if it like is super negative like they they win the thing they get cursed and but they're mad and they're like we got to teach this lady a lesson. What's the consequence of that if they want to go. If They want to go Murder Hobo Hardcore. What's what's that like is she I mean you said she's an arch Phasey. So it sounds like are we gearing up for a battle with an arch fay and her team. 44:02.87 Sam Um, oh oh I don't know oh. 44:08.92 Sam Um, yeah, yeah I don't know I yeah that would probably be pretty rough. Um, yeah. 44:22.93 sidekqpodcast Or does she even not bother. She thinks it's funny and then she's like oh that's cute and then she like you know does the thing where she like severely wounds them and then like that's your lesson like you know, don't know more future attempts or no mercy in the future or something like that. So. 44:39.40 Sam Um, yeah I feel I feel like that would be the way it went if you tried to yeah, go for full Murder hobo on her. Yeah, she would probably yeah leave you on the edge of death and yeah, just leave not kill you. 44:52.44 sidekqpodcast Um, yeah, yeah, right? yeah and then yeah and then maybe surely everyone at that point probably has some kind of ah hinderrance put on them in some way I imagine. 44:54.45 Sam Teach you do a lesson. 45:04.78 Sam Um, oh absolutely? Yes, yeah. 45:06.78 sidekqpodcast The Autumn season is especially bitter for everyone in the party. Okay, very cool and so we had the optional questions. Do you do you think? um, you know the pumpkin lady needs more elaboration with some of these optional questions or do you feel like this is pretty good point. 45:26.20 Sam Um, I feel like that's a pretty good point unless you have anything else you feel like we need to add. Um, um. 45:30.00 sidekqpodcast And it's up to you. It's whatever you're comfortable with so and if you want me to ask it. So then you know we can do that too like you know, like if you need a refresher on the optional questions I don't know. But. 45:41.76 Sam Um, ah oh got you gotcha? Um well I feel like they're the the best um, characteristic to me for her is her accent is um. 45:54.11 sidekqpodcast M. 45:59.37 Sam Ah, when the Dm introduced her I don't know if you've ever seen Fraser the the old 90 s show early two thousand yeah, there's a character in there named Bb Glaser and ah she has very like a very almost like. 46:05.19 sidekqpodcast Oh a little bit. Not much it, but it wasn't my kind of humor growing up. 46:18.54 Sam Transact Transatlantic accent. Um, very very businessy so her accent is it's ah I feel I feel like that adds a lot to her. Um her character. 46:31.13 sidekqpodcast Okay, transatlantic. So that's like the 1920 s radio voice 46:35.99 Sam Yeah, exactly yeah but like a little yeah like that little zippy and like I'm not going to attempt to do it because I will embarss myself. Um, exactly exactly. 46:47.14 sidekqpodcast You have a cross the pumpkin lady because if you do you will get in cut ands kind of a thing. Okay, all right, very cool right? Oh sorry I cut you off which. 46:55.99 Sam Thousand percent which yeah or men know you're totally fine. It's ah are just it just adds so much to in our game. The the pumpkin lady just thinking about her. Ah. 47:14.99 Sam Describing like she's like when when I said it's dark I mean it's very dark and it was just it's so silly. 47:19.94 sidekqpodcast Awesome! Well, we've had a chance to unveil and Discover Sun rivers bastards a k a the pumpkin lady that now I think it's time that we head into a random encounter went on so this is the. 47:29.31 Sam Um. 47:36.10 Sam Um, so. 47:38.20 sidekqpodcast Part of the show where at this point I would give you an ad read but I don't have any sponsors at time of this recording I might have to check some notes somewhere and see if there is something there. But if not that's okay, if you have ah an affiliate program or you have something that you would like me to promote get in contact me in my email. Sidekicks and side quest at and Gmail.com let me read the proposal and we'll talk. So hopefully some eccentric lord or rich lady is going to hit this bartic paladin up for some sponsorship but that out of the way this is the random encounter so we get to to do a little bit of a role play a little bit of in yet. A little bit of a vignette we get to play some d and d as it were so you've done a fabulous job of describing the pumpkin lady no transitlantic accent required but the question becomes what kind of scene? are you interested in portraying. Are you wanting. 48:26.76 Sam Um. 48:34.45 sidekqpodcast Ah, the pumpkin lady to meet one of the podcast adventurer characters or is this going to be the pumpkin lady perhaps talking to 1 of her. Um Autumn Alain lieutenants ah is it her in a court with other arch fay talking about her plans or. 48:46.78 Sam Are. 48:53.96 sidekqpodcast I Don't know what kind of scene are you interested in showcasing her often. 48:58.20 Sam Um, I I mean the lieutenant 1 sounds really fun for talking to her a little henchman. 49:05.28 sidekqpodcast Okay, okay so it'll be a scene with the pumpkin lady talking with 1 of her henchmen. Okay, so we'll just um. 49:17.21 sidekqpodcast Make up something here I was just going to try and be likerant name generator. Don't mind me googling things in the background while we're doing a podcast recording. Okay so we will let's see male female. 49:29.87 Sam Um. 49:35.34 sidekqpodcast See does it matter coin coin flip we'll say um, a dude I feel like maybe she's got a whole bunch of dudes under her control like she's she's the top brass and so she's got a bunch of dudes R atan okay, all right? So I have a I have a I have a name and if you're ready. Um I'll let you. 49:42.77 Sam Um, I'll people father. Um. 49:54.24 sidekqpodcast Set the scene then. 49:58.52 Sam Ah, okay I might need some some help with this I'm like really bad it. Oh that would be great. 50:01.65 sidekqpodcast Oh or do you want me to set it I can I can do that too If you need me to set the scene. Okay, all right? So Oh do you want it to be in the fay wild or do you want it to be in the mundane world where. She would conceivably meet player characters. 50:21.19 Sam Um, ah maybe yeah, maybe in the in the the mundane world as you put it. 50:26.57 sidekqpodcast Okay, all right all right? So setting the scene. Ah, we're in a elven empire city ah kind of borrowing something from my home world will say it is the moon elven empire. So the Alabaster city. 50:44.89 sidekqpodcast Um, Luan I believe is the name of the nation and there's probably some fancy name for the capital that I can't think of at this moment but I know that one of the terms for it is the alabaster city and lately the pumpkin lady has been making a stay in the Alabaster City um just white white white. Shiny ah everywhere and then her pumpkin carriage stands out in and the streets almost as if to make a statement kind of a piece of her presence in the town. Um. And there's other visitors and other peoples and ancestries that are there in the town but this is obviously a predominantly heavy moon elven society but the camera zooms in as ah, an an autumn aladin coach driver is um, you know? Ah, ah. Giving a snap of the reins and the horses are picking up their speed and ah the you know the clicking of the cobblestones underneath the wheels and the camera goes into the carriage and we can see that the pumpkin lady is in her full regalia. Um. And ah she is speaking with 1 of her lieutenants a ah autumn aladron man named Araan and what how does the pumpkin lady appear as she is in her pumpkin carriage is she on her way to some fancy event or what do you think she's doing. 52:07.76 Sam Um, ah yeah, probably on the way to some ah some event. Maybe she was invited and maybe she wasn't um oh I'm sorry. 52:20.29 sidekqpodcast Oh oh no no I was just going to ah say that our Dan you know looks out the windows of the carriage and ah. Ah, you know he gives an affirmative nod ah to his mistress and he says you know all all clear. My lady things are looking safe and and good. You know he he's very like very professional and to the point you know, undying loyalty and in service to the pumpkin lady. 52:47.24 Sam Um, okay, um I think she would ah just like acknowledge him. Um and stare out the window and ah. 53:04.41 Sam Maybe talk about the the event that that they're going to um ah should probably say ah okay, an opera Um, ah. 53:09.45 sidekqpodcast An opera. Yeah. 53:23.72 sidekqpodcast Oh no, it's fine. The magics of editing later where I where I cut it and make it seem seamless. Yeah. 53:23.78 Sam Um, sorry um, okay I appreciate that I didn't I. Um, didn't listen to the the end of ah your other podcast before I'm so sorry I didn't know that we were going to do a a scene of sorry. Ah yeah, I'm I'm so bad on the sp get like anxiety sometimes Okay, okay so. 53:39.13 sidekqpodcast Oh no, that's fine. Yeah. 53:50.61 sidekqpodcast It's okay. 53:53.60 Sam Um, okay so I think I'm just going to like talk it out a little bit. Um, maybe they're going to to the opera and ah maybe the mayor of this town is there and ah has some item that she is interested in. 53:59.00 sidekqpodcast Yeah, yeah. 54:06.41 sidekqpodcast Okay, mm. 54:12.63 Sam And um, so maybe she's hoping to run into ah either a party to have them acquire it or ah have her henchman acquire something. 54:29.50 sidekqpodcast Okay, so then our I Don will speak up and say ah I know that you are interested in the Lord Mayor's latest art piece. It would look better. And my ladies collection. 54:49.26 Sam Um, I was thinking the exact same thing she says in her transatlantic accent. Um. 54:57.46 sidekqpodcast Are you wanting me to find you some help or do you need me to see to it. 55:08.94 Sam Um, I think I think you could see to it. 55:13.10 sidekqpodcast Very well is there a particular play that you would like me to use. 55:22.60 Sam Um, oh um. 55:32.69 Sam Oh. 55:35.75 sidekqpodcast Shall I order him a bottle of wine and have the maiden spillets on his pantaloons so that he has to be excused to the privy and that might be my opportunity to lift the keys. 55:54.60 Sam Um I I think that would be perfect. Um, oh my gosh I'm I'm so sorry. 56:05.11 sidekqpodcast Oh no, That's fine. Um, you know our done is a you know a quick study. He wants to make sure that he is ah you know doing his job. Well, his family has been in service of the pumpkin lady for generations so he certainly doesn't want to. Ah, let them down and he wants to prove himself. Maybe even in some part of his mind naively thinks that he loves her like somehow if he could do like the best job then she would see um you know that he is He is worthy of her and you know could be like her consort or Whatever. What have you. 56:41.38 Sam Um. 56:41.59 sidekqpodcast Um, and so he's like okay yes I'll make sure that it is the the most stainful kind of wine that they have available brought brought to his viewing box. Personally so. 56:50.17 Sam Um, well. 56:57.43 Sam Um, perfect. Ah I feel like if she catches the like ah those vibes of him having those feelings the more she would ignore him and you know very silent staring out the window. 57:09.56 sidekqpodcast M. 57:16.59 Sam Ah, minimal minimal ah contact. Um. 57:20.14 sidekqpodcast Yeah, with her being an arch face. She probably has those kinds of powers I don't know if like reading thoughts or just you know she just has that intuition or anything. But yeah, he's trying to keep it cool but you know his you know. 57:28.68 Sam Um, okay, um. 57:35.46 sidekqpodcast Maybe like you know she can hear like his heart beating just a little bit quicker at ah, you know at the you know the the subtlest agreements or or something like that and he's trying to keep his cool and he's just trying to be as professional as as he can and so then um. 57:55.16 sidekqpodcast Ah I don't know I'm just trying to think of anything else that you would like this scene to do or if you feel like this is a ah, pretty good scene to have had her in. 58:02.22 Sam Um, um I I feel like that's pretty good I feel like she's very ah, just gives her orders and ah ah. 58:20.27 Sam Yeah, just very, um, very cold to her. Ah her workers. You know whoever works under her um minimal praise I guess. 58:36.50 sidekqpodcast Okay, so then ah the rest of the carriage ride. You know which isn't probably too much longer to the grand opera house um will continue in silence of ah Eragon and his team. You know they are the best ah that the pumpkin lady has and they will see to her every whim in ah her every need and that she has a great time and ah aradon knows his task you know going in as the cover of the escort but then he will suddenly break off. And then go about the mission of ordering the wine and seeing the changing of the hands of the keys and seen all right. So there. We go you got to be the pumpkin ladies. So. 59:14.71 Sam Um, cool. 59:20.91 sidekqpodcast How was it on this side of the table as it were maybe not and you being a player character encountering her but you kind of being in her mindset as far as a ah Npc character right. 59:32.67 Sam I I I wish I could do her the justice as of the you know, very talented Dms that I get to play with um, but yeah, it's I I I do I do love her character a lot. Um. 59:47.33 sidekqpodcast Oh of course not a problem. You know we get all kinds of characters made on this podcast whether they are good or bad or chaotically somewhere in the middle. 59:47.82 Sam Yeah, so thank you. 59:58.91 Sam Um. 59:59.84 sidekqpodcast So yeah, now that we're starting to get into the final thoughts segment of the show I Always like to check in with the guests and you know see how they're doing Did you did you have a nice time was it was it a good experience being on this silly little podcast. 01:00:13.65 Sam Oh it was awesome. Thank you, Thank you so much. Ah, an absolute blast. Um, it's always a good time to to talk about D and d. 01:00:23.63 sidekqpodcast Of course and also a good time to talk about tattoos I know my wife was saying oh you're interviewing a tattoo artist how soon until she convinces you to ah go and get another one. 01:00:34.98 Sam Um I You can ah call your artist tomorrow I'm sure. 01:00:40.31 sidekqpodcast There we go? Yeah well I've got I've got a a family that I have to take care of first before I can get any more ink done on my skin. In fact I probably need some touchups. It's been a while. Um. 01:00:43.15 Sam Um, yeah, no get to get you. 01:00:51.98 sidekqpodcast Yeah, but um, you know we always like to leave the final moments of the show for the guests. So If there's any other critiques or comments or anything that you like to leave Certainly you can do that and then you know I always want to make sure that whatever you've got to plug where can we find you online. And you know what do we need to know about what do you care about all that stuff laid on us. 01:01:15.76 Sam Um, ah yeah I mean I I had a blast. Thank you so much?
