All right. Well, it is amazing to be able to have these guests back on the show. I know it's been a little while since we heard from y'all, and I was busy recently ah helping out with ah some live games of Dungeons and Dragons at various conventions around the Dallas area running games for y'all. So i turned the microphone over and I asked my guests, hello, ah care to reintroduce yourself? Tell us who is that you are and what is it that you do? 00:01:47.47 KC ah hi we're the Five Sided Fates. You might have remembered us from one of these podcasts like a year ago. 00:01:53.71 Jeri I think it was almost exactly a year ago. 00:01:56.53 KC Crazy. 00:01:56.87 Jeri i feel like it was like July. 00:01:58.66 KC Yeah. 00:01:59.09 Jeri I'm Jerry. 00:01:59.32 KC So, yeah, that's Jerry. I'm Casey. We're the but heads over here at Five Sided Fates. We run not only FateCon, which is a all D&D convention experience with you know, all the fun amenities of a convention, but specifically D&D. 00:02:17.81 KC um We also run all sorts of D&D around ah the DFW area. Like Kurt was saying, ran some live games at ah Fan Expo and DreamHack, and we have lots of more exciting upcoming conventions on the roster. 00:02:34.16 Kurt Crenwelge Yes, indeed. Yes. With the magic of ah time and podcast editing and scheduling, everyone should hopefully be listening to this episode ah here today, July 30th of the year of our Lord 2025. So, yeah, I mean, certainly if there's ah any upcoming, ah you know, places, conventions that we can check out the five sided fates, we're certainly Happy to hear and ah happy to support as well. So because y'all are returning guests of the podcast, you know, it's a little, it's the same format, but it's like a little bit easier ah this time around as far as the questions are concerned. So we know y'all are the five-sided fates. 00:03:12.30 Kurt Crenwelge You're doing all you can to promote D&D here in the ah DFW greater area and all that. And you're running your own convention, which is awesome and participating in many others. 00:03:23.89 Kurt Crenwelge Um, But, you know, this next easy question. ah so since the last time we spoke, which I did check the calendar in the last episode of yours, came out October 4th, 2023. 00:03:36.65 Kurt Crenwelge So it has been significantly longer. 00:03:37.96 Jeri Oh, that was way longer than I thought. 00:03:40.27 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah. ah But since then, that time, that episode, ah have y'all played any games of D&D since the last time we spoke? 00:03:47.88 Jeri Nope. Not a single game in two years. 00:03:49.67 KC but We play so much D&D. 00:03:52.07 Jeri i'm a We play so much D&D. 00:03:55.02 KC ah My, well, that's true. 00:03:55.52 Jeri Actually, we haven't been because you've been gone forever, but. 00:03:58.25 KC i I was gone out of state for the last three weeks doing race car driving things. My other full-time hobby and experience, professional race car driving. um But now that I'm back, we should be continuing. 00:04:12.08 KC I've been running a campaign long-term for Jerry and some other friends. um And we are, think, a little over two years into it, and we're, like, at the end. 00:04:21.07 Jeri Yeah, I think so. 00:04:21.84 KC We're approaching the final... 00:04:22.82 Jeri Don't say that. We have so much to do. I'm not ready to fight the moon. 00:04:25.80 KC ah We're approaching some final chaos, that's... It's gonna be really, like... This might be the last homage to this world that we've been playing in for, like, the last five years, um depending on if they survive the ending or not. 00:04:37.25 Kurt Crenwelge Mm. Mm. 00:04:40.27 KC You know, who knows? um But if we manage to defeat the moon and... some other evil things, then we might get to say goodbye to this world. And I will be really sad and really, it'll be like a nice, like, we can start over again kind of thing. 00:04:53.84 Kurt Crenwelge o 00:04:54.97 KC So, but that's just me DMing that I play, that we play in so many other games. Jerry's husband DMs for us a bunch of random stuff. And I mean, in all the random games that we've been playing at conventions, I got to run my Waffle House one shot at DreamHack for people who are very, very excited to play it. 00:05:12.20 KC So that was super fun, except they killed my what a lich. And it was, you know, I mean, good, good thing I didn't TPK them, but you every once in a while, you want to kill some people with a syrup monster. 00:05:25.99 Kurt Crenwelge I will say at DreamHack, I was able to run the Saturday game with an army of two. You know, the adventure is designed ideally for five players, um but I had two brave souls sign up for a level 13 game going down into a mind flayer layer. 00:05:42.27 Kurt Crenwelge And I have to applaud those gentlemen because they got real creative and they they were very smart pushing some enemies off of a platform into a giant pit below. So they didn't have to fight as many enemies and working their way down. But the boss monster mind flayer got him in the end. But it was still a very valiant effort. So, you know, those are those are the kinds of games that you can expect when you're when you're with the five sided fates. 00:06:07.83 KC yeah We like to create chaos. 00:06:11.98 Kurt Crenwelge Perfect. 00:06:12.88 Jeri And I got out of running my game at DreamHack because no one signed up for it. So I was like, oh, no one signed up yet. Don't worry about it. I'm more of a player than a DM. So I didn't really DMing scares me, especially for strangers. 00:06:25.70 Kurt Crenwelge ah 00:06:26.04 KC yeah we were gonna We're making Jerry Deanamit at ah probably at QuakeCon, which, spoiler alert, that's that con will be happening in theory like a couple weeks after this podcast comes out. 00:06:28.72 Jeri Yeah, I'm eventually going to. 00:06:33.18 Jeri QuakeCon spoilers. 00:06:40.27 KC So um like a week and half. 00:06:40.58 Jeri Not even a couple of weeks, like ah ah a week and a half. 00:06:45.71 KC so So if you like D&D and also LAN parties, I think that's what happens at QuakeCon, computer gaming. 00:06:54.02 Kurt Crenwelge right Yeah, that's like a very behe Bethesda involved. 00:06:55.14 KC we'll be doing a lot of, a lot of D&D late, late into the night because QuakeCon is like a, it closes at 2 a.m. kind of place. So, late night 00:07:07.78 Jeri Yes. 00:07:08.27 Kurt Crenwelge Uh, yeah. So, cause, cause I'm, I'm going to assume and guess that our good friend, uh, Kenneth Vigueux who runs the, uh, uh, the Chad fallout 76 podcast and also the fallout for hope, uh, charity, 00:07:21.56 Kurt Crenwelge ah you know team, I'm sure he's going to be there ah in person since you know he's a new transplant to DFW as well. So he was able to show up to Fan Expo. So I got to say hi to him ah over the weekend, which was nice and got to see all of y'all. 00:07:35.99 Kurt Crenwelge Obviously, I wasn't running games. I opted for the DreamHack weekend, which, yeah, it seems like everyone had fun at Fan Expo because the tables were full when I was there and everyone was playing D&D. So it was a good time with y'all. 00:07:50.36 Jeri Yeah, that was our third year doing Fan Expo, so people knew we were there. 00:07:50.77 KC Yeah, 00:07:53.82 Jeri DreamHack was our first year doing that, so people didn't know to expect us down there in the basement where they like to hide the D&D games. 00:08:00.95 Kurt Crenwelge Right, right. 00:08:02.94 KC so hopefully QuakeCon has had D&D, I think, in the past. 00:08:02.98 Kurt Crenwelge Well, perfect. 00:08:06.48 KC So I'm hoping that it'll be a little bit more well-known and maybe we'll you get that repertoire going at all these new places. Yeah. 00:08:16.01 Kurt Crenwelge Exactly, yeah. well you're but You're building that brand recognition so that people people can come to trust the five-sided fates as they a flitter about the DFW area. 00:08:27.77 KC You will find us in weird costumes with weird voices playing weird games. That's all we can hope for. That 00:08:34.19 Jeri Or sometimes sitting on the floor making friendship bracelets in between games. 00:08:38.65 KC did happen at DreamHack. 00:08:39.92 Jeri That didn't happen at your back. 00:08:40.09 Kurt Crenwelge Yes. 00:08:42.51 Kurt Crenwelge Well, perfect. As ah well, as you know, the namesake of the show is, you know, sidekicks and side quests. So the way that we kind of recontextualize the question this time around, since the last time we spoke again, we're thinking back to like October of 2023. 00:08:56.99 Kurt Crenwelge twenty twenty three ah do you Did you happen to learn about or find or acquire, adopt a new favorite NPC or sidekick character and any in any of the major things that you've done, whether it's an RPG, video game, movie, film, television, literature, etc.? 00:09:14.98 Kurt Crenwelge And why is this new character, this new NPC or sidekick character, um your favorite? 00:09:21.42 KC Hmm. You know, I looked at a bunch of the questions, but I didn't look at that one. I should have thought about that one harder. 00:09:26.53 Jeri Bye. 00:09:27.43 Kurt Crenwelge Well, I can tell you I've at least finished my first playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3 finally on ah Xbox Series X. so And I am doing a cross-platform campaign with a new character that I rolled up randomly with a good friend of mine, and she plays on a PlayStation. 00:09:45.63 Kurt Crenwelge um So... So I've at least made it through the game, so I've at least met... i um' I played as Duncan, and of course he wanted to talk to everybody in the world. So if there's any interesting, obscure Baldur's Gate 3 characters maybe you wanted to name drop, ah I might have an inkling of of who you're talking about. 00:10:03.12 Jeri My favorite is the Suspicious Cow. Did you talk to the Suspicious Cow? 00:10:08.03 Kurt Crenwelge the ah The mysterious ox? 00:10:09.81 Jeri The Mysterious Ox? 00:10:09.84 KC Yeah, the arc. 00:10:10.48 Jeri Yeah, whatever his name is. 00:10:11.25 KC Yeah. 00:10:11.57 Jeri I always call Suspicious Cow. 00:10:13.16 Kurt Crenwelge Oh. 00:10:13.30 Jeri Makes him sound dumber. Did you talk to him in all of his stages of all his forms? 00:10:14.84 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, no, I, uh, yes. 00:10:22.20 Jeri Did you follow his quest line? 00:10:23.98 Kurt Crenwelge Uh, well, I read up about it later, and Duncan was horrified, and and because he is chaotically good, ah he was rather brash, and and took him out in Act 2 instead of keeping his secret. 00:10:38.16 Jeri so He was great in the final fight with the Mind Flayer. If you go with his questline, he'll join you in the final fight. So, big fan. 00:10:45.37 Kurt Crenwelge That is what I've yeah that is what i've ah what i've heard. and thankfully that playthrough, I was playing it on the easiest difficulty level because I was like, I want to get the story. So like I don't want to be punished. 00:10:55.39 Jeri oh 00:10:56.43 Kurt Crenwelge I want to like learn the story. So the next time I play, okay, now i'm ah now I can struggle a little bit more and and be okay with it. 00:11:04.05 Jeri That's the only way to play video games. Easy mode. I'm not trying to be challenged. I want to have fun. 00:11:10.32 Kurt Crenwelge Well, it's more of me being like, I'm a collector and I am an achievement hunter. And I just want to know all the backlog, ah you know, the random like find a hundred feathers and unlock the super cool cut scene or whatever. 00:11:24.16 Kurt Crenwelge Hmm. 00:11:26.03 KC Yeah, that's too much work for me. I feel like, forgot to say Baldur's Gate, i feel ah contractually obligated to say Volo as someone who cosplays as Volo. 00:11:35.36 Kurt Crenwelge o 00:11:36.75 KC I love a little lad. And he also is just like, so, I don't want to worthless, but he's just like so ridiculous, and I don't really know what his use is other than to have, I was playing a bard in my main playthrough, so getting to have like a bard off with him a little bit, I feel like it, I don't know if it would if it would play out a little bit differently if you were playing a non-bard a character when you talk to him, but I feel like since my charisma is also so high, we just bounced off roasting each other over and over again every time we spoke, and we're constantly butting heads 00:11:48.98 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. 00:12:08.76 KC And me realizing this man is a liar. This man doesn't know anything he's talking about. What is what is happening? And then I'm like, wait, but I'm also a bard. I'm also just lying about everything all the time, too. So really, we're just two peas in a pod. 00:12:20.55 Kurt Crenwelge Yes, i was I was just watching Honor Among Thieves on an airplane ride that I literally had last night. um it Got to finish it on the return flight as opposed to the going to my destination flight. 00:12:34.51 Kurt Crenwelge um And so I'm very much reminded of Edgen's character, ah Chris Pine's character, who is a bard, but he does not do any bard things in the movie. 00:12:43.39 Jeri Not a single bar thing. 00:12:43.55 Kurt Crenwelge He... 00:12:44.07 KC over Never a single time. 00:12:46.41 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah, he Elkabongs people with his loot, and the and you know he like maybe offers encouraging words or talks about his plans and stuff like that. ah So maybe subtly giving Bardic inspiration every once in a while and just using his loot as a melee weapon, but otherwise doesn't really do any magic or spells or anything like that. 00:13:06.06 KC I also ironically watch that movie last night with my parents because they had never seen it. And no. 00:13:12.30 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, they've never seen it. 00:13:13.96 KC um And they were like, yeah, I think we're probably going to watch it. And so I was doing the, you know, pointing out like, oh, that's this magic spell. And oh, this is meant to be this. And this is referencing this. They don't know anything about D&D. 00:13:24.08 KC They think it's lame. But there's like the the painting that they use to use the portal, which I assume is a painting of Volo because it looks very Volo-esque. And so when it came up, I was like, I pointed at it. 00:13:33.30 Kurt Crenwelge oh 00:13:34.90 KC i like I'm pretty sure that that's that character that I cosplay from Baldur's Gate. And they were like, okay. you know Everything I told them, they were like, uh-huh. Sure. 00:13:42.43 Kurt Crenwelge yeah 00:13:42.90 KC ah Totally. And I also made the reference to, yeah, you know the main dude? He's a bard. You know, bards have like abilities. They can do stuff. They get magic. like But this dude, he's not doing any of that. I don't know what he's doing. 00:13:52.78 Jeri he's not He's not really a bard. He's lying about being a bard. 00:13:54.53 KC I don't think he's just a guy. 00:13:56.40 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, interesting. Yeah, if it's like, a well, maybe not a maybe not the, what is it, the the School of Shadows. So it's not like the the spy assassin, I'm lying, pretending to be a different school. 00:14:10.09 Kurt Crenwelge You think he's just straight up, you know, the charlatan background and he's masquerading as a bard. At least he knows that he has proficiency in loot and being able to play it, but you don't think he's truly a bard. 00:14:19.46 KC Yeah. 00:14:21.06 Jeri No, he's just like maybe a rogue or a fighter and just with high charisma. He's just lying his way through everything. 00:14:27.45 KC Yeah. 00:14:27.50 Kurt Crenwelge Hmm. 00:14:28.20 KC He does not really do anything. Bardic, it feels like. 00:14:33.71 Kurt Crenwelge And he used to be a Harper, so he has at least some martial weapon training, it would seem. So. There you go. 00:14:42.25 KC um Anyway, great movie, highly recommend. 00:14:44.46 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah, it's a fun one. I thought it was ah a really well done Dungeons and Dragons movie and would hope to maybe someday maybe see a sequel. But you know what? Maybe that's also kind of the beauty of the movie, too, is that it's like its own little time capsule of like, well, we made this movie and and then that's it. 00:15:03.90 Kurt Crenwelge And then it's like we it's like at the one shot you have and then no one can ever schedule it again to ah turn it into a real game campaign. 00:15:04.33 KC yeah Yeah, that feels awkward. 00:15:11.49 Jeri but There's so much D&D lore. They can just do a d another D&D movie just in a different part of, yeah, a different city somewhere. 00:15:16.54 KC City and yeah. 00:15:18.52 Jeri There's so much they can do with D&D. So much real estate. 00:15:21.00 Kurt Crenwelge but That is true. Yeah, because i my understanding was that maybe even the production company that like E1 or whatever Hasbro like got shuttered, you know, Kurt of the future may have to insert an editorial note here to see whether that or not is factually correct or not. 00:15:38.88 Kurt Crenwelge um But yeah, remains to be seen and it would love for a sequel. It would be fun for sure. 00:15:46.09 KC Even my parents who don't know anything about D&D were like, oh, that was a really good movie. I enjoyed that. I didn't realize it was going to be a comedy. and i was like, that's because you don't play D&D. I knew this movie was going to, they have to make it funny because that's all, like, D&D is serious for five minutes and the funniest thing you've ever done for five minutes. 00:15:54.01 Kurt Crenwelge o 00:16:02.36 KC And then you just do that back and forth over and over again for five years. 00:16:06.41 Jeri Yeah, you're psychologically torturing someone in a dream and someone else at the table goes, my papa has rickets and then ah ruins the whole thing because I was trying to psychologically torture a person, but now I can't stop laughing about my papa has rickets. 00:16:14.25 KC Yeah. And then you're like, well... 00:16:20.13 KC yeah And then it becomes phrase and then it gets said all the time and then it becomes a recurring, it just, you know. 00:16:23.71 Jeri Yeah. And then I tried to make some buttons that say drop the bass for rickets and Casey tells me to stop trying to make rickets happen. Rickets is big in our 00:16:33.01 KC It's only funny to us. 00:16:35.48 Jeri I think it's hilarious. 00:16:38.86 Kurt Crenwelge I'm getting Red Dead Redemption flashbacks because I'm pretty sure Ricketts was one of the name of the cowboys, at least in the first one that you found and 00:16:45.46 Jeri That's a good cowboy name. 00:16:46.80 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's one of the legendary cowboys you find when John Marston goes to Mexico. But that's besides the point. Could be, you know, could be a an interesting answer for a sidekick character ah for the question I answered. But... 00:17:02.40 Kurt Crenwelge we would I would be remiss if I didn't also ask the question, what happens to be your favorite new side quest or B plot element you've come across since the last time we spoke? Again, whether it's um you know from an RPG, video game, movie, film, television, literature, etc. And why is this new side quest or B plot element been your favorite? 00:17:23.46 Jeri Have you heard of the video game Date Everything? 00:17:26.08 KC I knew it was going to come up at some point. 00:17:27.42 Jeri know. I have to talk about it. 00:17:29.38 Kurt Crenwelge I have heard of it. And yeah, it's like a dating sim where magically you can talk to any appliance or object or thing in a house and it becomes anthropomorphized. 00:17:36.61 Jeri Yes. 00:17:39.78 Jeri Yes. So basically this whole game is side quests and subplots. And it's the funniest thing I've ever played. Literally that entire game. That's my answer. Just that game. Like, the actual main plot of the game, not important. 00:17:52.17 Jeri All the side quests, all the side stories. Like, the fact that my... ah dirty laundry and my laundry hamper are in an abusive relationship and my washer and my dryer broke up and I have to try to get them back together. 00:18:05.24 Jeri It's so funny to me. I don't know. And like, I summoned a ghost in my attic with board games that's voiced by Brennan Lee Mulligan. um So every part of that game is hilarious and it's all just side quests. 00:18:16.70 Kurt Crenwelge Oh. 00:18:20.90 Jeri It's my favorite thing. 00:18:22.75 Kurt Crenwelge i feel I feel like there's a good number of voice actors in it from the D&D community that are like, you know, in this game, like what, Robbie Daymond and I'm sure some of the CR people. 00:18:22.79 Jeri That's all. I've played 20... Oh. 00:18:26.11 Jeri oh 00:18:32.61 Jeri Yeah, Robbie Damon is like... Yeah, Robbie's like one of the producers of the game. And see, Matt Mercer, Merceray, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Liam O'Brien, Ashley Johnson ah from Critical Role are all in there. 00:18:45.43 KC Liam O'Brien. 00:18:49.66 Jeri And then there's Christian Navarro, who was on like Critical Role for a little bit. And Amy Carrero was in it. um 00:18:57.75 KC Eric A.G. 00:18:58.88 Jeri Erica Ishii is in there. um 00:19:02.22 Kurt Crenwelge Dante Bosco. i I saw like a reel or a thing where Dante Bosco is in there. 00:19:04.30 Jeri Yes, yeah, he's in there. he's He's the fireplace and he hates me. um we had a We had a bad conversation once, but that game. If you love side quests and ah just like NPCs, that game, that's all it is. There's 100 NPCs and they have 100 different side quests for you to do. 00:19:22.58 Kurt Crenwelge Wow. Impressive. 00:19:25.87 Jeri And they're all hot. 00:19:26.11 KC yeah 00:19:27.76 Jeri Except for the dish dishwasher, he's really scary. 00:19:27.74 KC Well... 00:19:32.30 Kurt Crenwelge Okay, then. Duly noted. 00:19:35.56 Jeri Dishwasher will try to kill you. 00:19:38.57 KC That's the only thing I've... That's, like, one of the main things I've heard, is people just being like, put that dishwasher. Oh, no. 00:19:47.05 KC Well, I feel like since we've talked about the D&D movie, now... ah I feel like, does it count? I guess the side quest of the movie is them trying to get the helm that they can use that. 00:19:57.96 KC um But I love that um they bring in the paladin character, like, just for that. It's really just like, we need to do this thing. 00:20:03.94 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. 00:20:05.37 KC We're going bring in this extra dude who's, like, way too serious. I just love his character. I love a, like, it felt like everyone made a character for the game, and then someone else comes in, and they didn't tell him, like, we're actually playing a really silly game, so he came in, like, way too serious about it. 00:20:21.44 KC And like and then but then suddenly you're like, oh, he doesn't really fit into the vibe of the group as much. But it's hilarious because of that. So that's part of why I just love his character in it. Because he's just like so cool and so serious. 00:20:34.45 KC And does all the sick fighting when they're you know fighting the dragon and all this stuff. And then he's just like, all right, my time is done. And he's just gone. you And you never hear from him again. He doesn't exist anymore. It's your one friend who showed up for one session and then and moved away. 00:20:50.76 KC And you're like, well, that was a good time while it happened. 00:20:53.47 Kurt Crenwelge yeah and the fun bit of trivia I think I remember is ah the director didn't call cut, so he just kept walking in a straight line, and crit and they're like they fit they got the camera on Chris Pine, and it's like, oh, you know what he's just walking in straight line. 00:21:05.19 KC And he's like, you're still going. 00:21:07.54 Kurt Crenwelge a boulder coming up. but Oh, he's just going to go over it. so like 00:21:10.89 KC yeah 00:21:11.89 Kurt Crenwelge treating it like a Bethesda game where it's like the character, like they said their thing, they're done, and then they just kind of walk off into the distance. 00:21:11.93 KC Yeah. Yeah. 00:21:18.88 KC They just keep going. Yeah. you're like, well, I guess i guess that was it. Okay. Oh, yep. He's still going. 00:21:23.72 Kurt Crenwelge Let me just go walk into this fence and get caught on the wall and just the animation of me still walking, but I'm ah not progressing any farther. 00:21:28.87 KC Yeah. 00:21:33.58 KC Yeah, exactly. 00:21:33.81 Jeri And then you just dematerialize like, and he's gone. 00:21:36.53 KC Yeah. And then you glance away and you glance back and they're gone. You're like, well, okay. I guess I don't get to follow him anymore. 00:21:43.83 Kurt Crenwelge Perfect answer. Love that. And then ah let's see. Yeah. And then the way that we round out the personal interview section, ah Casey and Jerry, ah what is a new passion or hobby that you've picked up in the last year and a half? 00:21:58.32 Kurt Crenwelge ah And ah why why are you passionate about it? Why has it ah sunk its teeth into you? 00:22:06.25 KC Well, I feel like my very obvious answer is making friendship bracelets, which kind of began as it began at Gen Con last year. We received some friendship bracelets for being in cosplay and stuff from different people. 00:22:21.83 KC um And I think, you know, the whole Taylor Swift friendship bracelet trading at, you know, concerts kind of brought them back into the limelight. And I... And like giving gifts is one of my love languages. 00:22:35.50 KC The idea of like crafting something and and getting it to give it to people, I know, fills them with a lot of joy. And I know in the critical role community, in the cosplay community, there's already like a heavy trinket trading um amongst cosplayers and like the run fair with trinket trading and stuff that I was like, oh, this makes perfect logical sense to like start making themed friendship bracelets about either like 00:22:50.89 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. 00:22:57.69 KC whatever costume I'm in or whatever event we're at and then giving them to people as like keepsakes and, you know, have memories of the things. cause I'm a very, like a physical thing evokes a memory for me. Cause I'm a big materialistic, like i like to have a physical something. 00:23:11.95 KC And so I just like bought so many beads sat down on Jerry's. 00:23:17.10 Jeri I literally shipped beads to her house last night that showed up this morning. She's like, I need more beads. 00:23:21.61 KC Yes. And I, and I sorted them today, like a little gremlin on the floor and it was awesome. 00:23:22.08 Jeri I'm like, Amazon. 00:23:25.80 KC Um, 00:23:26.11 Kurt Crenwelge Thank you. 00:23:26.45 KC But literally, we just like opened beads the first time on Jerry's living room floor and just made friendship bracelets for whatever was the next event, like fan festival or something. 00:23:36.41 Jeri Yeah, I don't remember what it was. 00:23:36.54 KC And then pretty much ever since then, like every couple of weeks, I have an urge to just sit on the floor and just like make as many bracelets as I can for whatever upcoming event is happening. 00:23:47.31 KC And people get so happy to receive them, which like it's also childish because it's like, Look, I made you a little bracelet. Here, put it on your wrist. Yay, like I'm a four-year-old giving another four-year-old a gift. 00:23:58.37 KC And it brings me the most joy and serotonin imaginable. Especially because you can make them say anything you want. Just unhinged things about B&D or... 00:24:06.20 Jeri It's really, my favorite one I've ever received was from a child, and it says meat grinder on it. I don't know why it says meat grinder on it. It just says that, and I'm like, this is my favorite friendship bracelet I've ever received, and I wear it all the time. just like, a random child said, here you go, meat grinder. 00:24:24.53 Jeri Great. I don't even want to know what it's from. 00:24:25.40 KC know 00:24:26.75 Jeri I just love living in the the chaos of it. 00:24:29.92 KC yeah And now I'm like in different circles, I'm like well known as like the bracelet person. So I also play like competitive pinball. So I make, started making friendship bracelets for the pinball community. And I went to a big a Texas pinball event where I competed in a women's tournament and I was giving all of my players I played against bracelets and people were like, 00:24:48.60 KC oh my gosh, you're the bracelet girl. I heard that there was like someone leaving bracelets on pinball machines and like giving them away. and I was like, yep, that was me. I was just leaving them everywhere in the hopes that people would find them. was like a little scavenger hunt. 00:24:59.49 KC And they're like, yeah, we heard there was just like some bracelet girl throwing bracelets everywhere. And I was like, great. I've become well-known as a weird bracelet person now. So now I have to keep this up by making more bracelets forever. 00:25:10.65 KC That's 00:25:11.84 Jeri So many bracelets. ah My new... 00:25:14.35 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah, you're going to be like an EDM festival person with like, yeah. 00:25:14.38 KC so fun. 00:25:16.89 Jeri Oh, she usually... 00:25:18.85 KC I actually Yeah well I was painting ah Gloves for a costume So I had taken them off so I could paint on my own hands so And I had quickly wash it off Because I was covered in eyeshadow and paint But I do have them somewhere 00:25:19.34 Jeri i usually have one too, but I just i just got out of the shower, so I don't have any yeah my new My new hobby is crocheting. 00:25:40.55 Jeri I had tried to crochet like 15 years ago and could not figure it out. and I was like, this is witchcraft. I don't understand how this works. And then I got like a crochet kit as a like secret Santa gift this year. 00:25:51.47 Jeri And I was like, you know what? I'm going figure this out. And then I started and then I physically like cannot stop. It's just like a good, like you can't really think about much else. You're just counting. And it's just like a nice repetitive, like one, two, three and, you know, double one, two, three, double one, two, three, double. And you just do that for like six hours. 00:26:10.10 Jeri And then you're like, where has the day gone? And I just listened to a podcast or an audio book or something and just like making all sorts of little guys actually have a present for Casey that keep forgetting to give her. 00:26:21.73 Jeri that's sitting literally right there. 00:26:21.79 KC Yeah, I meant to remind you about it when I was at your house today, but... 00:26:24.68 Jeri You want to see a spoiler? Spoiler. 00:26:27.44 KC Yeah, give me a sneak peek. 00:26:27.73 Jeri Spoiler. Sneak peek. Look at him. 00:26:31.27 KC Oh my gosh, it's so 00:26:31.45 Jeri He's... 00:26:32.92 Kurt Crenwelge Whoa. 00:26:33.78 Jeri It's a little yellow beholder. 00:26:33.79 Kurt Crenwelge For our, yeah. 00:26:36.21 Jeri Because Casey's favorite color is yellow, so... 00:26:37.00 Kurt Crenwelge Yes. 00:26:39.88 Jeri And she loves beholders. 00:26:42.07 Kurt Crenwelge There we go. Yes. So our our audience are audio audience has to imagine that they're seeing a a tiny hand-sized ah yellow beholder. It's even got eye stalks with other eyes and one big eye and a little tiefies there at the bottom. 00:26:57.77 Kurt Crenwelge It's amazing. 00:26:57.97 Jeri Love him. 00:26:59.18 KC Does it have green eyes? Because I have green eyes. 00:27:01.99 Jeri Your eyes are blue-ish. 00:27:04.67 KC Okay. That's good and but information. 00:27:05.47 Jeri Are we going to argue about this right now? 00:27:07.95 KC Just to know that that's what that's your guess about eye color. 00:27:11.59 Jeri Your eyes are like that weird blue-green that's like, depending on what you're wearing in the light, they're just different colors. I'll just call them blue. 00:27:16.26 KC are I think they're green. The government thinks they're blue. My driver's license says they're blue. 00:27:19.69 Jeri The government thinks they're blue. 00:27:20.58 KC I don't feel like it's true. um My brother has blue eyes. Mine are definitely not the same color. 00:27:24.77 Jeri You guys have the same eye color. i don't know what you're talking about. 00:27:26.19 KC No, if that's not true. 00:27:31.04 KC Anyway. 00:27:31.37 Kurt Crenwelge Well, wonderful. Yeah. So ah there we go. we've We've made it once again through the personal interview section. And now it's time to head into some NPC creation. 00:27:49.03 Kurt Crenwelge And NPC Creation is brought to you by you, our podcast audience, and our patrons from Patreon. So now is the time of the show where we give a shout-out to our comfortable patrons at Above with a Loud Hurrah. 00:28:00.66 Kurt Crenwelge So to you, Anson Jablinski, and good old mom and dad, we say cheers. So again, this this shout-out is for all our patrons who donate at least $2 or more a month. 00:28:11.89 Kurt Crenwelge um The folks that I named here are actually among our wealthy-tier members, patrons which means they get to introduce an element of chance to our random tables which we might get to hear some of their responses used here today so if you want to learn more about what we have to offer on the patreon ah community you should check the show notes below go to the podcast website or just go directly to patreon.com forward slash sidekicks and sidequests to find out more about our four tiers of patronage that we have awaiting for you in the levitating platter Help us to grow and expand our operations in this demiplane and worlds beyond. 00:28:46.92 Kurt Crenwelge Alright, so last time you were here on the show, you were you were making and and sharing us ah like your your character personas. you know Here today, we have creation and death, so we have like the bookends of of the five sated fates with us today. But um are we going to be ah perhaps indulging in some chaos and random dice rolls today to perhaps randomize some new NPCs today? 00:29:15.04 KC Well, actually what we thought about was, so technically the fates exist in a universe of TTRPG 00:29:20.35 Jeri Exactly. 00:29:25.72 KC that exists in the Speedy RPG world, which is the card game that we created. So we thought we could flesh out some of the NPCs that also exist within the world of Speedy RPG that you can play as if you play Speedy RPG. 00:29:40.72 KC They're in the decks. You can see them. 00:29:42.45 Kurt Crenwelge o Okay, so that's how you'd like to do. So we'll work our way through the questions and we will reveal and discover um one of the characters from Speedy RPG. 00:29:56.89 KC Yes. Or two, if you would like us to do two. Jerry and I did discuss that we could do two characters, because we both have one that we wanted to do. 00:30:00.03 Jeri We have two. 00:30:04.18 KC That are, yeah, that are in the decks. 00:30:05.26 Jeri That are in speedy RPG. 00:30:05.45 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah. 00:30:08.64 Jeri And also in our home game that Casey DMs. 00:30:12.28 KC Yes. Which is also where a lot of the lore of all of our worlds and speedy RPG comes from. It's from by my own noggin. 00:30:18.56 Kurt Crenwelge Okay. 00:30:21.67 Kurt Crenwelge There we go. Okay, that's that's perfect. Okay, so we're going to be introduced to two of the NPCs that you can encounter within the Speedy RPG game. That you can then take and introduce into your own home game or your own character backstory for the next D&D game that you're going to pop in. 00:30:39.66 Kurt Crenwelge Perfect. Okay. All right. So then as we work our way through the questions, first one, what's the name of each of the characters? 00:30:48.84 KC So I'll be talking about OSHA, which is spelled O-S-S-H-A. That's why it's OSHA and not OSHA. And she gets really, really upset if you refer to her as OSHA. She does not like it. 00:31:01.00 Jeri And it's also spelled in all caps with periods in between because it's an acronym. 00:31:01.42 KC So it is all caps with periods in between. Yeah, because it's an acronym and it stands for or Organic Steam System Hybrid Automaton. 00:31:13.24 Kurt Crenwelge Okay. 00:31:13.51 KC And mix but and you that name will make sense as we continue to explain more about who she is as a person. 00:31:20.43 Kurt Crenwelge Perfect. And then Jerry, who are you bringing? 00:31:23.46 Jeri and i My character is Princess Mynera. 00:31:28.33 Kurt Crenwelge How do I spell my Neera? 00:31:30.72 Jeri M-Y-N-E-E-R-A. 00:31:34.65 Kurt Crenwelge Okay, so Asha and Princess Minera. Perfect, okay. 00:31:39.87 KC And if you look actually in the game of speedy RPG, Princess Mineira is known as the Ocean Princess in speedy RPG. 00:31:39.94 Kurt Crenwelge And then... 00:31:47.03 Jeri That is true. 00:31:49.23 Kurt Crenwelge Ah, her subtitle, The Ocean Princess. 00:31:51.01 Jeri The ocean princess. 00:31:51.66 KC Yes. 00:31:54.13 Kurt Crenwelge Okay, well, sorry, now I'm just thinking of Asha, Osha, Princess Minera, The Ocean Princess. I was like, some joke waiting about like, oh, this is Asha's 11 or something like that. 00:32:04.39 KC Well, there's actually a lot of, like, hilarity that was created by these two characters which were created by the two of us completely separate from one another and then as the story went on it was like what weird coincidences that this was like this when it yeah which is you can't make up D&D like no matter what you do it's gonna feel like it was all pre-written 00:32:27.93 Kurt Crenwelge oh Perfect. Okay. 00:32:30.38 KC there's so much coincidence in D&D 00:32:33.22 Kurt Crenwelge Well, then it it sounds like we're getting a preview here, just even based on the name alone or like what the card is in the speedy RPG game. But what is the ancestry of each of these characters? 00:32:45.33 KC So Asha is human, but when she was a child, she was in an accident on a ship. And when she was rescued, she had lost both of her legs. 00:32:58.75 KC And she was rescued by a ship full of automaton pirates who then built her automaton legs. And so she was so young in this accident, she didn't know what her name was when they found her. 00:33:12.36 KC And so after she was kind of put back together, she named herself Asha and gave herself this because everyone else on the pirate ship also has ridiculous names. 00:33:18.84 Kurt Crenwelge you 00:33:21.70 KC And some of them are also in Sweetie RPG, like Robertitis and no Cash Bartholomew. 00:33:25.79 Jeri And no cast no cash Bartholomew. 00:33:28.28 KC Yeah, the other some of the other pirates. um So she ended up naming herself the organic steam system hybrid automaton because she felt like She was never raised by humans. She was raised all by automatons. 00:33:39.66 KC So in her heart, she feels like she's an automaton and as well. She never really met or befriended humans until she met the party, including Mineira. And then she was like, oh, this what real people are like. 00:33:50.66 Jeri Where we jumped out of a floating city and basically landed in her ship. 00:33:56.63 KC In the ocean next to her ship, 00:33:56.67 Jeri And the first time and the ocean then she was like, hey, you guys need help? And we said, yeah, probably. 00:34:02.59 Kurt Crenwelge Wow. 00:34:04.28 Jeri Lots of lore. 00:34:04.87 KC a great time. We love her. Poor job. 00:34:06.91 Kurt Crenwelge Lore drop. 00:34:07.90 Jeri Lore drop. um My Neera is, you would assume a human. 00:34:16.67 Jeri You would assume that just by looking at her, but not she's not. She's actually... a changeling whose mother is a blood hag and she's kind of like an eldritch horror underneath the princess facade. 00:34:31.07 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, so, so, okay. 00:34:32.08 Jeri Yeah. 00:34:34.32 Kurt Crenwelge So a changeling, so a changeling as opposed to like a hex blood or something like that. 00:34:38.09 Jeri Yes. It was, um, I wanted to go with the, like, classical, like, folklore of changelings where they are swapped at birth with, like, a fey child. 00:34:48.13 Kurt Crenwelge Mm. 00:34:48.34 Jeri So, like, so mine is the fey child, a changeling and then the real princess was swapped um when they were babies. 00:34:56.84 Kurt Crenwelge Ah. 00:34:57.06 Jeri And that that was the first thing that I thought whenever we met Asha, because Asha looks very similar and is the same age as Mineira. And I was like, that's the real princess. 00:35:08.49 Jeri That was in my head the whole time because I knew my character wasn't the real princess because I told her that that was what was happening. And I was like, this is the real princess. And I believed that for so long that Asha was actually My Nira, like, swapped. 00:35:22.64 KC Because ironically, we made two very similar looking characters, which had which we know that was not planned at all. 00:35:29.22 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. 00:35:29.26 KC And i didn't like I had created Asha long before anyone in this campaign had given me characters. 00:35:29.40 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. 00:35:34.33 KC And so then, of course, when Jerry's like, I want to be ah switched at birth changeling with red hair. And I was like, oh, no she's going to think that Asha is the real princess. And that's immediately what everyone thought. 00:35:44.66 Jeri Yeah, my my first note was that I wrote down Asha, automaton, real princess. Those are my notes. 00:35:50.37 Kurt Crenwelge ah 00:35:50.72 Jeri Verbatim in my notebook. 00:35:53.35 Kurt Crenwelge And then, of course, as a good DM, you're like, well, if this is where the players want to go, you had to completely change your plans and be like, well, you found me. 00:36:01.77 Jeri Nope, because the real princess... 00:36:01.96 KC um In a lot of cases, I do. But in this case, it didn't make sense to do that because Asha was already, like, secretly a part of something else that they didn't know yet. 00:36:14.31 Kurt Crenwelge Oh. 00:36:15.21 KC I was like, I can't change that. So, because I would, because I was like, oh man, that would have been awesome. 00:36:17.07 Kurt Crenwelge I see. 00:36:20.63 KC I could have done that. But I didn't even know. 00:36:22.02 Kurt Crenwelge Right. 00:36:22.82 KC But I was like, wish she already had this whole, like, extra lore. So, but they have now officially met the real princess and She's great. I love her to death. The party does not. 00:36:31.76 Jeri i She's my enemy. 00:36:36.83 Kurt Crenwelge Ah. 00:36:36.90 KC Yeah, she is is the party's mortal enemy, for sure. 00:36:40.20 Jeri That's true. 00:36:40.35 Kurt Crenwelge I see. Okay, alright, so we have a knight, so we've got an automaton, or a human that's raised by automatons, and then we have a changeling who is appears as a human. 00:36:50.73 Jeri who Who was raised as a human. She didn't even know she was a changeling. 00:36:54.37 Kurt Crenwelge Oh. 00:36:54.57 Jeri until she Until she met her real mother. 00:36:58.48 Kurt Crenwelge Ah. 00:36:58.80 Jeri And then she was like, that's what's wrong with me. 00:37:02.59 Kurt Crenwelge Okay. All right. Now. Okay. Yes. Yes. Thank you for the, uh, the, the distinction. 00:37:05.75 KC people People are happening here. 00:37:08.03 Jeri So much lore. 00:37:09.81 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah. Okay. Perfect. Uh, this also, I mean, this sounds like, uh, we've already kind of covered it a little bit or we could expand on it. But the next question here being what's your character's job or role in society? 00:37:23.06 KC So Asha is a pirate. She is part of a a pirate group of automatons that are um pirates that attack other pirate ships. and destroy other pirate ships. So they're pirates for good question mark, you know, whatever you think about that. 00:37:39.49 KC Um, so she pretty much was, she was not the the captain of the ship she was on while she was growing up, obviously. Um, but now she does have her own ship. 00:37:49.80 KC Actually, she has her own spaceship. She has a spell jammer pirate ship that can go both in water and the astral sea. 00:37:54.65 Kurt Crenwelge oh 00:37:58.62 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, yeah. 00:37:58.93 KC Um, 00:37:59.38 Kurt Crenwelge I've done something very similar for my world as well. I was like, oh, well, I mean, if ah people from the Astral Sea are trading with people in the mundane world, their ships probably you know travel in the sky and also go in the water. 00:38:11.98 Kurt Crenwelge um So very much a you know treasure planet sort of ah inspiration idea. Yeah. 00:38:18.05 KC yeah yeah so my my world is very like steampunk style so she's very like steampunk themed in her ah you know her automaton look um and so she now has yeah a very cool automaton spell jammer spaceship kind of thing so but she is definitely the like she somehow is like the voice of reason kind of character um because I feel like she grew up with a lot of you know, strict, like, automaton, like, ideas, and so when she met people, she had very, like, rigid ideas of how the world worked, so she was very much, like, voice of reason to the group, but now she's, she's relaxed on that a little bit, because now she's realized, like, the world is chaos, and so it's okay to be a little bit more chaotic, but she's she's a very helpful ah assistant in the game. She could kind of be your, like, 00:39:10.45 KC ah transport you know I feel like in every game you have like a high-level NPC that's your transportation. Like, oh, we got to call up Essek from Critical Role so he can teleport us somewhere. 00:39:15.08 Kurt Crenwelge Right. Right. 00:39:18.41 Kurt Crenwelge right 00:39:18.40 KC So it's like, oh, we need to get from point A to point B. Is Asha around? Does she have her ship nearby? Can we drive it into the whirlpool in the center of the ocean? Can we take it to the Bermuda Triangle and try to you know solve a puzzle, which you know did happen and the game? 00:39:28.89 Kurt Crenwelge right 00:39:30.60 KC So she's good about that kind stuff. 00:39:34.65 Jeri And my Neera is ah princess, I'm saying in air quotes. That's her job. Princess. She won't tell you anything else. And the whole party in real life didn't know what class she was for six months. 00:39:50.78 Jeri Because every time they're like, what are you playing? And I'm like, I'm playing a princess. And that was it. I would never, I renamed all my spells, all my abilities. 00:39:56.77 KC no 00:39:59.81 Jeri um I was a princess. That was it. She's a princess. 00:40:05.02 Kurt Crenwelge a And you'll still carry those secrets to your grave. 00:40:09.42 Jeri Yes, she is still, she doesn't know anything else. She actually doesn't have a job. She's just there. 00:40:16.52 KC but That was kind of always like the, like my nearest point was like that whole idea in D&D where like, are your characters aware of their abilities? and what Like, you know, like, lizards, they study to learn magic, so they understand it. Like, but sorcerers, or like, you know, warlocks who make a pact on accident, like, do some of them, like, fully comprehend? 00:40:34.54 KC Or like, bards, it's like, oh I played my guitar well, and then someone died. Like, i don't understand how works. 00:40:38.10 Kurt Crenwelge Ah. 00:40:39.65 Jeri Yeah, so I'm really living on the, like, she doesn't have the word for, like, really she's a ah warlock, and um but she doesn't have that word. 00:40:39.71 KC So, I feel like my... 00:40:48.11 Jeri Like, she never, like, the pact was made when she was very little, she doesn't remember, and so she's just like, yeah, I'm a princess, because she doesn't have a word for what she is, which is, she's kind of evil, but in a fun way. 00:41:00.77 KC Eldritch horror. 00:41:02.45 Jeri Eldritch whore, so many tentacles. 00:41:06.06 Kurt Crenwelge ah 00:41:06.21 Jeri her Her real job is tentacle. 00:41:11.49 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, what was it? ah You know, the ah the Seth Graham Green, I think, did the series of parody books and there was the cover of like Sense and Sensibility, but they did it where it was like Sense sense and Sensibility and squids or something like that. 00:41:23.27 KC And sensibility and theme music. 00:41:25.32 Jeri Yeah. 00:41:25.58 Kurt Crenwelge So that's what Princess Minera is. 00:41:25.64 Jeri 100%. Yes. 00:41:28.49 Kurt Crenwelge It's like squidly monster. 00:41:28.76 Jeri 100%. in cute dress. 00:41:31.46 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah. 00:41:31.50 Jeri Yes. 00:41:32.21 KC But in a cute dress. 00:41:32.56 Jeri hundred percent but in the cute dress 00:41:33.78 Kurt Crenwelge But in a cute dress. Very Jane Austen. Very appropriate. 00:41:37.03 Jeri yes 00:41:39.55 Kurt Crenwelge Okay, alright, so we got their idea of what their job or role in society supposed to be. How old are each of these ah fine ladies? 00:41:48.69 KC Asha's in her, I think, late 20s, I think is kind of how I feel like I never gave her like an exact age. She's probably late twenty s 00:41:56.05 Jeri Yeah. So is Mynera. Mynera's in her early twenties. She was a little bit younger, but she was also put to sleep magically and locked in a tower because her parents found out she wasn't the real princess. 00:42:00.64 Kurt Crenwelge Mmm. 00:42:08.53 Jeri So she kind of is like mentally not quite as old as she is physically, but she will never admit that, that she's confused by everything that's happening around her at all times. 00:42:13.30 Kurt Crenwelge Interesting. 00:42:18.63 Jeri So she's, 00:42:18.78 KC Yeah. And Asha doesn't know exactly how old she is either because she was rescued when she was like a small child, but she doesn't know how old exactly she was when she was rescued. So she's like, I've been cognizant of my life for over, you know, 25, 26 years, but how old am I on top of that? 00:42:37.73 Kurt Crenwelge interesting 00:42:38.38 Jeri I guess technically Mynera would be the same way because she doesn't remember before she was swapped. 00:42:43.53 Kurt Crenwelge Ha ha ha ha. 00:42:45.04 Jeri Because the whole campaign is surrounding the god of memories, making people forget things. So technically Mynera didn't even remember anything from before. So she could be older. 00:42:56.27 Jeri I could be 100 years old. I don't actually know. I'll have a crisis about that later. 00:43:03.33 Kurt Crenwelge All right. ah So now for the next question, you know, if we're rolling dice, I get to say, and I would take a pause on the dice rolling because now we need to describe the physical appearance of our characters. So, you know, you were giving us some hints before, but certainly now the point the point to add ah the concrete details. So when we're picturing these characters, what are we seeing? 00:43:25.79 KC And I know we're saying picturing these characters because we're on an audio medium right now. But in theory, when you guys are listening to this podcast, there are actual physical pictures of what these characters look like because Jerry and I have cosplayed as these characters. 00:43:40.53 KC So we have real life examples of what they look like that you can find on the internet or this podcast. 00:43:46.23 Kurt Crenwelge Ah, yes. 00:43:46.62 KC Yeah. 00:43:47.17 Kurt Crenwelge That means I will need to put them in the show notes. 00:43:47.21 KC people you all 00:43:49.13 Kurt Crenwelge So you can check the show notes and you can get an actual look at what Asha and ah and the princess look like. 00:43:57.05 KC Yeah, so Asha, she has automaton legs, so from like mid-thigh down are like copper-looking, like articulated legs. 00:44:07.61 KC Think kind of like Auto Male from Full Metal Alchemist, but steampunk? 00:44:10.80 Kurt Crenwelge I was going to say C-3PO. 00:44:13.64 KC Sure, yeah, a Star Wars. 00:44:14.40 Jeri Casey's never seen Star Wars. She doesn't know who that is. 00:44:17.87 Kurt Crenwelge What? 00:44:17.99 KC I know who C-3PO is, that's the gold humanoid-shaped one. 00:44:21.51 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah. 00:44:23.30 Jeri But she's never... 00:44:23.36 Kurt Crenwelge I am C-3PO, Human-Cyborg Relations. 00:44:23.49 KC I've seen it he's tall. 00:44:27.17 KC Yeah. So, but it's very much like a her legs have been cobbled by like metals she's found on the ocean as time has gone on. So they've been, you know, changed over and over again as she's grown up. She's had to you know, make them longer, continue to adjust to them um as time goes on. 00:44:42.52 KC um But she has um orange hair, like fangs, you know, windswept hair um and freckles. She's usually wearing a pirate hat and some sort of cool pirate coat that she has acquired, maybe from another pirate that she has, you know, murdered in the past. 00:45:02.89 KC um 00:45:03.18 Kurt Crenwelge oh 00:45:03.82 KC And she always wears like shorts or short skirts because she likes to show off her legs. She likes people to see that she has really cool automaton legs because she wants people to know, you know, that she's part automaton. 00:45:14.06 KC Yeah. And then everyone on the automaton ship wears leather shoes because the ship that she grew up on is also an automaton. So it was a ship made of metal. So all the metal automatons had to wear little leather shoes or else it'd be really loud running around on the metal ship. 00:45:30.84 Kurt Crenwelge I see. i was just thinking, I just had a terrible pun or joke come up as far as like you were like explaining, oh, she likes to wear shorts or skirts, you know, to show off her legs and, you know, steampunks. I'm thinking of like, ah you know, like a mid mid-Atlantic sort of voice. And so I was just, you know, some other pirate being like, wow, look at the gams on that gal or something like that as they're looking at the but the metal legs of of Asha. 00:45:56.22 KC Yes, we did have a great moment in game where one of the other characters was like, you have really great legs. For now. And it's like, wait, gonna say it like that. have to take my legs. Don't steal my legs. I need these to get around. 00:46:08.89 KC so 00:46:08.95 Kurt Crenwelge There was no rocket raccoon that was like, go steal those legs and I'll help you. 00:46:13.67 Jeri Oh, there was. 00:46:13.87 KC Not yet. 00:46:13.97 Jeri her name is Her name was Sire and it was her aunt. 00:46:16.38 KC ah well, that that's true. 00:46:17.53 Jeri And she took her legs. 00:46:19.83 KC That is true. you She did have her legs taken. She was captured by an enemy and they had to be rescued and they took her legs so she couldn't get away. 00:46:27.45 KC So, but she also has like a cool, ah so she is an artificer. 00:46:28.26 Kurt Crenwelge there you go. 00:46:33.41 KC And so she, the way I kind of decided in my mind, because artificers, you know, have spells as well. as if she has like an artificer, um like bracer contraption that she wears. And that is what all of her spells are used through. So it's all like scientifically created. She like has, you know blasters. 00:46:51.39 KC And also she, her legs are cannons. because she's the cannon artificer, so she when she like bends her knees, the ends of her knees come out and turn into cannons, so she can flask people with cannons through her legs. 00:47:03.41 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, so doing Terror Planet, like but instead of like the M16 machine gun leg, it's like, ahoy, my cannon leg! 00:47:11.48 KC Yeah, pretty much. It's like, oh, just when we run up to someone, it's like, oh, this girl, she doesn't have anything, and just like, crack a leg, hits someone with a cannonball. So yeah, she can handle herself, even though she just looks like a cute girl. 00:47:24.79 KC which is also how my mirror is. 00:47:26.72 Jeri Yes. um My Nira, also a redhead. not We did not plan that. ah She doesn't have bangs, though. 00:47:32.58 KC ah 00:47:33.80 Jeri um And she is very... like really into her appearance way too much. It's like what she relies on 100% of the time is just like being hot enough where people just believe what she says because like obviously I'm a princess who else could be this cute? 00:47:47.30 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. 00:47:49.64 Jeri It's because she's a changeling and she can look like whatever she wants. um She likes to wear really extravagant outfits. Honestly anytime we go to a new town she goes shopping and changes her outfits or her outfit changes all the time, but the version of her that I like to cosplay is just a very long medieval kind of Tudor-style court dress. like Just a big, giant, obnoxious dress with lots of embroidery and a hoop skirt and... 00:48:21.81 KC really convenient for fighting. 00:48:23.69 Jeri really convenient for fighting. She wears she wears like high-heeled boots. um Eventually, she has switched pants in recent times, but... um She's really a dress girl. 00:48:34.57 KC didn't like it. 00:48:35.56 Jeri Yeah, she doesn't like it. She's not really into the pants, but she did because the party kept making fun of her for wearing dresses everywhere. So she's like, fine, I'll buy pants. And then I could only find pants that were on the rack. I couldn't make get custom pants made, so she constantly complains about these pants being off the rack and not couture pants. 00:48:52.86 Jeri um But... For... 00:48:54.85 Kurt Crenwelge She wasn't able to do like a princess peach maneuver where she would just like her dress would come out and she'd be able to like fly down or gently walk down. 00:49:01.82 Jeri ah for A while she did have the ability to fly, but she got rid of that because of relationship problems. 00:49:12.42 Jeri Too much lore. But um yeah, she's just... 00:49:13.71 Kurt Crenwelge ah 00:49:14.66 Jeri a 00:49:14.83 KC And but you're missing out like a very obvious part of your character. 00:49:19.96 Jeri Oh no, she doesn't like to talk about that. 00:49:20.47 KC Okay. Okay. 00:49:22.61 Jeri she said She's also recently lost an arm. So Asha created her an automaton arm, but since she's, uh, all her magic is like tentacle ocean based, she has a tentacle arm. 00:49:31.28 Kurt Crenwelge Ah! 00:49:37.65 Jeri So she has a metal tentacle arm, but, um, 00:49:39.23 Kurt Crenwelge ah 00:49:42.55 KC that's made from the jewels in your princess crown. 00:49:44.82 Jeri From her Princess Tiara. That was when she decided she can't pretend to be a princess anymore because she lost her arm. And then right after that, lost her eye. and so she's like, I can't get away with people thinking I'm just like this perfect princess. So I'm just going to melt down my crown and make it into a metal arm. 00:50:01.12 Jeri So she has a very bedazzled, ah fancy platinum tentacle arm. 00:50:08.47 Kurt Crenwelge And then does she wear an eye patch because of the missing eye? 00:50:08.48 Jeri And... 00:50:11.92 Jeri The eye was, like, taken by, i don't even, I had to, like, give up a part of my body to complete a quest or something like that. And they took my eye And so it had ah yeah, like, a whited out eye 00:50:22.73 KC but so it was It was like whited out like it was blind. 00:50:26.75 Kurt Crenwelge okay. 00:50:27.01 Jeri And, but it could see through, i could do, I could see through walls, like, once a day for, like, 10 minutes or something like that. I had, like, some 00:50:35.68 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, I see. 00:50:36.51 Jeri Some ability. ghost Ghostly gaze? Is that the one it is? It's a warlock ability. But then, recently, she talked to the god of the sea and made a different pact with her and got a different eye, so now she has one really bright green eye and then one regular green eye. 00:50:51.31 Jeri And those things she cannot change with her changeling abilities. So she can changeling, but she still has a missing arm and and a weird eye. Because the missing arm was because technically she should have died. 00:50:58.38 Kurt Crenwelge Interesting. 00:51:03.14 Jeri And I literally... begged KC so hard. We were playing D&D in the woods in December. It was so cold and I died. 00:51:14.86 Jeri in real 00:51:15.11 KC And we were playing outdoor by a campfire, very like picturesque way to play D&D, and I did almost permakill you. 00:51:15.57 Jeri and yeah 00:51:22.47 Jeri Yeah. Yeah. I ah i got disintegrated Ray from ah beholder. 00:51:28.36 Kurt Crenwelge Oh. 00:51:29.54 KC a death tyrant. 00:51:29.77 Jeri But yeah. 00:51:31.02 Kurt Crenwelge ah the death time and beholder. Oh, yeah, that's bad news. 00:51:32.37 Jeri Yeah. And on our previous campaign, my character in that campaign also died from KC bringing out a beholder. 00:51:33.88 KC Yeah. 00:51:41.45 KC Yeah, that one was like the kill- like the kill array, not the disintegration one, but the one that just takes you to zero. 00:51:41.59 Jeri So I was like, you can't kill me twice. Yeah, that one was the, yeah. My poor little wizard. 00:51:48.34 KC So, her body was there, but she was dead. 00:51:51.26 Jeri Yeah, so it's like, you can't kill me in two campaigns back to back with a beholder. And I had a lot of reasons. I really talked my way out of it. So she's like, I'll take just your arm. It's like, okay, I'll live with that. 00:52:02.66 KC I'm i'm a benevolent god, so I allowed it. And I knew, honestly, that taking an arm from this character 00:52:06.74 Jeri Because technically, 00:52:10.24 Jeri it's worse than death. 00:52:11.62 KC was worse than death because she was so vain about her appearance so to like make because I basically was like if you want to survive you're gonna lose a limb and that limb will always be gone no matter what you do in changeling form like I'm that's the barter system that we have here and she was like okay that's okay then i said great 00:52:14.86 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. 00:52:27.87 Jeri Yeah, because I really did not want my character to die. But I did have a good excuse. Another character had just been turned to stone, and he was protecting me with his body. So technically, was, like, underneath his body made out of stone. So was like, could it really hit me? 00:52:41.87 Jeri Like, really? So maybe it just got my arm. 00:52:44.97 Kurt Crenwelge And then I'm sure your friend is arguing like, wait a minute, I'm made of stone and the stone's going to get disintegrated. 00:52:45.08 Jeri So... 00:52:50.21 Kurt Crenwelge That means there's no way that you're going to be able to un-petrify me and me still be alive. 00:52:56.13 Jeri He died sometimes. 00:52:56.39 KC It was fun. 00:52:57.29 Jeri It's fine. 00:52:58.44 KC but 00:52:59.08 Jeri He dies all the time. 00:53:01.00 KC That character has died the most often in this game. 00:53:04.20 Jeri Once of old age. 00:53:05.96 KC Once of old age. 00:53:08.18 Kurt Crenwelge There we go. And then we all for role playing purposes, which, of course, you've been playing these characters and you know them well, but if someone else is going to use them, what three adjectives would you use to describe ah Asha and Princess Mineira? 00:53:27.18 KC I'd say Asha is definitely like a problem solver, not only coming from being like an artificer, but also like you know being on a ship where you have limited resources. um So she's definitely going to be like the first one to... like And she's also got a 20 intelligence from being an artificer, so like she's going to be the one to come up with a solution to something. 00:53:45.62 KC um and I feel like she's very... I feel like it's spunky the right word. She's very much like the can-do attitude, like not going to let anything get her down um kind of person. 00:53:49.84 Kurt Crenwelge Thank you. 00:53:58.88 KC a good third one 00:54:02.97 Jeri I mean, she's the leader. She's the captain. 00:54:06.03 KC that's true yeah i yeah leader is a good too yeah she's definitely like she had a whole character arc of going from being like she was always pretending to be the captain of the ship growing up and like obviously she was like you know 15 she's like i'm the captain of the ship and people are like no you're not obviously you're a child um and now she's like transit then she had a whole arc of like 00:54:20.89 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. 00:54:25.15 KC Maybe I'm not good enough actually to be the captain of the ship. Maybe I actually am just like of hot air. um But now I think she's, you know, really coming to our own. So I think that she does have a lot of those leadership qualities. So yeah, I would say that's a good one. 00:54:37.85 KC She's 00:54:40.29 Jeri And Mynira is... 00:54:42.27 KC going to be a liar. 00:54:43.94 Jeri She's a liar. But only for herself. She's not really lying for other people. It's only for her own gain. She's a liar to keep herself safe. And she's very vain. 00:54:54.07 Kurt Crenwelge Hmm. Hmm. 00:54:57.01 Jeri and she's so deeply, desperately lonely. She just wants to be loved. 00:55:03.02 Kurt Crenwelge Hmm. 00:55:03.40 Jeri That's her secret... ah That's her deep dark secret. 00:55:06.43 KC Like motivation, I feel like. 00:55:07.40 Jeri Yeah, her motivation is she's literally only around because she's afraid to be by herself. She doesn't want to be alone. So she's just like constantly following the party around because she doesn't have anywhere else to go. And it makes her very sad. 00:55:20.26 Jeri She's a sad character, but plays it off as being just a hot princess with so much money. She's so rich. 00:55:26.45 Kurt Crenwelge you 00:55:27.41 Jeri She's not. She's none of those things. Well, she's kind of rich. We did raid a dragon horde and she so all she convinced the party to let her keep all the money somehow. I don't know how she did that. 00:55:36.54 KC Yeah. You're party treasurer for some reason. No. 00:55:39.58 Jeri But I don't give anyone else any money. And I spend it on fancy wine and clothes and my boyfriend. 00:55:44.87 KC Yeah. 00:55:47.59 Kurt Crenwelge All right. And then, of course, we like all of our NPCs to be able to have something cool on their person. So, you know, you knowing both of these characters well, um what's a valuable item, piece of lore, secret or ideal or concept that each character ascribes to? I know since you, you know, you both know these characters very well, you know, there's a couple of items, you know, maybe, you know, like, oh, they have we You were mentioning and like, oh okay, well, obviously we have the ah automaton legs or we have the artifice tentacle robot arm. You know, it could be a couple of items, but, you know, what's a valuable item, piece of lore, secret, ideal or concept that each ah character might ascribe to you? What counts as their valuables, if you will? 00:56:33.28 KC Um, I mean, for, um I mean, in like the, the lame way for Asha, it's like her mind, like being able to like, like, that's the thing that she is thinks is the most valuable about herself. She would always say like, that's the most important like thing she can bring to the table. 00:56:48.81 KC Um, but I was thinking, so because she grew up on a ship of automatons, she was the only like person that had to breathe. So when she was put on this ship at a young age, the captain um basically mounted rune to the ship that allowed it to cast water breathing. 00:57:08.19 KC So if anything ever happened to Asha and she went overboard, that it would be able to cast water breathing on her and she would survive. And so when she left behind this ship, she actually like took off the piece of metal that that rune was attached to and she attached it to herself so that she could like continue to ah like survive out on the ocean. And she's used it several times on the party. 00:57:29.29 KC Um, to keep them alive while they were traveling about. So that's like I don't know, random piece of lore that I feel like we kind of talked about in game a little bit, but like that's the reason why she has those kind of abilities. 00:57:42.78 KC It's because her pirate dad wanted to keep her safe on the water. 00:57:46.99 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, we love pirate dad. 00:57:47.55 Jeri How adorable. 00:57:48.75 KC He's a great guy. 00:57:50.16 Jeri We love pirate dads. 00:57:50.16 KC Yeah, he's a great guy. Captain Goldtooth, I think it's his name. 00:57:54.38 Jeri You don't know the name of your own dad? 00:57:56.29 KC Yeah, that's that's what it is, Captain Goldtooth. 00:57:56.71 Jeri Your own NPC? 00:57:58.13 KC Yeah. Got one big old team. 00:58:00.07 Jeri ah Yeah. Mineera, before, her original most important thing was her princess tiara that she wore literally everywhere. She was being hunted for being the missing princess, but she still would not take off that stupid tiara. 00:58:14.25 Jeri But she has melted it down into her arm now, so her most valuable possession now would probably be the um plane shift necklace that she has that she stole off of her arch nemesis, the real princess. 00:58:29.69 Jeri Because the real princess tried to kidnap her boyfriend by using this necklace to plain shift him away. And they ended up basically almost killing her. We decided not to kill her in the end, but she stole her necklace. So that's like her prized possession is this necklace. Because it's like the one thing that she's ever done that was good. It's like, I accomplished something. 00:58:50.05 Jeri And she stole it from her arch nemesis, who she secretly wants to be best friends with, but we won't talk about that either. um So she loves this necklace. And someone else in the party used it and then wouldn't give it back, so she definitely killed his pet bird because he wouldn't give the necklace back. 00:59:06.07 Jeri And she feels homunculus bird. 00:59:06.22 KC A homunculus bird. So, like, not a real bird. that could It was a bird that could be fixed. A bird made of metal. 00:59:11.63 Jeri But she would have killed a real bird. She didn't care. That necklace was important to her. 00:59:18.12 Kurt Crenwelge Wow. Inter-party drama. 00:59:20.56 Jeri Lots of inner party drama in this campaign. 00:59:22.91 KC Yeah, maybe the ah in 00:59:23.44 Kurt Crenwelge guess as long as you all talked it through... 00:59:25.73 Jeri Oh, yeah. 00:59:26.26 KC yeah 00:59:27.08 Jeri We're all having a great time with the drama. 00:59:27.40 KC amulet needs to end up in the new deck of Speedy RPG. We need to throw that in there as a new item. 00:59:33.24 Jeri Yeah. 00:59:34.60 KC So people can flop around. 00:59:34.69 Jeri We can do that. 00:59:38.14 Kurt Crenwelge Perfect. Okay, so everyone's got their valuable. And then, of course, we get to the question, you know, here. We've got our NPC, but now we want our NPC to be able to offer up a side quest. So, you know, it stands to reason that, you know, each character is you know, independent. So I would totally believe that... um you know I wouldn't expect Asha and Princess Minera team up and have like a side quest they would offer you together. So it sounds like maybe each one is offering their own side quest. So what's a particular quest that ah each character would be willing to offer ah you know to the party to recruit them, hire them for some adventure or scheme? 01:00:17.77 KC Um, I, because Asha is, you know, she has her own ship now, um, and she can kind of go wherever she wants. Um, I think, you know generically she could be, you know, the one to take you to any important location, but specifically in, um, the world of the fates, uh, I think she would be the one that would, well, I mean, she did do this in the campaign, but there's a, a very ominous whirlpool that exists in the center of the ocean, 01:00:26.28 Kurt Crenwelge you 01:00:44.94 KC where magic is messed up and it's a perpetual storm and there's all these rumors about what this ah what this eye could be. They call it the Raven's Eye um and what could be at the center of the storm. 01:00:58.40 KC And she would be willing to take a party of skilled adventurers on a quest to go into the center of the eye of the storm to see what it might hold for them, good or bad. 01:01:09.36 Kurt Crenwelge Ah, so like the movie Twister. It's like we're going to go hunt this giant storm and and see what we can see inside. 01:01:17.38 KC Yes. She's perfectly willing to destroy her ship if it must be for the sake of like learning something new. She wants to go on the the quest for her own self as well. If I bring some other people with me, maybe we'll survive, but there'll be something cool there, and I need to know this information. 01:01:35.47 Kurt Crenwelge okay 01:01:39.02 Jeri The Mineira, what would she send people to go do? um She sent people to go do literally anything for her. She does not want to do anything herself. um But the first thing I thought of is um there is this underground place where there is a well of magic water that shows dreams. 01:01:58.57 Jeri There's a guy there. ah don't remember his actual name. What we call him is not very nice. 01:02:03.88 KC I don't 01:02:04.24 Jeri so um But there is this magical like dream water. And she is... just She has decided that she's is not a real princess anymore, that she wants to become the princess of dreams. 01:02:15.50 Jeri So she has the ability to cast dream, and this water makes it more powerful, so she wants more of it. So she would send the party to go um down into this cavern below the city to collect more water from this magical spring so she can do more dream shenanigans, torment more people. 01:02:33.19 Kurt Crenwelge Ah. Okay. And then, of course, there's a guardian of it that the you know that they'll have to contend with or some such thing. 01:02:42.65 Jeri some little let Some little dungeon crawl in there. i wish I remembered the guy's name that we had in the game that was there. 01:02:47.90 KC I'm sure I could. 01:02:48.23 Jeri him We the dream pervert, because this guy was way too into watching other people's dreams and we're like, there's nothing wrong with this guy. But I don't remember what his 01:02:56.69 KC In the same way that anyone who casts Dream is spying on other people's dreams, it's not like it's a new concept. 01:03:00.18 Jeri name was. 01:03:01.52 KC People are in each other's dreams all the time. 01:03:02.90 Jeri But he yeah was weird about it though. I didn't like him. 01:03:06.25 KC i mean, you can say whatever you want. 01:03:10.03 Jeri So, quest for some dream water. 01:03:12.84 KC Dream water. 01:03:13.31 Kurt Crenwelge Okay. Yeah, I don't know if I was readily familiar with the... Okay, it's a fifth oh fifth level illusion spell. Okay. 01:03:22.53 KC You're not familiar with the green spell, the greatest spell in D&D? 01:03:22.87 Kurt Crenwelge yeah i can't say I can't say that I am. 01:03:26.10 Jeri Dream is so good. 01:03:28.96 Kurt Crenwelge I've never had to use it, or I've i've never... well i and 01:03:31.21 Jeri you can kill You can kill somebody with it. Casey has killed somebody with the dream spell in our other campaign. Because you can make them take levels of exhaustion. So if you get if you dream people over and over again, there's also no way to trace it and there's no way to stop it. 01:03:41.87 Kurt Crenwelge oh 01:03:44.08 KC You can give them nightmares. 01:03:49.99 Jeri So you don't know who's casting dream on you. 01:03:50.14 KC Yeah, you can't... Yeah, because anyone... 01:03:52.55 Jeri And you can't make it it... The other way to make it stop is not fall asleep. 01:03:55.73 KC yeah because you can appear to be anyone in their dream. um And you can also send anyone else. you know If you have the dream spell, you can cast it on someone else and send them into a person's dream. So as long as the person dreams like or has to sleep, so if they're not like an elf, as long as they have the ability to sleep, you can dream them every single night and give them a nightmare every single night to where they don't get the long rest. 01:04:17.32 KC so ah long rest So you'll just like continue to rack up exhaustion on them until they die of just not being able to go to sleep. It's like a horrific spell that I feel like people are not taking advantage of. 01:04:29.18 Kurt Crenwelge It sounds like you ought to contact ah Dane and Ben, Benjamin, over at the Dispel Magic podcast and discuss the dream spell and all the ah implications that can be wrought with that spell. 01:04:43.01 Jeri I love the dream spell. I specifically did not take sending in this campaign and took the dream spell and that's what I use as my sending. So I use, I'm a warlock, so i take a short rest, have all my spell slots back, and then cast a dream three times. 01:04:56.69 Jeri Every night. 01:04:56.73 Kurt Crenwelge Because it is a fifth all illusion fifth level illusion spell. 01:04:56.99 KC yeah 01:05:00.74 Jeri Yeah, so I cast dream and that's how I talk to everybody. 01:05:02.13 KC may yeah And in 5th edition, before the new 2024 rules, there was a druid subclass called the Circle of Dreams ah where you get 01:05:10.59 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. 01:05:12.27 KC like you get to It really actually is a bad subclass. Don't play it. It's not better than other Druid subclasses, but I only play bad characters. and so ah But you get the dream spell, I think, once a day for free on top of how many times you can cast it normally, and you get some other cool, weird, dreamy stuff. 01:05:27.99 KC But that's why like i had taken it for this whole dream ambiance and then yeah then realized very quickly, oh, a person we can't find and we want to kill? What if I just dreamed them six nights in a row? 01:05:40.63 KC And then just I kept just describing these horrific dreams I was giving to this person until we just, you know, it's dark. 01:05:46.26 Jeri This was very early on in mine and Casey's friendship, and it was like, I'm scared of her a little bit because of some of those nightmares she gave this character, and i'm like, oh, okay. 01:05:56.78 KC Yeah. 01:05:56.81 Jeri um 01:05:57.27 KC but 01:05:57.54 Jeri I'm scared now. 01:05:57.81 KC But it is a fun, like, yeah, like, ah instead of a sending spell, you can just say, like, i'm going to go into their dreams tonight. And then you can have, like, because I think it it lasts eight hours. 01:06:06.76 Jeri Yeah, it lasts until they wake up. 01:06:07.17 KC So you can technically... 01:06:07.23 Kurt Crenwelge It does say duration eight hours, yeah. 01:06:09.11 Jeri So you if you stay in it all night. 01:06:09.30 KC Yeah, you can have so conversations with people and you can shape the dream in any way you want. So you want to like form a battle plan with this person, you can like, you know, create the place that you're going to be going. It's like, I feel like the like the uses for it are so much broader than I think people are giving it credit for. 01:06:26.11 KC So just as for the dream spell. 01:06:28.54 Jeri I love the dream spell. 01:06:28.56 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah, again, totally, Benjamin... Dane, if you guys are listening, you should have Casey on for an episode of Dispel Magic. um So then that way you can talk about this spell. 01:06:39.27 Kurt Crenwelge That's that's awesome. 01:06:39.74 Jeri You have to read your notes from Leza. You have to read your the dreams that you made this woman have. 01:06:43.71 KC Oh, i I have it somewhere. i can i can talk about all the nightmares I gave. 01:06:45.37 Jeri They are so scary. They're so scary. That's where ah my papa has rickets came from, was from a dream spell. 01:06:51.82 KC Yeah, it was also dream spell of psychologically torturing a person by just, like, not letting them sleep, experiencing things that they hate, like snooty men at parties saying my papa has rickets over and over again. 01:07:05.01 Kurt Crenwelge Okay. but well Well, just because I know it came up recently in my campaign that I'm running, but apparently there's a common item that you can get, and it was introduced in Xanathar's Guide to Everything, um but Potion of Watchful Rest, which allows you to take a long rest, but you can still be fully awake and gain the benefits of the long rest. So I wonder... 01:07:27.33 Kurt Crenwelge If drinking one of those potions um would circumvent ah the stacking of of multiple dreams, but you'd have to you'd have to have a constant supply of these potions on hand in order to to fight off the dreams, I guess. 01:07:40.68 Jeri No, don't give her ideas. 01:07:40.68 KC yeah I've never heard of it. 01:07:41.59 Jeri i have to have to be able to use this dream to torment every NPC in this game. 01:07:46.12 Kurt Crenwelge Well, they have to be able to get their hands on this potion, though. That's the that's the thing. It's not like you could just walk into your local ah but adventuring goods store and just find it. 01:07:50.45 KC Yeah. 01:07:56.61 Kurt Crenwelge Well, I guess if it's common enough, maybe you can, but they may only have very limited supplies. 01:08:01.51 KC Yeah, common. I've never even heard of it, so how common can it be? 01:08:06.61 Kurt Crenwelge Exactly. Exactly. Okay. 01:08:08.15 KC might be next. 01:08:08.41 Kurt Crenwelge All right. So, so we've got our, we've got our two quests. So obviously wildly, um, different quests. Um, but would you be able to tell us, um, you know, uh, 01:08:19.62 Kurt Crenwelge based on, you know, the particular quest that we're going with the character, uh, what is going to be the reward for success? So I know with, uh, Asha, we're going to charging into the eye of a storm, and trying to survive whatever lies in wait in the unknown. 01:08:31.04 Jeri Oh no, we lost Kurt. 01:08:33.63 KC Oh no. 01:08:34.46 Kurt Crenwelge and then, meanwhile with, uh, uh, with princess Minera, we're supposed to do a dungeon crawl and go find some magic dream water, ah that we can go and retrieve for her. 01:08:34.59 Jeri We lost him. 01:08:45.53 Kurt Crenwelge so What's going to be the reward for successfully completing these side quests? 01:08:52.06 Jeri I just like to let you know you cut out for like a solid minute. when you were talking. 01:08:55.52 KC It was not that long. It was like 15 seconds. 01:08:56.93 Jeri It was forever, 100 years. I don't have a good perception of time, so you might need to redo your, ah you might need to edit here. 01:09:06.14 Kurt Crenwelge Okay, do you want me to ask the question again? 01:09:08.27 Jeri Yeah, go for it. 01:09:09.21 KC Yes. Yeah. 01:09:09.93 Kurt Crenwelge All right, post-production, Kurt will go through and cut this, and transcription folks, yeah, there' here's a flub-up we had to fix. Anyway. 01:09:17.48 Jeri so there 01:09:19.68 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, no, I'm still here. 01:09:21.42 Jeri Oh, there you go You froze for a second, again. 01:09:21.68 KC Okay. Okay. 01:09:24.66 Kurt Crenwelge Okay, well, then maybe I'll just trust it, because I was yeah i saw like you know your video, Skip, um but this thing's pretty good about capturing all the audio and stuff like that, so 01:09:32.23 Jeri Okay. 01:09:34.47 Jeri Well, we're talking over you, so I guess you'll have to... Editing magic. i don't know that works. 01:09:39.44 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah, no, that's that's fine. 01:09:40.27 KC um like 01:09:41.93 Kurt Crenwelge Just for just for our brevity sake. Sure, I'll just go ahead and ask again. OK, so we've got our two different side quests. You know, they're you know, maybe you'd have to figure out how the Venn diagram of them overlap. But, um you know, we're going to charge into the eye of a storm or we're going to go do a dungeon crawl and find some magic dream water to give back. 01:10:00.21 Kurt Crenwelge What's going to be the reward for success in each of these side quests? 01:10:05.39 KC Well, I think with Asha... I mean, if you were planning on running something like this in your own campaign, you could kind of create it into whatever you wanted. Like, if there was something important in your own game that you needed the party to find, you could say that that important thing was in the eye of the storm. 01:10:22.64 KC um Particularly in our campaign, it was the secret underground city of mind flayers that were part of this ancient ritual to bring back the god of memories and the moon. 01:10:38.85 KC So it was this secret society that was but being protected by this magic in the bottom of the ocean. So it's very much like a ah quest that could be a anything you want to insert here kind of thing. But maybe it's also like progressing the story in an interesting way or introducing you to a new character or you know need to kill often in yeah off one of your characters with a death tyrant. 01:11:04.97 KC You can put that bad boy in there. We actually played a very fun, interesting, I'll give away this tidbit of fun for any DM um that is looking for something interesting to add to their game. 01:11:15.97 KC But we played a very um not session of D&D session of D&D when we went into the eye of the storm because um they, like, we ended the session with the ship breaking apart, going into this whirlpool. 01:11:31.96 KC And the session ended with, like, every character having a final memory, like basically your life flashing before your eyes before you die. And that was the end of the session. And then we came back to the next session and all of the characters were trapped inside of a utopian version of their own life in their own mind. 01:11:54.05 KC And they had to one by one break into each other's utopian and like pull them out, basically tell them the world is still out there. And this version of the world is not real and we need to rescue you out of it. 01:12:07.24 Kurt Crenwelge Thank you. 01:12:07.27 KC And it was kind of a like group bonding, like a party bonding experience. 01:12:10.29 Jeri It was this... It was so... Some of that was so sad. It was... i don't know. It was... i don't know. It was the most, like... I don't know. Heartfelt things that we've ever done in D&D, I think, was, like, that specific session. 01:12:25.26 Jeri Because, like, one of the car one of the guys, his backstory was, like, his wife had died prior, and he'd been, like, without her for 20 years, and in the dream, he's, like, with his wife again, living, like, in retirement in their little house, and we basically had to tell him, like, hey... 01:12:39.34 Jeri she's not real. This isn't real. We need to find out what really happened to your wife, so you have to wake up. You have to get out of here. And so he had to leave behind his wife again. And that character does not really like to roleplay that much, but he was like that. He said that was his favorite session that we've ever played, right? 01:12:56.52 KC Yeah. 01:12:56.55 Jeri It's like all roleplay. And it was fantastic. 01:12:59.89 KC yeah I'm a really big fan of, like, playing sessions of D&D that, like, don't exist within the rules of D&D. 01:13:05.63 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. 01:13:05.89 KC And so, like, that's very much like a... There was hardly any any actual dice rolling in that. um It was a lot more of, like, looking at your surroundings and trying to understand what was wrong with them and your friends trying to convince you to come out. Like, we didn't even really, like, roll a lot of persuasion checks and stuff. It was just, like, does your character feel convinced? 01:13:24.47 KC Like, would they want to leave are they going to have to be drug out of here by force, like kicking and screaming? So it was a very cool experience. And then when they like awoke from that is when they were down in the mind flayer dungeon. 01:13:35.91 KC um That's also just a fun, if your characters have like a TPK and you want to make it all a weird subliminal world in between the worlds or something, it was a very fun experience and the players really enjoyed it. It was one of those, like, I have no idea if they're going to like this session or not. 01:13:51.48 KC And then they said it was really great. So it worked out. 01:13:53.92 Jeri It was fantastic. I loved it. 01:13:58.02 Kurt Crenwelge And then once we get all the magic dream water and we huff it back up out of the dungeon, what's going to be the reward there? 01:14:06.14 Jeri It would be so much gold and jewels. It'd be unbelievable because it's not real. I don't remember what the spell is called because I rename all my spells, but there's something where you can create like an illusion that see that feels real for a certain amount of time. it like feels... 01:14:24.47 Jeri and looks and smells and everything real, but it's not. I don't remember what that spell is called that I have. 01:14:30.46 KC You have the spell? 01:14:31.58 Jeri I don't i't didn't actually take it, but I thought about it. 01:14:33.56 KC Oh, okay. 01:14:33.97 Jeri um Yeah, I don't remember what it was, but I'd have to look it up. 01:14:34.25 KC I was like, I've never heard of the spell. 01:14:41.17 Jeri I should have thought about that before this. but um So you would go you would leave with all these jewels and everything like that, and then like the next day you'd wake up and they just not exist. Or my personal favorite, I love mimics. 01:14:54.71 Jeri The chest might be a mimic. You never know. 01:14:59.90 Jeri I just like to... 01:15:00.81 KC You would become a recurring villain in this. 01:15:02.59 Jeri I would become a villain. this My character as an NPC is a villain, for sure. 01:15:07.42 Kurt Crenwelge Mmm. Okay. 01:15:09.06 Jeri Without the party that she's with right now, she's a villain. Because she's only a good person because she wants her boyfriend to think she's a good person. Otherwise, she'd be evil. 01:15:22.36 Kurt Crenwelge Okay. All right. so so one a genuine ah So one reward is a genuine like, hey, we've unlocked this new place to explore. We found this MacGuffin or we've you know just something new for us to discover here in the eye of the storm. 01:15:35.80 Kurt Crenwelge Whereas the other one is like um you know like the curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal sort of reward. 01:15:41.38 Jeri Yes. 01:15:41.82 Kurt Crenwelge sort of a reward 01:15:41.99 KC very much of Faw. 01:15:43.71 Jeri Yeah. Like how would this beautiful princess betray us like this? And then you come back and the whole castle's not even you it there anymore. None of it was real. 01:15:51.35 KC Yeah. And now you've given this powerful villain more ammunition for her, like, dream spells. So you've turned her into a worse villain. This is honestly a good... Add this to your campaigns. This is a good little... A good thing here. I like this. 01:16:05.97 KC Trick the party into thinking you're a good guy and then you're not. Those are my favorite kind NPCs. All secret villains. 01:16:12.92 Kurt Crenwelge Yeah, it was kind of like um ah the ah the the secret, well, I don't know if he was a secret villain, but Ernesto de la Cruz. You start off, you know, because you're with Miguel, thinking like, oh, this guy really is my, he's really my great-grandfather. And, you know, I look up to him as a hero. Then suddenly you learn the truth of like, oh, he's actually the villain. 01:16:33.57 KC Yeah. It was him all along. Yeah. 01:16:35.46 Kurt Crenwelge It was him all along. Yeah. Okay. All right. So we've got, okay. So, uh, well, uh, okay. So the, I'm just thinking for a, for Jerry's character, it's like, okay, so you got a tangible reward. It was like something to Scott. It was a mimic disguised as something. 01:16:52.17 Kurt Crenwelge And then later the mimic will attack the party. Or it's like, we illusioned, a bunch of rocks to be like this huge thing of gold. And then the next day they look at it and it's, it's gone. so So it's a trick is the reward. 01:17:04.70 Kurt Crenwelge But now we have to consider the opposite. 01:17:05.29 KC Thank you. 01:17:07.24 Kurt Crenwelge ah What's going to be the consequence of failure or refusing the call to the adventure? So, you know, it sounds like with Asha, she wants to go regardless, you know, of anyone else is going to go with her. 01:17:19.53 Kurt Crenwelge So she she goes to the eye of the storm and she disappears like no one hears from her again and you have to go find her or like that NPC is just, you know, no longer available, cannot call this rideshare because she's she's missing. 01:17:35.23 KC Yeah, I definitely, especially if like she's a character of that already existed in the game. I think, honestly, she kind of did say that in the conversation with the party about like going to this place. It was like, well, I'm going to go. 01:17:48.43 KC Like you guys should come with me. If not, um I'm going to go. Like I'm willing to take the risk. So, um but also, yeah, I guess refusing to go would be you might lose the opportunity to get to go there in the future with someone who's, you know, skilled enough to get you there. 01:18:04.10 KC But if you do go and you don't succeed in your trip, you might end up, you know, enslaved to the mind flayers, part of a cult to, you know, bring back some ancient forgotten power. 01:18:16.94 KC Or maybe you're trapped forever in this illusory, you know, dream sequence of a perfect world and you'll have to be rescued by someone else in the future. 01:18:26.26 Kurt Crenwelge o 01:18:26.42 KC can be kind of one of those like like a. Critical role, Keyleth losing her mom. And we're like, oh, she's been dead this whole time. Oh, no. And like four years later in a different campaign, we find out she's been there the whole time and just no one knew. 01:18:37.90 Kurt Crenwelge oh 01:18:38.66 KC Like maybe you know you come back in years later in the campaign. You're like, wait, she's been here this whole time. She's been trapped here. Or that other NPC has been, you know, your old PC has been there or, you know, they're 01:18:50.05 Kurt Crenwelge Or it's like, uh, or it's like fallout three in the vault where they're all trapped in the, uh, they're all trapped in the, like a perfect 1950s town and Dr. Ver, uh, Victor, uh, 01:19:02.04 Kurt Crenwelge the the evil doctor, Dr. Braun, is, like, keeping them all, all the residents of the vault trapped in the simulation, ah where he gets to play being a little girl serial killer ah with with everyone, and yeah, that's the same thing where you have to, like, you have to convince them to be let free, or you have to run the the communist invasion program. And then that when the Chinese soldiers go in and kill everyone, that boots everyone out of the game. But of course, everyone who's been in there for hundreds of years now suddenly is ah is no more. 01:19:33.32 Kurt Crenwelge So yeah, interesting questions. ah Okay. And then for the for the for our villain, it seems, if you if you fail her or you refuse to do her bidding, what's going to be what's going to be the outcome of that? 01:19:42.02 Jeri I'm a villain now. 01:19:50.98 Jeri She has the ability to be in your dreams every night. And if you annoy her enough, she will make it her mission to be in your dreams every night for the rest of her life. 01:20:04.16 Jeri And she has done it to someone before. She has sort already has one person on her list that she calls every night in the middle of the night to be like, what are you doing? You're going to have a nightmare now. i hate you. 01:20:14.80 Jeri So depending on if they fail her and annoy her enough, possibly they could just be tormented for the rest of time by this villain or just like slandered in the town if they're in a if she's like the princess of you know wherever they are she could put out a hit on them put some wanted posters up get the guards to to take them down if she's convinced the rest of the town that she's actually the princess like better do what she says or she has a lot of mind control abilities you might do it even if you don't want to like you know what go do your stuff she's evil 01:20:54.33 Kurt Crenwelge Oh, she has like the gayest spell. 01:20:54.75 Jeri Not yet, she's not high enough level for that currently, but she has um massive Mass Suggestion, which I have renamed to The Royal Orders. 01:21:01.44 KC She's like mastogen. 01:21:06.22 Jeri um Dominate monster, dominate person, all those kind of spells. So there's possibility that you might do it anyway. 01:21:14.90 Kurt Crenwelge Ooh. 01:21:15.27 Jeri Depending on how evil you want her to be. 01:21:17.79 Kurt Crenwelge Okay. So it sounds like we've got ah we've got each of our characters covered. Are there any other optional character questions you wish to explore? Are you ready to head into the next part? 01:21:33.52 KC guess that's all the main gist. 01:21:33.80 Jeri i We've talked about them a lot. We've played these characters for two years. 01:21:39.58 KC Yeah. 01:21:40.48 Jeri We have a lot of 01:21:40.88 KC I have infinite information about them. 01:21:44.72 Kurt Crenwelge Okay. All right. Well, then it sounds like, you know, we we've got enough to work with for our version of these characters that are being brought here to the podcast. So I think it's time we throw them into ah random encounter. 01:22:05.33 Kurt Crenwelge And the final ad read here for Zencaster. So thank you, Zencaster, the platform that lets me do all the recordings, yada, yada. If you want to start your own podcast, just go to Zencaster.com forward slash pricing. And back to the episode. All right. And so now we're here at the part of the show where we get to do a role play, a scene, a vignette with our characters. But since they're both wildly ah different characters, I don't know. i'm I'm trying to think of creatively how we might do this. And since both of these characters are mentioned in Speedy RPG, if we which I have not... 01:22:53.37 Kurt Crenwelge unfortunately had the chance to demo it. And I know at DreamHack, you know, people were coming up and you, you know, ah Jerry's husband was running games of ah speedy RPG for a good number of people who are coming through and they seem to very much enjoy it. But if we, if we were going to take this like a speedy RPG sort of a situation and we draw the cards and both of these characters come up, how, how are we going to use them in a scene where, 01:23:16.78 Kurt Crenwelge together do you think unless we have to do like scene a and then scene b as to as to get an understanding or hear a life a voice a personality of each character 01:23:27.93 KC I mean, that's kind of the beauty of Speedy RPG is that all the characters exist and you never know who you're going to get or what scenario you're going to get. So both of these characters could absolutely come up in the same scenario. 01:23:40.87 Jeri We actually played these two characters while we were playing speed RPG at DreamHack. I pulled the Asha card and she pulled the Minera card while we were playing with someone. And I was like, you want a switch? and we're like, yeah. And so we switched so we could play our own characters. But it is possible. 01:23:55.84 Jeri And in our campaign, they are are friends. Minera really likes Asha. Minera doesn't let people know she's evil. She keeps that shoved way down deep. It's on the surface. 01:24:06.28 Kurt Crenwelge Okay, all right. 01:24:06.75 Jeri It's great. It's great. 01:24:08.55 Kurt Crenwelge Well, since, you know, this might be a first as far as, ah you know, because typically in this part, like, oh, I would introduce one of the podcast characters, or I'd come up with, like, ah some other character to, you know, be able to present some sort of dramatic scene that would, like, it wouldn't be, you know, it would it wouldn't just sit there like a blob. Like, it would have, you know, it would be interesting to listen to. 01:24:28.95 Kurt Crenwelge And so since, you know, you were talking about, oh, we were just playing these characters in a... I don't know, maybe ah if I stepped back or something like that and I just let the two characters exist, maybe like a slice of life, um you know, from their adventuring days, like with ah Princess Mynira and Asha kind of hanging out together. Maybe there's a way to sort of kind of put these two side quests together or like just offhand mention of like, 01:24:54.32 Kurt Crenwelge oh yeah you know there's that really interesting well that has all the dream water and it's like oh but meanwhile we've agreed to help Asha to go off on this adventure or something like that so i don't know do you think maybe something like that's plausible I just get to be like we're gonna I'm the director I set the scene and then I just step back and let my actors act 01:25:12.71 Jeri Do you have Speedy RPG like near you? I can go grab it. And we can literally just play Speedy RPG. 01:25:16.35 KC Me? 01:25:17.71 Jeri it like 01:25:17.70 KC I mean, I do. 01:25:18.76 Jeri You have literally ah ah box of hundreds of games. 01:25:22.54 KC i do. 01:25:22.64 Jeri Ten feet from you. 01:25:24.01 KC i do. You're not wrong. They're right here. 01:25:27.82 Jeri Yeah. 01:25:28.12 KC I have them just, you know, on the floor in my own way. 01:25:28.59 Kurt Crenwelge wow 01:25:31.67 KC As I should. Oh, my battery's running. 01:25:32.92 Jeri You should just pull a random pull a random scenario. 01:25:36.05 KC Oh, do we want a random scenario or do we want the scenario you like the most? 01:25:36.43 Jeri and 01:25:39.62 Jeri ah Obviously, I want that one. But... 01:25:41.85 KC Yeah. That's the funnest one. 01:25:46.87 KC So if... 01:25:47.51 Jeri We could do a random one though. 01:25:47.64 KC Oh. and down The ocean princess. Huzzah. 01:25:51.36 Jeri It's me. 01:25:53.08 KC It's you. 01:25:53.12 Kurt Crenwelge you 01:25:54.27 KC But we can do a random one or we can do turtle races. 01:25:57.87 Jeri I love turtle races. It's my favorite. 01:25:59.00 KC Everyone loves turtle races. It's the best. 01:26:00.80 Jeri it's in the It's in the silly expansion of speed RPG now, but you can do a random one or you can lie to us and tell us we're doing a random one. 01:26:04.15 KC Yeah. 01:26:07.78 KC Or we can do... Or we can do pirates. 01:26:10.90 Jeri Or do ashes. 01:26:12.47 KC Or we can do something treasure. Another pirate one. 01:26:15.44 Jeri Stuck in Treasury is one of my favorites. That's the other one I run a lot. 01:26:18.38 KC We can do something treasure. 01:26:19.59 Jeri Okay. 01:26:21.03 KC Am I running this and also playing a character? 01:26:23.33 Jeri Yes. 01:26:23.82 KC love it. 01:26:24.97 Kurt Crenwelge Okay, yeah, so I guess for the first time, I'm going to be quiet. I'm just going to let the random encounter happen before us. 01:26:34.40 KC So, uh, this is now just a speedy RPG advertisement. So, should play speedy RPG. This a fun game. We're going to play it right now. Ding. 01:26:42.15 Kurt Crenwelge Ta-ding! 01:26:43.33 KC Ding. Ding. um So, sunken treasure is you've been hired to retrieve treasure from a sunken cargo ship. But when you arrive at the coordinates, there's another crew lifting the chest up out of the water because they beat you there. 01:26:56.73 KC So, obviously, in this scenario, Asha is cruising on her ship, which has been... um we haven't renamed this ship yet because she's had the the second chance and then the third chance, and both of those have been destroyed. 01:27:09.50 KC So, is this now the fourth chance? 01:27:09.75 Jeri Yes. 01:27:10.73 KC Yeah. 01:27:11.39 Jeri Yes. No, this is ah Al's demise. 01:27:15.42 KC Oh, Al's Demise, that we were naming it since we killed a man named Al to get this ship. 01:27:17.45 Jeri Yeah. To take his ship. 01:27:21.29 KC So, obviously, Asha piloting this ship with her brain because it's a spelljammer ship. ah And for some reason, this ah party of two, it's just the two of us. We've gone off on our, ah as we've joked about, forming our own redhead pirate gang, where it's all redheads, since we're both redheads. 01:27:37.52 KC um And we're out on the ocean trying to find sunken treasure that I've heard about. 01:27:39.53 Kurt Crenwelge you 01:27:42.96 KC Is this Long John Silver's treasure? It could be. We know a lot about Long John Silver's special coins that are at the bottom of the ocean. 01:27:46.25 Jeri and step 01:27:50.96 KC A different one shot that I will run at QuakeCon. And so as we arrive there, someone else is already there. What are we going to do? 01:28:02.35 KC My Nira. um we were supposed to be here first. so Do we kill them all? but What are we supposed to do? 01:28:09.72 Jeri How many people are there? How many other pirates are there? 01:28:13.18 KC um More than us. 01:28:13.55 Kurt Crenwelge Thank 01:28:14.13 KC Because they have an actual pirate crew. 01:28:14.65 Jeri More than us. 01:28:16.47 KC There's like six or seven of those bad boys. 01:28:21.05 Jeri I'm going to try standing on the bow of the ship looking majestic, and I'm going to try to cast Mass Suggestion. I'm going to convince all of them that they don't... I'm just going sit there just looking dramatic and be like, hello, boys. 01:28:36.99 Jeri You don't want that. That's not good. The good stuff is in here, back here in this ship. And I'm going suggest that they leave what they're doing and come on our ship. 01:28:45.90 KC Wait, wait, wait. You're gonna tell them that my ship is better than their ship? We don't want them on my ship. 01:28:51.20 Jeri I just need to get them closer to me. 01:28:55.00 KC Okay, I guess I believe you. 01:28:57.82 Jeri you are You were with us. 01:28:57.98 KC Oh, do um we... 01:28:59.41 Jeri You were with us in the Astral Sea. 01:28:59.94 KC we rolling in this? 01:29:01.20 Jeri I don't know. I do have a die. 01:29:03.31 KC Or does it work? Roll your die. 01:29:05.05 Jeri It just works. I rolled my die. It it works. It was an 8. 01:29:08.75 KC Okay, I believe you. 01:29:08.83 Jeri It doesn't work. Yeah. 01:29:11.67 KC Oh, it does or it doesn't? Did you roll low? 01:29:12.95 Jeri It doesn't. 01:29:13.47 KC Oh. 01:29:13.69 Jeri I mean, I rolled an 8. Technically, they would roll for playing D&D and not speedy RPG. 01:29:15.53 KC Oh. 01:29:17.90 Jeri But I rolled an 8. 01:29:18.02 KC No, we're playing speedy RPG. 01:29:18.70 Jeri I rolled an 8. ah roll in eight I'm using my... 01:29:21.77 KC Ah, good. Plus heart? That's only a plus two. 01:29:24.95 Jeri Yeah, no. 01:29:25.68 KC So so right here on the card. 01:29:25.73 Jeri Not great. 01:29:26.97 Kurt Crenwelge Thank you. 01:29:28.55 KC So you tell them, hey boys, come on over here. And they just look at you like, who are these two redheads on the ocean? You're not that important. And they continue to ah chain up this ship. 01:29:39.38 KC So, uh, Asha's gonna step forward and say, are we doing this the nice way? This is important, right? 01:29:44.43 Jeri they did They didn't listen to my nice suggestions, so... They can... can get rid of them. 01:29:51.51 KC Okay. Asha is also going to stand up on the top of the ship next to you. And she is going to stand on one foot like a flamingo and bend her knee so that her knee becomes a cannon. And she's going to launch a cannon out at their ship. And she's going to try put a hole in the front of their ship to cause chaos. 01:30:11.62 KC I don't have a diet on me. 01:30:13.72 Jeri You don't keep a die on your desk to play with while you work all day? 01:30:14.12 KC I didn't. Well, I was 01:30:17.84 Jeri That's not your desk. 01:30:19.34 KC That's not my desk, and I i was also sewing earlier. So, dun-da-da-da! 01:30:23.47 Kurt Crenwelge Thank you. 01:30:24.51 KC A die. Hey, I rolled a 17. Because I'm good at dealing. 01:30:27.13 Jeri I mean, that's kind of how it works. You always roll better than me. 01:30:30.08 KC I do. 01:30:30.24 Jeri I roll very badly. 01:30:30.78 KC So, a cannon ball fires out of Asha's knee and crashes into the front of their ship, um causes a big ol' hole to go in it, and you hear all the pirates in their begin going, ah! 01:30:43.25 KC and running around and trying to figure out where they're supposed to go as water is now ah beginning to go on to that part of the ship. And now they're a little bit distracted on pulling up the chain. There's like still one guy on the chain, but they had like three previously. So now the one guy is just kind of holding it because he can't pull it up all by himself because he's weakling. 01:31:01.90 KC And now their ship is beginning to sink and they're all pulling out crossbows and their own cannons. 01:31:07.91 Jeri While they're kind of distracted, my Nero will be like, keep distracting them. And she will just gracefully dive into the water and start swimming because she's the ocean princess. She can breathe underwater. 01:31:19.11 Jeri and so And she has a fantastic swim speed. 01:31:20.85 Kurt Crenwelge Thank you. 01:31:22.45 Jeri Doesn't even have to try. So she's just going and go under the water and try to steal the treasure before they get it to come up. I will roll a dice for this. I don't know what I'm rolling for. 01:31:33.26 Jeri What stat am I rolling 01:31:33.46 KC I feel like that feels like a plus body. You're physically trying to get... 01:31:37.41 Jeri sort but what's her bot What's her body? 01:31:39.19 KC It's a plus one. 01:31:41.26 Jeri Can I use my attack tentacle, which is a plus one? 01:31:44.34 KC That's also true. There is an attack tentacle in this deck as well. 01:31:47.47 Jeri I'm gonna use that to help me swim better. 01:31:49.09 KC Great. 01:31:50.41 Jeri 13, so was that? 01:31:51.63 KC You swim better. Okay. 01:31:54.27 Jeri What did you say? 15? 01:31:54.91 KC Yeah, so Asha's gonna continue to stay on board, just like... 01:31:55.22 Jeri so fifteen 01:31:59.36 KC Cannon. Cannon. She cranks up her little... ah artifice or gauntlet and she hits some Eldritch blasts out of it um and just putting more holes in the ship and just creating chaos while everyone is shooting across the bolts back at her. 01:32:12.69 Jeri across the board. 01:32:12.83 KC um And while you're down there, you begin, like, unhooking the chain from the treasure chest so that it can slip out and that you can grab it so you manage to, like, get it free. 01:32:23.99 KC And now the guy up above who's holding the chain, who was like holding it steady to keep the treasure from falling, like, like falls back as he realizes like, oh there's nothing at the bottom. 01:32:28.73 Kurt Crenwelge you 01:32:32.01 KC And he yells out like, they're stealing the treasure. Get him. And now they're like putting down planks and they're like starting to board Oscar's ship. So she going to like, with the power of her mind, like take the ship up because it might look like a regular pirate ship, but it moves in three dimensions. 01:32:51.06 KC So she just goes straight up into the air. so that plank gets blown off and they can't get to her. um But she's also left you in the ocean, so how are you going get back to her? 01:33:00.64 Jeri That's okay, I'll just dimension door and I'm gonna teleport up there with the treasure. 01:33:03.78 KC Oh, true. Yeah. yeah Yeah, feel like you don't really have to roll for it. Actually, yeah, roll for it. 01:33:08.57 Jeri I know. 01:33:10.47 KC It's more fun to roll for it. 01:33:12.45 Jeri I rolled a 15. 01:33:13.95 KC Great. With the power of your mind, you Dimension Door back onto the the deck of the ship um with the chest. 01:33:15.19 Jeri I'm rolling so good right now with the power of my mind, with the power of princesses. 01:33:21.90 KC um and you guys give a crisp high five to one another um as all the ship the ship down below is sinking. 01:33:26.31 Jeri Chris, 25. 01:33:30.09 Jeri And then we just fly away into the sunset. 01:33:30.41 KC And you guys go off into the sunset with your newfound treasure. But you ah open it up, and inside is I pull a random item card from this deck. 01:33:41.50 KC I say that. Are there any item cards from this deck? They're a different pile. Dun-da-da-da. I want there to be a cool item. It was Falco. 01:33:52.15 KC homunculus. 01:33:53.06 Jeri I immediately Eldritch blast it, kill it. 01:33:53.79 KC so 01:33:56.17 Jeri I hate Falco. 01:33:58.22 KC You open it up and say, oh, that's actually a bad treasure. 01:34:00.49 Jeri Yeah, like, oh, that's where it's been. and Oliver's been looking for that. And scene. 01:34:05.79 KC And you pull into the sunset. And that's how speedy RPG works. 01:34:12.04 Kurt Crenwelge Perfect. Yeah, as Jerry said, and scene, and ah a fantastic ah demo, and that's that's really how easy it is to to run a speedy RPG. 01:34:21.52 Jeri There's very few rules to this game. 01:34:21.78 KC Yeah. 01:34:23.79 Jeri There's no spells or really, like, weapons or anything. It's just, like, if you can convince but whoever's the game master that it's a logical thing for you to be able to do, then you can do it. 01:34:35.87 KC You can try. 01:34:36.83 Jeri You can try. So if I'm, like, well, you know, my character on the card, think the card does say she's a warlock, right? 01:34:38.10 KC and you can roll for it. 01:34:43.77 KC Mm-hmm. 01:34:43.92 Jeri For, yeah. So it's, like, I you know i have Eldritch Blast. 01:34:45.18 KC Yeah. 01:34:46.61 Jeri I have, you know, spells that I could do. So as long as it's, like, a reasonable thing. I had someone once be like, can I try to cast a spell that's like Wish? I'm like, you can roll for it, but you're going to have to roll really high for me to give you anything even close to a Wish spell. 01:35:03.14 Jeri And they rolled like a three, and I'm like, you try real hard, and you just poop yourself just a little bit trying so hard with that magic, but... 01:35:03.21 KC It worked. 01:35:10.55 KC and the workout 01:35:13.36 Kurt Crenwelge Perfect. Yeah. So so what was it? Well, I mean, as you said, you've been playing these characters for years, but what was it like getting to to kind of revisit them in this ah this little ah demo, this little scene ah that you shared with us today? 01:35:28.07 Jeri It's been nice. We haven't actually played them and forever because Casey's been gone. 01:35:28.43 KC it was 01:35:33.46 Jeri And before that, we did a little mini arc of we're not actually playing those characters right now. We're playing our previous campaign characters at level 20-ish. 01:35:38.27 KC Yeah. 01:35:42.23 Jeri So it's been nice. 01:35:43.12 KC Yeah. 01:35:43.97 Jeri I need to... i've It's made me realize how evil she really is. It's been a while since I've thought about that. And so I need to reevaluate my life choices on how evil she is. 01:35:53.58 Kurt Crenwelge Mm-hmm. 01:35:54.92 KC yeah I feel like as any DM probably does, they feel like in every campaign they create like a self-insert character. where they feel like who's the character that yeah is the most like me. 01:36:06.18 KC And ironically, in this campaign, it was not like Asha in my mind. It was a different character that I had made that I was like, obviously, this is my self-insert character um whose name is Eve. And then as we started to play, everyone was like, that's not, your no, you're wrong. It's Asha. 01:36:21.19 KC Like you, you're so much like Asha. And I'm like, dang it. I did it. Because last campaign, I did the same thing where I was like, obviously, my self-insert character is Risa. And everyone went, no, it's not. It's Nick Bryant. 01:36:30.48 Jeri Yeah, Dick Bryan, the normal human man. 01:36:31.30 KC And I was like, dang it, you're right. the normal lame guy. that's That was closer to myself. and so I don't get to be the cool hot wife. I get to be the normal dude. so This one I feel like Asha really turned into like I have a lot of connection with Asha, which is part of why I ended cosplaying her, um putting her in the game and everything. 01:36:39.48 Jeri Yeah. 01:36:47.98 KC I feel like she is just a very fun character. She had a lot of, with all stories, like ah she had a character arc in my mind when the campaign started, which was that she was going to slowly turn herself into an automaton. 01:37:03.20 KC she was going to like continue to replace parts of herself with metal until she was mostly automaton by the end because she felt that she was more an automaton than she was a human because she was raised that way. 01:37:15.29 KC um And it was because of party. 01:37:16.22 Kurt Crenwelge She was going to go full General Grievous. 01:37:18.85 KC Yeah. But because of like party. 01:37:19.65 Jeri Another reference that Casey doesn't get because she hasn't seen Star Wars. 01:37:23.15 KC I think I know who that is 01:37:26.22 KC I have a picture in my mind. 01:37:26.26 Kurt Crenwelge I'm sure she's seen the meme, General Kenobi. 01:37:28.12 Jeri Yeah. Yeah. 01:37:29.91 KC Yes. Oh, yes. Yes, exactly. That's who I'm thinking of. then I was right with the picture in my mind. 01:37:33.83 Kurt Crenwelge yeah he's like he's like the robot guy he pulls out the four arms with the lightsabers. That's General Grievous. He's basically like a... Yeah, he's basically like a cyborg. He only has like, what I think, like a brain and a heart are like the only things of him that are real. 01:37:48.65 Kurt Crenwelge And then the rest of them is all robot body. 01:37:51.03 KC Yeah. Yeah. But then when she, like, when the party... um when she met them in the first place and kind of had like a little bit of interaction, it was oh, it's like interesting people, but then they kept coming back to her and kept like involving her in the story. 01:38:02.53 KC And she like kind of learned what it meant to be human and what it meant to be like a real person. And she decided like that she wanted to keep that human part of her that was just as important to her as her automaton half that she had from her childhood. So it was very cool to like, 01:38:23.66 KC as a DM when you get thwarted but your own by your own plans because the party makes a difference, that's like the best part of the D&D is like the collaboration of like, oh, no, this story was fully formed by multiple people and not by just me because it would have been different if had just been me. 01:38:38.63 Jeri Yeah, that's the same with Mynera. Like, doing this right now without putting in the influences of the party that she's with currently, like, she would have been a villain for sure. But, like, because of the party, she's not. 01:38:51.97 Jeri Because she's like, oh, I should not be a bad person. Like, there are people in the world that I do care about, but if she didn't have those people, she would be a bad person. 01:38:56.37 Kurt Crenwelge a 01:39:01.03 Jeri And sometimes it sneaks out a little bit, but for the most part, she tries to keep it under control. 01:39:08.20 Kurt Crenwelge yeah Wonderful. um Yeah, no, it was amazing to get to to get to spend our time ah with with these characters today. And, you know, I know you've got a lot of things ah to say and do in plugs. So I think here at the end of the show, I should turn the microphone, the soapbox, the stage and the platform over to the both of y'all. So, you know. 01:39:28.17 Kurt Crenwelge certainly any other concluding thoughts you know we'd love to hear them but certainly we want you to be able to plug all your stuff so like where can we find you online you know where can we you know see cosplays where can we learn about other events that five-sided fates are participating in uh where can we get our copies of speedy rpg and uh and all that good stuff and any passions or causes we need to be made aware of feel free to let us know 01:39:53.14 KC Yeah, so we are Five Sided Fates on the interweb. So Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, our website is Five Sided Fates or FateCon.com. That is our convention that we run. FateCon is happening in September of this year, the 27th and the 28th in Arlington, Texas. 01:40:10.69 KC So tickets are on sale right now um and your tickets get you to play D&D games at FateCon because we will have tons of DMs running tons of different D&D games at different levels, including DMs like Kurt and other DMs. 01:40:17.82 Kurt Crenwelge you 01:40:25.83 KC If you come to any of our previous ah conventions and events that we run, we'll have yeah lots of recurring faces and probably um even us. I will probably be running at least a game at FateCon. 01:40:36.57 KC I haven't decided exactly what yet, but I want to run some like quick fights. like one hour or two hour like quick fights for people and just do like the Waffle House one shot or the Long John Silver. 01:40:47.02 KC have a lot of like weird unhinged one shots that I think people will enjoy. 01:40:49.69 Jeri They're all restaurant-based for some reason. 01:40:51.59 KC All restaurant based for no reason other than just how it worked out, I guess. um But FateCon will also include live action sword fighting and different Ren Faire-esque crafts and things that you can build to get yourself immersed in the idea of being, you know, your own D&D character. 01:41:07.50 KC We'll have cosplay competition, vendors that are D&D specific, um beginner games, if you've never played D&D but you're interested in getting into it, we'll have DMs who will teach you how to build characters, play your very first D&D game ever. 01:41:19.62 KC um Reaper has sponsored a paint and take, so we will have minis for people to paint and take with them, so that'll be super cool. um We'll have panels run by all of our great friends that we love and care for. Kurt, you're running a panel, aren't you? 01:41:34.25 Kurt Crenwelge ah Yes, I think I'm waiting on some details, ah but it ah it could either be a live recording episode like we did last time or or maybe you know what I'll actually do something specific that's like talk about NPC characters and like, you know, what goes into to making interesting NPCs like I try and do on this podcast. 01:41:54.03 KC Yeah, so all sorts of stuff. All that will be coming, we'll have ah where you can sign up for picking your specific D&D games and stuff soon. ah Maybe it'll be up by the time this podcast comes out. 01:42:05.28 KC We'll find out. um Yeah, that's yours job. 01:42:06.51 Jeri i'll get I'll get on that tomorrow. That's my job. but 01:42:10.91 KC So that's all FateCon. If you don't want to come to our specific convention, but you should, um but if you want to go to other conventions in DSW and still play D&D, we will be at QuakeCon. Actually, we'll be at GenCon. 01:42:24.52 KC This podcast will be coming out. right as we are driving to Gen Con. So we will be running games of speedy RPG at Gen Con, demoing our cool game that you just witnessed us playing. 01:42:36.04 KC And we will be running a second Kickstarter during that as well for a second printing of speedy RPG with new expansions. So I will leave those expansions to be a secret that you guys will find out when you go to our Kickstarter page and click on it, which all of that will be linked in all of our socials and on our website and everything. We also have speedy RPG.com where you can just buy copies of speedy RPG we already have in person unless they're all sold out well I guess they won't be yet we might sell them out at Gen Con and Quake Con but we'll find out so Gen Con last weekend of July area Quake Con the following weekend in Grapevine Texas will be running games in the TTRPG room all weekend and then Fate Con will be in September and then Anime Frontiers in December 01:43:24.16 KC where the cast of Critical Role will be, Woot Woot, we'll probably be playing games of Daggerheart and Candela Obscura, some of the Critical Role TTRPGs. We'll probably be teaching people how to play those if you're interested in learning non-D&D 5th edition. 01:43:39.05 KC But you can find more information about all those events on our website. Join our Discord. There's a link to that and at least our Instagram and probably also the website. 01:43:47.37 Jeri And also on the website. 01:43:48.90 KC Yeah, I don't understand Discord works, but you should join our Discord because that's where all the secrets get revealed. First, we tell all of our Discord people things that are happening before we post about them on social media. 01:43:55.17 Kurt Crenwelge o 01:43:59.46 KC So if you want to be up to date to sign up to DM or volunteer with us at any of these um upcoming events, you should check out our Discord and sign up to do all those things because we are all about bringing D&D to the public and giving all of our friends the ability to go to conventions for free because you get to play D&D with strangers and then go to a convention because that's super fun. 01:44:21.48 KC Am I forgetting anything, Gary? 01:44:21.85 Jeri You also get to see pictures of our dogs and cats if you go on our Discord, because we post a lot of cat pictures on our Discord. If you like cats, go to our Discord. 01:44:30.45 KC We do. Important stuff. 01:44:33.71 Jeri I don't think you're forgetting anything. 01:44:34.83 KC You can also follow us each personally on Instagram and stuff. 01:44:35.05 Jeri I think that's... personally... 01:44:38.76 KC um Mine is Kyrie Celeste and hers is LilJerBear47 because we are also full-time cosplayers. So if you want to see more than just photos of us as Asha and Mynira, we have lots of D&D and non-D&D cosplays. 01:44:53.79 KC Like I'm currently working on cosplays for Gen Con, which you will see 01:44:57.71 Jeri We went thrifting today to buy stuff for Cosplays for Gen Con. 01:45:01.10 KC Yeah. So we will be at hopefully all of your future events in DFW running D&D in the near future. We are trying to take over the world and we're doing it little by little. 01:45:15.14 Kurt Crenwelge There we go. Fantastic. So, ah yeah, Casey, Jerry, thank you so much for coming back on the podcast. I love being able to work with you all and participate and help to, you know, do do help to do D&D things in the community in our local area to build it up. 01:45:32.64 Kurt Crenwelge um So yeah, you know wishing you well, hoping you're having a safe drive and you know ah lots of energy for for you all as you're you know diving headfirst at all these various conventions and things that you're participating with. 01:45:46.45 Kurt Crenwelge um So may may your ah Kickstarters be funded, ah may your sales be great, may your coffees be strong, and may you get ah lots of water drinking and and good night's rest as well. 01:46:00.74 KC We can only hope. 01:46:02.76 Kurt Crenwelge So thank you so much.
