Nick Clason (00:00.778) Well good morning, everyone. Here I am with the one and only Greg Pert. Greg, how we doing this morning? Greg Peart (00:08.665) Doing great. How about you? Nick Clason (00:10.264) Good man. How's the coffee? Is it strong? Greg Peart (00:13.503) it is perfect. this is my first cup, so I've got my MCT oil and everything else in there, getting my brain started. Nick Clason (00:15.382) Okay. Same here. Nick Clason (00:23.062) Now what the those of you who are listeners might not know is that Greg's one of my youth volunteers and at summer camp my grinder broke and I had to go find Greg in his bed as he was trying to sleep because I knew he had one. No, you were not. You were awake. and then I thought I broke yours. I was like, man, I'm having the worst grinder luck of my life. but alas I did not. Greg Peart (00:38.083) I was asleep. Yes I was. Greg Peart (00:50.479) Yeah, but you just ran out of my battery, so I couldn't use it the next morning. So Nick Clason (00:54.688) Yeah, my bad. My bad. But the you got coffee this morning, you used all the batteries. So Greg is like I said, Greg's a leader in my ministry, but Greg has also developed this AI that we actually went over in last episode. You can go check that out, link down below. but Greg, take us on a little bit of a journey. Like, where did this come from? Where like what was the need that you saw and that you were trying to solve by creating it? Greg Peart (01:01.603) Yes. Nick Clason (01:23.386) and then how did you kinda like start dabbling in it and and for Ask Phil to become what it is today? Greg Peart (01:29.571) Right. Well, about twenty years ago, I was on a business trip and I was sitting in a hotel room and just thinking about the individuals that were inside the hotel and how they could be hurting, feeling isolated, you know, just struggling on, you know, what what their next step was for a career or for, you know, just that night. And I was thinking to myself, I'm like, how cool would that be if you we could figure out some way to Find these individuals and, you know, just share some truth with them. And so, you know, I mean I twenty years ago it was a phone call, you know, sitting, you know, maybe a phone number sitting inside of Gideon's Bible or whatever it might be. but you know, you you go out to today and you know, you're sitting here thinking to yourself, it's like, you know, we've got we've got AI. So my my buddy introduced it to me almost two years ago now. And I was thinking, man, this is crazy. There's no way I'm putting the Bible and and you know, discipleship materials and things like that into an AI and and letting it, you know, do do what it needs to do. I I was a little afraid of it. I was afraid of AI in general. but you know, that's where it all started. Nick Clason (02:41.677) Mm. Nick Clason (02:46.112) Okay. So you so then tell people like what exactly it is that you like the back end stuff, right? 'Cause like there's a a thousand AI options right now. Every time we turn around, like AI is being, you know, sold to us through Microsoft or Gemini or Chat or Claude, right? So what separates yours? 'cause you can you can go onto chat and you can ask it Bible questions, you can ask it theology questions. Greg Peart (02:58.201) Right. Greg Peart (03:03.931) Yes. Nick Clason (03:14.912) What did you do to make it a little bit more reputable or make it a little bit more, you know, reliable on the on the Bible end? Greg Peart (03:24.229) Yeah, I actually, you know, made sure that there was discipleship materials in the back. So, you know, I've I've actually, you know, helped mentor people at a university here in the Dallas area. And we use this material, you know, it was a one on one discipleship program. And so that's how I actually started was using it. and I was able to create a purpose, a brain and everything else. And so it can go find whatever it needs to and it will actually bring it back through Nick Clason (03:43.309) Mm. Greg Peart (03:52.56) the brain that was created, you know, that brain, you know, I'm I'm really trying to make sure that it stays around the the idea of, you know, going through the fruit of the spirit, you know, talking like, you know, you're Philip on the road, talking to the eunuch, coming, you know, it pops in, it, you know, talks about truth. And, you know, when God's done with Philip, he disappears and goes somewhere else. I I think that's a great example of AI in general. Nick Clason (04:22.092) Which that that's where the name came from, right? So Phil is like Philip the the in that whole story with like the Ethiopian eunuch, right? Greg Peart (04:22.38) I've got a Go ahead. Absolutely, yes, yeah. So it it did. So Greg Peart (04:32.985) Right, yeah, 'cause I mean you you think about it. I mean here here Philip is just going, All right, God, what do you want to use me for? And he says, I need you to go out to this random road and you're gonna find this guy, you're gonna go talk to him, and you know, just and the the eunuch's like, Hey, I'm I'm reading this scripture, I have no idea what's going on with it and you know, he explained it with with truth, you know, backing it up and baptized him and literally I got you know, you know, just you know sent o sent away. I mean, just taken up and and disappeared. So I mean, you think you think about you think about AI in general, it's like, man, I mean, that's exactly what it's doing. And so, you know, and and really, you know, the the the main thing is is going after, you know, anybody that's unchurched, you know, an individual that you know has questions but doesn't really want to talk to any of us may go to chat and you know Nick Clason (05:04.492) Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Which Nick Clason (05:14.446) Mm. Greg Peart (05:32.1) Maybe asking what's the meaning of life? and and chat could come up with seven different things. And, you know, Phil will actually go straight to you know, Psalms 139 and just tell you, you know, what life is all about. you know, there's the underchurched individual, the the person that's been in church all their life, and but they don't know where, you know, what, you know, fall for all sin and fall short of glory of God. They don't know what where that verse came from, so they can go find it. Nick Clason (05:45.347) Yeah. Greg Peart (05:59.394) like all my sixth graders, I you know, I challenge them. It's they can't even find a a verse in the Bible, you know. They don't even know the books of the Bible yet. So so which I'm working on, Nick. So don't don't blame me for that one. But you know, the under church is the individual that doesn't really they don't want to talk to us because you know, we may make them feel like they're idiots. you know. and then there's the unhappily church, you know, your pastor says something and they they're questioning about it. I will not say what you know Nick Clason (06:10.04) Thank you. Thank you. Nope, not. Nick Clason (06:18.573) Mm-hmm. Greg Peart (06:28.025) I will d you know, deny that I actually have used it during a service to, you know, when pastor would say something and I would go look it up and say, what, you know, what is that what what really is going on there? But then there's the Uber church. you know, I I've actually used it. you know, I'll take our Sunday school lesson. it was I think we were studying Hagar and Ishmael, and I had a I had a question of, you know, I've always thought that, you know, Ishmael was the the father of you know, the Muslim faith. Nick Clason (06:39.65) Hm. Nick Clason (06:57.814) Mm. Greg Peart (06:57.919) And you know, I was able to use it and it literally asked me the question. It goes, So you know, what are you what are you doing with this information? It's like, Well I'm about to go teach my sixth graders and it literally wrote me a lesson right then and there for sixth graders. And I'm like, you know, that that's just it was fun. So Nick Clason (07:12.172) Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And like you said, like it can be a a tool, you know. So it the point is it can be used for all different like levels of faith. but what I like about it is like I'm actually preaching on Sunday, like in our main church, and I was using it yesterday to like ask some some research based questions, you know. Like, I don't have Logos. maybe I should, but like I don't feel like I need it. 'Cause I got Phil. so I I can use it for that. And you know, like I'm not I'm not having it write my whole sermon. So like let's let's just get that off the table. But when I have questions about like the different Greek words in First Timothy three as it pertains to like overseer deacon and like the women that are referenced in the passage, like what are those words? Where else are they used throughout scripture? And it's able to to give me those along with like ref reputable. references and it's like it's not incorrect, which is one of the biggest, you know, like things I've seen in like youth pastor Facebook groups is like Chat GPT can give you a Bible reference, but it's just straight up wrong. You know? So it it's nice to have this as something that you know and can rely that like it was built with a integrity B by a Christian and it was like the brains of it was fed with like you said like Greg Peart (08:25.276) Yeah. Nick Clason (08:40.566) reputable discipleship material and it's like being driven back to scripture, which is what we're all, you know, we're all going for. So anything else on just like how it came to be or like as you were building it, like things that you thought were interesting or that you learned? Greg Peart (08:48.731) Yeah. Greg Peart (08:56.955) But yeah, one of the one of the things that you know you were saying it about the reputable part of it. anytime that I build out an AI, you know, from here on out, I'm going to do a an alignment test. You know, so so it just, you know, we haven't talked about this yet, but we have I have built this out for our church and you know, it it's not it's not completely rolled out yet. But you know, when when it comes down to it, I want to make sure that it's is doctrinally correct, it can answer the hard questions, it it doesn't go political on me, you know, and it just doesn't hallucinate. you know, and and honestly, you know, I'm I'm I'm of the of the type it's like even with Phil, hey, if it says something you don't like, challenge it, you know, yell back at it and go, Hey, that's not true. And you know, I that I don't see it that way. Nick Clason (09:30.072) Yeah. Hmm. Nick Clason (09:43.896) Hmm. Greg Peart (09:49.942) and I I think anybody anybody that uses AI at any point should definitely push back. you know, unfortunately with with chat and you know, Claude and other places, it's like, my bad, you know. Well well Phil, you know, will actually say, well, let's look up the the real truth and and go through it that way. But you know, and I think that you know something to r you know, remember is that, you know, it's it's immediate access to biblical truth like you were talking about. It's you know private, shame free. So, you know, you look at your students. Nick Clason (09:55.331) Mm. Nick Clason (10:07.726) Mm. Greg Peart (10:18.827) And you know, you think about them, it's like this is a great place. if I if I read you some of the questions that are coming in at midnight, I would be embarrassed to read them online. you know, and I have no idea who's asking these questions, but I do know what the questions are because if it comes from a I I know what website it comes from. So if if you know an individual decides to embed Phil onto their youth website or their church's website, I know exactly which website it came from. So I can say, Hey Nick, you know. Nick Clason (10:26.018) Yeah. Greg Peart (10:47.333) People are really struggling with a you know XYZ. maybe it's not a topic we should think about and and and go through. you know, but it's completely private. you know, have no idea who's asking these questions. but it they they're good questions and they're hard questions. And they're questions that, you know, somebody would probably not ask you or me, Nick. so you know, bridges the digital curiosity to, you know, a genuine community. I am working on getting it to where if an individual doesn't have a church. Nick Clason (11:06.711) Yeah. Greg Peart (11:17.337) be able to you know point them to a church. the more churches that I yeah, the more churches I get involved, I can actually point straight to their AI. You know, and then I definitely want to make sure that you know it it points to multiplication through mentoring and discipleship. You know, the the fact is is that you know you've got you know it it it I think it's about I think three or four interactions, it will encourage you to go find somebody. Nick Clason (11:19.916) Yeah, which is fantastic. Mm. Nick Clason (11:35.16) Mm-hmm. Greg Peart (11:46.81) go talk to. And and I've I've seen it, I've seen it, you know, basically be pretty blatant with an individual because the guy keeps on coming back. He's arguing with the AI and it's like, dude, quit arguing with me. Go talk to somebody. And so, you know, it's just a big deal. But you know, I mean I I could see this in hotel rooms, you know, just anywhere at any time. you know, it does have Phil has a a filter where you can choose what Bible version you want to use. Nick Clason (11:58.948) Yeah. That's cool. Mm. Greg Peart (12:17.115) and l what language you want to see it in. and and for those individuals, we we have a an older guy that helps in our our youth and he said he can't read it. So I made it so you could actually, you know, increase the text size. and and and you can actually go through and decide how long you want the answer to be. So but yeah so and I I and I think you said it, Nick, and and I agree with you is that Nick Clason (12:19.15) Mm. Nick Clason (12:31.32) Hey. Nick Clason (12:40.3) Okay. Greg Peart (12:46.479) This is a tool. It's not it it's not there to take the place of other people. It's not the Holy Spirit. It's not a pastor. If if you if there is something that it it challenges you on, you want to go talk to somebody. you know, and I I I think the one of the big things is that how cool would it be if you as a youth worker were sitting across the the table from somebody and you know they're struggling with whatever it might be. You go ask Bill, you know, hey, what what is it you're struggling with? and and you let it give an answer. And what's really cool is you can actually create a devotional or a Bible study at that point inside of Phil. there is that option. And you know, instead of going, hey, you know, I understand that you are struggling with with porn, I mean I'm just gonna say it. I know for me Nick Clason (13:30.636) Yeah. Yeah. Nick Clason (13:40.867) Right. Greg Peart (13:45.254) What I usually do is go, hey, let's go get every man's battle and let's start working through it next week. Well, I gotta go get the book. I gotta get them to read it and I gotta read it and I gotta prepare for it. And so, you know, now you've got a call to action with Phil of just creating a a quick devotion that's about what you want it to be. Nick Clason (13:48.126) right. Nick Clason (13:53.772) Yep. Yeah. Yep. Nick Clason (14:04.92) That's great. So there are obviously multiple well, not obviously, but there are gonna be, and we're gonna talk about this here in just second, multiple different ways that like you as a listener or youth worker can explore this thing. So like for I would say for tier one evangelical theological issues, like If you are a youth worker anywhere around the country, like go test it out, go use it. Like at a minimum, you go, you go use it. Like ask it questions. a lot like do your own like alignment tests. Like ask it, ask it the ones that that matter to you. we're in like a Southern Baptist context, so like that's where that's where Greg built it for our church through that like theological lens. and obviously Southern Baptists and maybe some other denominations don't always align on what I would say tier two issues. Greg Peart (14:33.339) Please. Nick Clason (14:57.698) which is where as Greg had mentioned before, and I'm gonna let him talk about this here in just second, like he rolled this out and built this out with like all of our like position papers and like literature and doctrinal statements. Like that's what informed and fed the backside the brain of this AI for our church. But moving forward, Greg has the ability to like roll that out for other churches coming at it from their perspective, your perspective. So anyone can use it. Like link down below. I'll also include like the we have like a QR code that we've used. Like you gave it to us and then we printed it on like a sticker. So I'll include the art for that. If like you check it out, like it, go grab it, like check out the description below. maybe make a sticker, pass it out to students in your context. That's how we've kind of communicated to our our teenagers. It's all web-based. There's no like app for it. But can you talk a little bit about like what it could look like if a church down the road wanted to roll this out the way that our church has has tried to roll this out or is is planning to in the in a little bit here roll this out. Like what can you do? What are the services? Like and and how can they get in touch with you if they did want to kind of explore that? Greg Peart (16:14.021) Yeah. Well, first of all, the gospel is free. So I I I you know, I want to make sure you knew that, Nick. but you know, that's why askfill.ai is I mean it it's it's free. I I you know, there are other apps out there. you know, I've I've I've looked at and it's like after seven questions, all of a sudden it starts going, Hey, you gotta pay me seven bucks a month, you know, ten bucks a month. okay, by the way, yeah, you know, and so Nick Clason (16:18.305) Yeah. Nick Clason (16:23.075) Yeah. Nick Clason (16:37.228) Right. Shout out shout out to Claude, yeah. Greg Peart (16:44.111) You know, it's free. I I do not want to charge for the the outward facing askphil.ai to anybody at all. Now, what that means is you know I need partners to to help make sure that it stays, you know, live and going. So the way this works is, you know, if you want to put a link on your website, go right ahead. you know, it will it will just click over to ask Phil. If you want to embed it in your website, you know, that that's gonna be the tier one, you know, you know, tier zero is just it's free. Tier one would be, you know, hey, I'll give you an embed code that you can put in. you can actually have a little you know ID and Christ, you know, chat bot, you know, sticker at the bottom right-hand corner, or you can put it onto a website itself, you know, and and have a you know, a chat window. the second one would be I can actually brand it to this would be tier two. Nick Clason (17:12.259) Yeah. Nick Clason (17:19.586) Yeah, go click it, yeah. Greg Peart (17:41.574) I'll brand it to your church. so it will not say ID in Christ, it will say, you know, for us it's the hex C, you know, down at the bottom right hand corner, or you know, whatever it might be, and it will be branded to your church when it would when it show up. the tier three is the top, top level. And that is like Nick was saying, I put your doctrinal, you know, you know, I know for us it's the Southern Baptist you know, mission that's in there. Nick Clason (18:08.62) Yeah. Greg Peart (18:09.889) I I'll put your sermons in in there, I'll put their pastor's sermons, any discipleship books they've written, any books they've written, any documents that are out there, Sunday school lessons, whatever it might be that needs to be put in there. And the way that works is there is a library in the background, and that library is what holds all of the documents that are being used when it's bringing up. Now, just to be clear, the number one thing it uses always is the Bible. you know, I I honestly want to make a hundred percent sure everybody understands that this is not about books, this is not about, you know, doctrinal statements, it's not about, you know, what I've put in there as the brain. This is about the fact that the Bible is the foundation of everything that we believe in. And, you know, that goes off of a there's there is a faith definition inside of this everywhere you go, and that is faith is living as though the Bible is true regardless of your circumstances, emotions, or cultural trends. Nick Clason (18:55.15) Mm. Greg Peart (19:08.609) And and what it does a lot of times when you actually create a Bible study or devotion, it will it will ask the faith question of if you were living as though whatever it is you're researching is true, how would you be living? And so, you know, th that's you know, as far as Phil is concerned, that's the like that's the crux of it all is that, hey, faith faith is believing the Bible's true, regardless of anything else around you. And how would you be living if you were living as though that were true? Nick Clason (19:30.574) Mm. Nick Clason (19:35.725) Yeah, that's good. So if now like list if you're a youth pastor I know, right? if you're that's that's the mark of a good interviewer, Greg. If you're a g if you're youth pastor and you're listening, like Greg said, you can go you can go try the link down below right now. Like there's absolutely nothing like stopping you. There's no paywall, there's no gatekeeping, right? Greg Peart (19:40.261) Get me all fired up, Nick. You know? Dude. Nick Clason (19:59.721) And you can use that as far as you desire and prefer. And like I'm just gonna let you know and shoot so straight. If I were you, that's what I would do. Like I would just go spam the free usage of it. That's what we all as youth workers do. Like we go for the best deal and it's whatever's free is usually the best deal. but if you use it and you don't love its like theological perspective, perhaps, or Greg Peart (20:09.573) Right. Nick Clason (20:25.374) As Greg said, if you begin to use it and you love it and you want to roll it out for the greater congregation and get rid of some of like the fill and ID in Christ branding and have your own, that's where I would then like fold in an executive pastor, a senior pastor to have some of these conversations because it is gonna need to be bought in at like a a greater, you know, higher level church initiative or let's just be honest, youth worker, one that's above your pay grade, which is fine. You don't want You don't want to make those pay grade decisions. But if if someone were in that camp, Greg, like tier one, two or three wanting to embed it or brand it or, you know, feed it, you know, how what like is how how do we want them to get in touch with you? Like you want me to just put like a contact form down below and I can funnel them your way, or do you have something like just reach out, have a conversation is kind of kind of where it's at right now. It's still pretty in its infancy, right? Greg Peart (21:22.789) Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I mean we I I get every single month we're probably getting five to five hundred to a thousand questions right now. And so obviously, you know, just looking for that that moment of time where it's like I know that you know more individuals will be getting into it. But anyway, yeah, just if you want, go to info at idnchrist dot org. Info at idnchrist.org. you can email me there. Nick Clason (21:31.886) Yeah, it's great. Nick Clason (21:41.806) That's great. Greg Peart (21:52.168) you know, and you know, I'll make sure that I get back to you as soon as possible. you know, I would love to give out my phone number, but I, you know, don't really want to do that on a podcast unless you think it's okay there, Nick. I I really don't care. but so what giving it out or not? Nick Clason (21:52.366) Perfect. Nick Clason (22:05.344) No, you're good. That'll work. Nick Clason (22:11.606) No, I said the I think the email's great. We'll just we'll go with the email. We'll do that. Greg Peart (22:13.967) Okay, cool. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, just did yeah, definitely do that. if you want a little bit more about the story, when as soon as you open up askphil dotai, it will have a it has a landing page and explains a little bit about what we what we talked through. So when you do talk to, you know, the the powers to be or a deacon or one of your youth leaders, you can definitely read through that. you know, I I am you know what, for the past four and a half, five years, I've just been praying God Nick Clason (22:28.536) Yeah. Greg Peart (22:43.013) You know, use my nerdiness however you can. And you know, just I'm I'm an open vessel, man. And I studied through John and you know, it's just like, you know, I mean, just all the all the great things that he did. And then I studied through Revelation a couple of years ago and I'm like, guys, there's no time like now. You know, we've gotta be bold, we gotta be you know, we gotta be f you know, forward, and we've gotta get we gotta get the truth out there and we gotta keep it out there. and this is Nick Clason (23:01.806) Mm. Greg Peart (23:12.355) I I I really think this is one good way to do it. Nick Clason (23:14.762) Absolutely. Yeah, for sure. And like I said, I if I'm not on here promoting it, I'm definitely a user, right? I as evidenced by yesterday's questions about overseers and deacons. So it helps me all the time. You know, helps me all the time. So definitely go check it out if you're a youth pastor. great if I fortunately or unfortunately, I'm not sure which one it is. get the benefit of Greg being one of my youth leaders. So he comes every week to tell me what's going on with Phil and dude, I got this question. This is crazy and you should think about this. And it's it's been great. It's been fun. And so I just wanted to share your like passion and your this product, frankly, with my my little audience here in this corner of the internet. So here you guys go. Greg Peart (23:57.883) Thank you. Nick Clason (24:06.802) reach out. Like at the end of the day, one of the things you learn about Greg is like he really does like he's right. Like he really does just want to like help and serve. Like I he's not trying to get rich. He's not trying to like he's just he found this thing. It's actually very like genuinely helpful. And so we're not on here trying to like sell you anything. We're just trying to get the word out. So go go test it. Go check it out. Greg Peart (24:28.165) Well I well no, Nick, we are trying to sell one thing and that's the gospel, dude. Yeah, I mean we need we need people to understand the truth, man. So anyway, that's the only thing we're selling. And it's free. Nick Clason (24:32.663) Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nick Clason (24:36.684) Yeah, which was the free which was which was the free tier, by the way. The free tier. So good news for you as youth workers, free tier available. So Greg, anything else before we sign off? Greg Peart (24:49.487) No, I I appreciate everybody that's out there. I I I can't even tell you how much I appreciate all that you guys do. I know you sacrifice a lot of time and a lot of emotion, a lot of your spirit and sometimes physically. and you know, it's just it means a lot, you know.
