And in criminal news this week, we have a follow-up to the mail theft stories that I had covered a while back. This story is entitled. Fake mailman faces federal charges for stealing mail in Ann Arbor. [00:09:32] It's out of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Of course, the article says a us postal service worker arrested while picking up mail from an Anarbor mail collection box was not a real letter carrier. Despite the uniform he was wearing, according to federal investor. The suspect was arraigned Wednesday, March 23rd in us district court, Eastern district of Michigan on two federal felony charges for stealing mail and impersonating a letter carrier. [00:09:57] According to court records, he is accused of engaging in a conspiracy to steal mail in Anarbor, specifically targeting checks that were being deposited into USBs collection boxes for delivery. Then altering the checks to be paid out to him instead of the intended. According to a federal complaint submitted by the U S postal inspector. [00:10:19] The USPSA inspector began investigating the suspected mail theft in 2019 regarding checks being stolen from the mail stream in Ann Arbor area, then altered and fortunately negotiated at various financial institutions. They suspected whoever was taking this mail had a key to the targeted collection boxes. [00:10:40] So at 10:45 AM, Monday, March 20. Postal inspectors watching several collection boxes that had been targeted previously spotted a man dressed in a letter carrier uniform appearing to take mail out of one of the boxes. The suspect was first seen reaching and looking through the mail inside the collection box at airport Boulevard, rifling through the mail and taking a long time to collect the mail, instead of simply pulling the mail tub out of the box, like any layer carrier would normally. [00:11:08] He was then seen again, doing the same thing at another nearby collection box before crossing the street and ignoring another box, which would have been on the same collection route after confirming with the Anarbor post office that the carrier for the assigned route had not yet left the office investigators intervened. [00:11:27] And with the assistance from Anna rhe police department, detective confronted the. He ran from the officer into a wooded area behind Zippy's carwash before eventually surrendering police searched him, found he had 62 pieces of suspected stolen mail and seized his USBs clothing consisting of a letter carrier satchel pants, shirt, jacket, and stocking cap. [00:11:53] The suspect is currently free on a $10,000 bond. So it looks like this guy not only managed to a. Steal a letter carrier is key, but also uniform. So that has earned him two felony charges, federal felony charges for stealing the mail and for impersonating a letter carrier. So we know from previous articles, I've read that this is, this is big business. [00:12:19] So I wonder how many more of these letter thieves are using similar tactics. Using the post office uniforms, as well as the key so that they attract as little attention as possible. All right, moving on to sales. She's going to go through these real quick.
